Size Does Matter – When Choosing A Banner Format!
Size Does Matter – When Choosing A Banner Format!
Banners aren’t as effective as they once were. But you should still use banner ads as a part of your advertising mix.
Banners can help increase brand awareness. At the same time, a small percent of viewers will click on your banner to visit your website increasing your traffic.
— Bigger is better.
A research shows that bigger banner ads perform better. As a banner increases in size, so does the probability viewers will click: It’s impossible for them to miss your banner!
Not surprisingly, studies show that skyscrapers perform better than 468×60 banners in terms of both branding and CTR. Readers easily ignore small banners.
— Less is more.
However, (a) the sites on which you want to advertise generally impose size limitations and (b) the quality of your ad is more important than the size of your banner.
Typical banner sizes: 468×60 banner, 234×60 half size banner, 125×125 square, 120×60 button, 120×240 vertical banner, 120 x 600 and 160 x 600 skyscraper, 728×90 leader board and many more.
— Looking for alternatives.
PopAdsOnline.com was one of the first to pioneer the use of Big-Banner Ads, placing them on top of a page. Readers could simply not miss them. Practically the banner takes almost all the space.
— See an example here: http://www.cnetcs.com/bb/bigbanner.htm
Although this is so called ‘in your face advertising’ it seems to have better results than traditional banners.
— What should you keep in mind when designing a banner?
1. Always include your logo.
2. Use larger-size banners because they are more effective.
3. If branding is an objective, it’s best to keep your banner simple
4. The more times people see an ad, the more likely it is to click on it.
5. Make your banner fast loading.
6. Include good ad copy in your banner.
7. Grab the attention.
8. Include a call to action like click here. Yes, it will make a difference!
9.Remember K.I.S.S. – Keep It Simple Stupid.
10. And don’t forget: Test, test and test again!

Size Up Your Social Media Commitment
Size Up Your Social Media Commitment
Thereâs definitely a lot of talk around social media marketing. If you look in some circles, it seems âeveryone is doing it.â But, not everyone is â yet â nor should everyone be active in it.
Like any other marketing or business aspect, you need reasonable justification to recommend social media marketing as a tactic to back up strategy.
In social media marketing, there are essentially two aspects: listening and talking. With few exceptions, every organization should be listening â that is monitoring social media. As noted, you need to weigh how much you want to invest in it. But, donât be fooled. No matter what your company or your client does, there are online conversations occurring about it. Be aware of them. For a rundown on some free and full-service social media monitoring tools, see a review I did that CustomScoopâs Media Bullseye published.
To decide whether you should talk â that is be active in social media â here are questions to ask yourself and your client or company.
Sizing the marketplace
First, size up your market and see if there is opportunity to actively engage enough of your market in social media.
Who are you trying to reach: Large demographics like moms or teens, or more niche or trade oriented like utility personnel or plumbers? Do your customers, prospects and other key decision-makers use social media technologies to research, interact with others, shop or buy? Are there already active blogs, discussion forums, groups or list servs used by your audience?
Sizing up the benefits
There are a variety of reasons and benefits to starting a company or association blog or be active on boards and other online communities. Any or all of the below can be valid reasons to be active in social media â depending on your answers to other questions in this column. Of course, your activity can have more than one benefit.
Are you looking to be active in responding to questions about the company, products, etc.? Whether youâre there or not, questions will be asked. Someone should answer them. Are you looking to initiate conversations regarding industry issues, trends, product feedback, future needs, etc.? Are you looking to strengthen the company or a productâs brand? Are you looking to increase your search engine rankings simply by being âout thereâ more on the Internet? Are you looking to establish yourself as market leader by showcasing expertise? Are you looking to improve your offline and online media coverage?
Sizing your company/client
Okay, so youâve reached the point where things are looking good: your audience is involved in social media, youâve determined benefits and objectives. A third key consideration is, do you have the commitment?
Typically, social media activity is not a short-term deal. Yes, there are short-term efforts tied to movies, special promotions, etc. However, for the most part and for maximum benefit, you need to commit time and money. Assuming you have the proper upper management approval, size up the following:
Time: Social media is about relationships. More often than not, youâre dealing with non-professional, every-day people who are passionate about a topic, issue, cause or industry. You need to invest in researching, getting to know and interacting with your audience â on a regular basis. You often need a âchampionâ to drive social media marketing. Other than paying for your time, money is typically not a big commitment. However, depending on the type of social media marketing, there may be technological costs involved (hosting, programming and design costs, monitoring services, etc.). Can you deal with negative comments? They are already being said; just because youâre involved in the conversations, it doesnât mean they will stop. Some comments may be justified â see them as an opportunity to clarify your position or reexamine your operations. There will always be those who you cannot rationalize with. Weigh the risk-reward of responding to them. Are you ready to open up? Transparency is a must for social media success. Itâs part of the established ground rules. Transparency simply involves being honest and open. Not fluffy marketing speak, âPR spinâ or hiding behind anonymity. You donât have to give out company secrets. You do have to treat your audience like people.
These are initial questions to ask yourself, your colleagues or your clients to determine what level of social media marketing you need and can commit to. Whatever you decide, know what and why you are doing. Donât just do it because you think everyone else is.

Size Doesn’t Matter (for New Marketing Agencies)
In Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, our hero, driving a massive steamroller at a snail’s pace, bears down on a security guard, about 20 yards away. Despite ample time to move out of harm’s way, the guard stays put, eventually flattened like the proverbial pancake.
This is not unlike the scenario playing out between large marketing agencies and their outmoded, outbound marketing methods, and smaller agencies embracing inbound marketing. Big agencies see inbound marketing coming, but remain flatfooted.
The Internet disproportionately benefits small businesses, and that includes small agencies, too. With inbound marketing, smaller agencies aren’t one giant sloth of a steamroller, but a fleet of quick-moving little ones.
This disruption boils down to business-model alignment, or rather misalignment, from recent shifts in marketing. Most large, traditional agencies excel at outbound marketing and their business model is aligned for that. They need a large, fixed staff and they charge accordingly.
But what happens when this comparative advantage is no longer advantageous? When what agencies do best (outbound marketing) is no longer best for clients? Smaller agencies aren’t wedded to old marketing methods They have no stake in preserving them. In fact, just the opposite since the new world order benefits them in several ways.
1. Today’s marketing is about content, not distribution. You don’t need big budgets for TV/radio/print ads. You don’t need PR agencies’ access to gatekeepers. Where distribution is a polo game for the elite, content is a scrappy, pickup game anyone can play. The challenge now is breaking through the cacophony of content online… but that just requires brains, not budget.
2. Marketing tools are freely available. No need for expensive monitoring tools only big agencies can afford when there’s a myriad of inexpensive ones (e.g. HubSpot, Radian6, Cision). To create content, you don’t need professional equipment or staffing. HubSpot’s latest marketing video was born from a great idea, one hour of scriptwriting, and two hours of shooting using a $100 camcorder.
3. You can be a virtual, full-service agency. Inbound marketing doesn’t require a huge, integrated staff. We built the HubSpot Marketing Services Marketplace as an eBay for marketing services (open to both HubSpot and non-HubSpot customers). It turns out that marketing agencies also use it to find collaborators for projects. One agency may be great at graphic design, offering call to action buttons or landing page design services, but collaborates with freelancers to provide clients with blog writing services or social media marketing services. Flexible staffing in the virtual agency model makes them more nimble, specialized yet general, and thus able to charge more competitive rates.
4. You can afford — and win with — guerilla tactics. Most big firms won’t change their practices quickly, even if they see the steamroller (or in this case, many tiny steamrollers) coming. Smaller firms, unencumbered by a broken business model, have little to lose trying new things. Think outside-the-box to take capture business from traditional firms. Contemplate la carte jobs, which often lead to ongoing business. Embrace performance measurements (such as the ones on our Marketplace directories) and consider performance-based pricing from the resultant traffic, leads, or customers from your services.
We’ve had raging debates here as to whether PR is dead, Madison Avenue’s future, how the marketing services industry is broken Parts I and II, and how can help transform the marketing services industry. Not all agencies are in denial, but watch out for smaller, nimbler agencies already pouncing on the opportunities created by this market disruption.

The Yahoo – Google Battle – (Index) Size Matters!
The Yahoo – Google Battle – (Index) Size Matters!
Yahoo got more pages indexed than Google. And an enormous amount
more. It seems that the Yahoo index is more than twice the size
of the Google index. Recently this was also announced by Yahoo,
even though they generally don’t comment on index sizes.
However, a simple search for the word âthe’ in both engines
shows a huge difference. Where Google comes up with approx.
3,320,000,000 results, Yahoo spits out the huge amount of
10,200,000,000 results.
Ungoogle like, a couple of weeks later Google responded. Not by
word, but in silence. An enormous crawl of the net was performed
and even though it still says âSearching 8,168,684,336 web
pages’ on the google home page, it is obvious that they have
indexed a lot more pages.
These new pages actually were ignored by Google before but it
seems that the spider rules of google have been changed in order
to increase the index. Obviously this could not happen
unnoticed. And noticing it we did. Many sites are seeing reduced
traffic since Friday, August 19th, 2005.
Considering that Google has special rules for newly indexed
pages, (Simply said: no PR so PR is not taken into account when
determining the position of the page*) you can see lots of PR0
pages rank high that weren’t there before. Some of the sites I
monitor show a decrease in traffic of about 20 to 30%. If Google
indexed about 20 to 30% more pages then this explains the
decrease in traffic. These new pages get found, but the number
of searches has not increased. In other words, the amount of
traffic Google generates now is spread over 20 to 30% more
pages. High ranking sites lose traffic (especially content rich
sites) to all these new pages that have been indexed. In a next
PR update this lost traffic should be recovered partly I
believe, though all these new pages also contain new links so it
is a swag (Silly Wild Ass Guess) to predict what will happen in
the next PR update.
It is interesting to see how Google now made the fairly
commercial decision to respond to Yahoo’s increased index. A
leader sometimes needs to punch a challenger in the face in
order to maintain the respect of the group. They did this,
though for now it seems to be just a small punch, which makes me
believe we can expect more from Google.
*Controversial, not generally accepted, theory of mine.

Online Internet Websites Market Dressy Sexy Womens Plus Size New Fall Fashions and Trendy Clothes
After years of study on the size and structure of American women, plus size women, including plus size teens and junior plus size females, have gotten the attention of the clothing industry and designers. Plus size beautiful women have moved beyond the expected plus size maternity clothes to be sized and fitted with plus size special occasion dresses that include plus size party dresses, prom dresses and wedding dresses.
More and more fashion shows are including plus size models. More and more designers are creating new, colorful, dressy and sexy plus size women’s apparel to cater to this large segment of America’s population. Women boutiques are opening up all across America and online offering everything from sexy plus size lingerie to plus size Wedding dresses and gowns to meet the needs of their clientele.
As the summer enters the second half of August, our attention to fashions begins to change like the color of leaves on the trees that mark fall’s arrival. This Summer into Fall Styles will have a new look for plus size clothing for women this fall. Plus size fashions for women this fall, like with every September, will be putting away the plus size swimwear, tankinis, skirtinis, swimdresses, and cover-ups in favor of warmer outerwear and separates.
Junior plus size urban trendy clothing will include hoodies, sweatshirts, sweatpants, and sweaters. The designers will introduce fall fashion colors into these new fall looks. These plus size clothes will be trendy and sexy when women mix and match these plus size women’s separates.
Trendy plus size pantsuits, blouses, blazers, wrap sweaters, cardigans, kimono sleeve sweaters, pencil skirts, gored skirts, a line skirts, tops, turtlenecks and long sleeve mock turtlenecks will create a bright fresh fall look for women in these fall fashions. Plus size wide leg jeans and 5 pocket jeans will keep the fun alive rolling around in a pile of colorful leaves or a night out clubbing.
Fall wedding planners will have a wide choice of plus size wedding dresses and gowns. Bridesmaid’s fall wedding color dresses in all sizes are available. A plus size Mother of the Bride pant suit will fit quite comfortably for those cool October Weddings.
Plus size career clothing, evening and cocktail dresses will provide women with the proper apparel for the work place and those important evening gatherings with the corporation’s bosses, co-workers, and clients.
As back-to-school sales commercials punctuate our television programs and the daily newspapers sell full page ads for all of our children’s school needs as Labor Day approaches, let these signs be a reminder to you to begin shopping now for your new fall plus-size wardrobe. Many of the best bargains you will find are on the internet for all your plus size needs for both work and play.
With present day economics of high gas prices and higher prices in the market place due to these same fuel costs for the manufacturer and retailer, one can find SPECIAL SAVINGS for Online Internet Shopping Only, and many websites provide FREE SHIPPING with an advertised dollar amount of purchases. This saves time and money for you, the customer.
