Battle of the Superphones – T-mobile G1 Vs Blackberry Storm
Battle of the Superphones – T-mobile G1 Vs Blackberry Storm
Two touchscreen heavyweights are lining up to go to war soon. Both of them are billed as the best of the best, and both are unique mobile phones in their own way. So let’s take a look at which will win: T-Mobile G1 or Blackberry Storm.
T-Mobile G1 – the world’s first Google Android mobile phone
Announced at the start of October, the T-Mobile G1 marks the coming of a brand new operating system: Google Android. No other mobile phones have ever used that system before, so it’s fair to say it’s generating quite a lot of interest. Mind you, that’s hardly surprising, since the T-Mobile G1 is a full touchscreen mobile phone, that quite blatantly seems to be out to steal the iPhone’s thunder. And you know what? It succeeds, and makes for a far more appealing mobile phone! The new Android interface in the T-mobile G1 is slick, sexy and fast, making it an absolute joy to use, and with extra features like 3 megapixel camera, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, super fast internet access up to 7.2Mbps, and built-in GPS, the T-Mobile G1 really is an enticing prospect for anyone who loves touchscreen mobile phones.
Blackberry Storm – all new power at your fingertips
Meanwhile, from developer RIM, we have another touchscreen mobile phone, and while the T-Mobile G1 may have a new operating system to boast about, the new Blackberry Storm has an entirely new type of touchscreen. Basically, when you press down on the screen in the Blackberry Storm, it moves ever so slightly, and clicks. The effect is unbelievable; put simply, typing out an email on the Blackberry Storm’s virtual onscreen keyboard, feels just like you’re using a physical keypad with real buttons! how many other mobile phones can you say that about?! In terms of extra features, the Black Storm is no slouch, either, with its camera, internet and GPS specs pretty similar to those on the T-Mobile G1.
But which is the mobile phone you should buy? When you get right down to it, which one is better?
T-Mobile G1 vs Blackberry Storm – which should YOU buy?
Whilst the similarities between the T-Mobile G1 and the Blackberry Storm are there, these two mobile phones are nothing like each other. Each has different software features and so on, but it’ll come down to a case of which one feels the nicest to use. However, we need to address the fact that the T-Mobile G1 gives you access to loads of applications and music via their online Marketplace, and the Amazon MP3 Store. So, in terms of content, the T-Mobile G1 would seem to be the better bet. However… if you’re talking about which of these mobile phones is the nicest to use, and looks the best, and which one you’ll enjoy using more, then there can only be one clear winner. The Blackberry Storm is, quite frankly, one of the single nicest mobile phones ever made. The T-Mobile G1 may let you fill it with software and music, but you can still get software for the Blackberry Storm, and it’s physically a far, FAR nicer mobile phone. Without a doubt, that’s the baby I’d go for!

Mini Edition T-Mobile Pulse is Latest Android Phone
Mini Edition T-Mobile Pulse is Latest Android Phone
The new T-Mobile Pulse Mini is the latest phone from the manufacturer to feature the Android operating system, this new touch screen handset is also the cheapest phone available on the network with the latest Android 2.1 OS pre-installed.
The Pulse Mini offers 3.5G support for super fast internet access on the go, there is also a 3.2 mega pixel camera with an LED flash for capturing quality pictures and video and built-in GPS for satellite navigation and route planning as well as a handy 2GB memory card included in the packaging.
Android v2.1 is the latest edition of the operating system and for a phone to come in at under £100 featuring this advanced software is a real market breakthrough, the T-Mobile Pule Mini grants access to the Android Market where there are now thousands of games and applications to download for free to customize this new mini handset.
Finished in a matt black colour scheme with a main navigational button alongside start and end call buttons on the front of the phone the new Pulse mini offers a pretty minimalistic design and measuring just 106 x 57 x 14mm will slip nicely into most trouser and jacket pockets.
The handset is actually manufactured for T-Mobile by the Chinese firm Huawei and will also be available in a second white colour scheme sometime soon, the main touch screen is a large 2.8 inch resistive display which works well with the Android software.
There is very little direct competition at this price level for Android powered phones, the closest models are the HTC Tattoo, HTC Hero, LG GW620, Samsung Galaxy Portal and the forthcoming Vodafone 845 which may well trump the Pulse Mini on price to become the cheapest available.
The T-Mobile Pulse Mini has been released as a Pay As You Go mobile phone with no ongoing line rental or long term commitments, users can simply top up their calling credit as it runs down by either buying vouchers, over the phone or online.
The original Pulse model is still available with a slightly larger 3.5 inch touch screen, however it uses the same 3.2 mega pixel camera and offers a 2.5mm audio jack as opposed to the 3.5mm of the new Pulse Mini which will take standard headphones.
It is more than likely that this latest T-Mobile device will be launched on pay monthly contract deals although there is no confirmed date as yet.

Next Generation Touchscreen Mobile Phones – T-mobile G1 Vs Blackberry Storm
Next Generation Touchscreen Mobile Phones – T-mobile G1 Vs Blackberry Storm
Touchscreen mobile phones have also been knocking about, but they’ve never previously taken on the world-beating significance they’ve attained nowadays. Well, now, there are two totally unique mobile phones vying for your attention: the T-Mobile G1 and the Blackberry Storm.
T-Mobile G1 – a new, Android life form
For many months, one of the biggest news stories in the world of mobile phones has been the development of a brand new operating system: Google Android. Anticipation was high for the first mobile phone to come built around it, and that handset is the T-Mobile G1, quite literally the first of a new breed of mobile phones. Featuring Android, the T-Mobile G1 comes in a sleek body with a huge touchscreen that slides to one side, revealing a full QWERTY keyboard. Also included is a 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA internet access, and GPS. The cool thing about the T-Mobile G1, though, is the list of cool extras you get thanks to Google Android. Features like direct access to the Amazon MP3 Store and the Android Marketplace (for downloading software to your T-Mobile G1) are among the coolest things seen on ANY mobile phones!
Blackberry Storm – the perfect storm?
Blackberry mobile phones have always had a reputation for one massive feature: email. However, as of 2008, they’re going to be famous for something else. Y’see, in the Blackberry Storm, they’ve made something unique. It truly is a one of a kind mobile phone, with a clickable, MOVING screen. That’s right, when you press on the screen on the Blackberry Storm, it actually moves slightly into the body of the phone, meaning it feels like a real button, when you press on it. No other mobile phones can claim that feature, and it means that typing messages on the Blackberry Storm’s virtual keyboard feels exactly like a REAL keyboard. It’s truly a unique innovation, and it means that for emails on the Blackberry Storm (the real reason for any Blackberry’s existence), it feels simply superb. Other features include a 3 megapixel camera, HSDPA internet and GPS.
T-Mobile G1 vs Blackberry Storm – which one should YOU buy?
So, in this battle of innovation, which do you go for? The unique software of the T-Mobile G1 or the unique screen of the Blackberry Storm? Well, there are pros and cons to both mobile phones: the T-Mobile G1’s got a physical QWERTY keyboard, and the extra features that come with having Google Android, but it has the drawback of being a whole new operating system, and therefore, it’s still working out a lot of bugs from its systems. Meanwhile, the Blackberry Storm has that simply incredible screen, Blackberry email access, and is the better looking of the two mobile phones. So, in the end, it’s going to come down to personal choice, but being as objective as I can, I feel the Blackberry Storm is a smarter purchase than the T-Mobile G1.
Lg Intouch Max Aka Lg Gw620 T-Mobile Android Phone
T-Mobile have now launched the first Android phone manufactured by LG, the new LG GW620 is part of the InTouch series and known as the LG InTouch Max, this new model joins the range which also includes the KS360, GW300 and more recent and closely related LG GW520.
LG are looking to bring the Android operating system to the masses with their new budget priced LG GW620, this new phone is now the cheapest Android phone on the market and offers some great features found in many of the more expensive handsets. To start with the LG GW620 incorporates a very useful slide out Qwerty keyboard for quick and easy text input when updating social network profiles, texting and emailing, for quick messages and menu navigation this latest LG phone also offers a 3.0 inch touch screen TFT display.
Add to this a good quality 5.0 mega pixel camera with autofocus, face detection and a dual LED flash and you can soon see what great value for money the LG GW620 proves to be, these features are sometimes standard on some of the most expensive models. Making this first Android phone even more attractive is the inclusione of WiFi support, Bluetooth, HSDPA and 3G+ capabilities plus an expandable memory of up to 32GB with MicroSD cards.
All of this in a handset that is free on £20 per month line rental tariffs on T-Mobile! Joining the LG GW620 on the same release day is a new Android offering from Samsung, this also is set to open up the Android phone market to those on a tight budget as this too can be ordered on T-Mobile’s £20 tariffs for free.
The Samsung Galaxy Spica is the little brother to the original Samsung Android phone – the Samsung Galaxy and is also known as the Galaxy Lite as well as its rebranded name on T-Mobile as the Samsung Galaxy Portal.
Although no slide out Qwerty keyboard is available the Samsung Spica does include a good sized 3.2 inch touch sensitive screen alongside a 3.2 mega pixel camera, this has kept the dimensions of the phone down to create a slim and sleek handset for the Android market. The new LG GW620 and Samsung Galaxy Spica are both T-Mobile exclusive launches meaning they will only be available on T-Mobile’s pay monthly tariffs for the first month of their release, after this time has passed it is widely expected that these two new phone will be quickly picked up by Orange as well as other network operators.
Although two fo the cheapest Android phones on the market, the LG GW620 and Samsung Spica do have competition from more expensive models, in particular is the recently released Motorola Milestone that also offers a slide out keyboard, others include the Acer Liquid, HTC Hero, T-Mobile G2 Touch and latest Nexus One Google phone as well as the forthcoming Sony Ericsson Xperia X10.
Samsung Galaxy Portal is T-Mobile Name for Samsung Galaxy Spica
The new Samsung i5700 just keeps clocking up even more new model names, referred to mostly as the Samsung Galaxy Spica this latest Android phone has now been released on T-Mobile and renamed the Samsung Galaxy Portal.
This new touch screen device can also be found by searching for Samsung Galaxy Lite which simply further compounds the already confusing mobile phone market for consumers. Although the Galaxy Portal is exactly the same phone as the Spica it seems T-Mobile intended to set itself apart from other networks and retailers with their late name change.
This is not uncommon, the network re-brands many of it’s network own handsets, examples of this include the HTC Hero being named the T-Mobile G2 Touch and the HTC Diamond 2 being marketed as the T-Mobile Compact V. The Samsung Galaxy Portal has been released on exactly the same day as the new LG InTouch Max GW620, another affordable Android phone, both of these new handsets have been ‘price matched’ on their release to be free of charge on the T-Mobile Combi 20 tariff at just £20 per month.
The i5700 Galaxy Portal may not offer the slide out Qwerty keyboard or the 5.0 mega pixel camera of the LG GW620 but it does feature a fast 800MHz processor for zipping through the menus and applications. Incorporating a 3.0 mega pixel camera the Samsung Galaxy Portal also offers 3G+ connectivity and a large 3.3 inch touch screen display which is ideal for web browsing and watching media.
Other features include WiFi, HSDPA, Bluetooth, a 3.5mm audio jack for using any standard headphones and GPS which can be used with Google Maps for navigation. The Samsung i5700 Galaxy Portal was initially launched as a SIM free mobile phone back on January 12th, this is the first time that consumers have been able to take advantage of the price drop associated with a network subsidy from T-Mobile.
There are further network launches planne for this new Android handset but these will be under the better known name of the Samsung Galaxy Spica.
The range of Android phones is continuing to expand with other recent releases being the Motorola Milestone, Acer Liquid, the previously mentioned LG In Touch GW620 and the new Sony Ericsson X10 and Google Nexus One.
Accompanying these new handsets is more and more applications being ofefred through the Android Market, this is no where near on a par with the iPhone App Store but is fast gaining pace with a sudden jump of over 5000 applications in the month of December alone.

New T-Mobile Milestone – Android Powered Motorola Milestone
The second Android offering from Motorola has now been launched on its second network, the Motorola Milestone was initially released on the Orange network and offered as a SIM Free and unlocked phone but now T-Mobile has managed to secure the Milestone for UK sales.
This new launch means that there are now more than double the number of pay monthly contract tariffs available for this new Motorola Android phone, this includes deals for the Milestone free on some tariffs including the T-Mobile Combi 25 tariff which for £25 line rental per month allocates 700 minutes of calls to any network at any time (including landline calls) and unlimited inclusive text messaging every month.
Considering the Motorola Milestone is well geared for internet surfing, emailing and downloading it would be wise to opt for a tariff that includes this, the T-Mobile Combi 25 + Web n Walk package offers just that for just £5 extra per month it allows for unlimited internet access making full use of the Milestone’s web facilities. An Android 2.0 phone, the Motorola Milestone is the first to feature this upgraded opertaing system.
It makes for smooth running of applications as well as menu navigation and software support, preloaded is Google Maps for turn by turn navigation and there’s a whole host of other Google apps. available for download from the Android market. The Milestone features a 5.0 mega pixel camera with auto focus and a dual LED flash for low light photography, the main selling point of this latest Android phone though has to be the integration of a slide out Qwerty keyboard in such a slim frame, this makes for easy and quick text input when emailing, web browsing and texting.
The main competition to the Milestone currently resides with the recently released Google Nexus One which runs the next version of the Android OS, if price is important and you are on a tighter budget there are cheaper Android phones available in the form of the new LG GW620 which also offers a physical Qwerty keyboard whilst if this is not important then the Samsung Galaxy Spica, Acer Liquid or HTC Hero may suit.
There will also be further competition coming soon from the new Sony Ericsson X10 although the release date for this first Sony Ericsson handset has been postponed twice already and may not make it to market until early Q2 2010.
The Motorola Milestone will suit anyone who enjoys the latest mobile technology, a solid feeling phone and handy Qwerty keypad – this is a powerful handset but compact in size that will suit most pockets.
