Target Market Analysis: How To Define Your Target Market And Sell More Products Easily
Target Market Analysis: How To Define Your Target Market And Sell More Products Easily
Target market analysis is one area of Internet marketing that is often overlooked or only briefly mentioned, but it is a vital part of setting up a marketing strategy. If it is done correctly, you will find the exact customer you need to market to and your sales will explode.
Here are some target market analysis questions to guide you in finding your ideal customer base. By narrowing down your market you will know what target market advertising to use and who you are really talking to.
1. Is your ideal customer female or male?
2. What type of job profile does your perfect customer fit into? Are they an executive dealing with a number of employees or a stay-at-home mother raising children?
3. Where does the ideal customer shop for this product? Do they look for it on the Internet, off-line or both?
4. Is this product or service going to be used as a gift or for the customers themselves?
5. What is the income level of the customer that would like this product?
6. Is this product or service needed for a one-time use or is it needed repeatedly?
7. What would be the income level of the perfect customer?
8. Is this something that is needed, or something that is wanted?
9. What age range are you targeting?
When you go through this list of questions, you can see for yourself where this is heading. You can make a mental image of the customer you are addressing and be better able to start a marketing campaign based on what you see.
Target Market Analysis: Case # 1
Let’s take for example men’s electric shavers. You’re going to start a new website about men’s electric shavers and point your customers to Amazon or eBay to do some shopping. At this point you can narrow down your target audience very easily.
Quite obviously, in this case, you are going to be talking to men. They will be of any age range (except children), they can be from any income level and they can have any job profile. It is something that is needed to keep a man groomed, and it is only something that he will need to purchase once in a while.
Since it is something that can be used as a gift, you may want to look at targeting women during the Christmas season, since many of them will be purchasing these shavers for their husbands at this time of the year. When Father’s Day comes around, you can market to wives and older children.
It doesn’t matter what the product or service is that you are offering. You can define your market very easily by using this list, and you can also use it to help brainstorm marketing ideas. This list is pure gold when you use it to narrow down your customer base and look for ideas.
You can see that you have a wide audience for this shaver product, and as long as you remember that you are targeting men, most of the year, you should be able to find buyers.
Target Market Analysis: Case # 2
Now let’s take a not so obvious product and break it down further.
If you take the example of weight loss, and want to sell a new diet pill, then you may have to do some investigation to narrow down your target audience.
The first thing you should do is find out whether more women than men take diet pills, or vice versa, or whether they both seem to take them equally. If you find out that one gender takes them much more than the other then you have narrowed your market down to 50% of the population. This is good.
To find out most of this information, all you need to do is look at forums. For the weight loss pill, you need to find forums where this actual pill is discussed. It is then just a matter of looking at the details of the posters. Is it men or women engaging in this topic?
You will find out a lot at forums. You may think that a diet pill is something that people would just want to help them lose weight, yet find out from the forum that there are people that feel that they desperately need this diet pill. You may find posters there that believe that if they don’t get their hands on this pill, they will never lose weight.
You can find out who your target market is and what they are thinking by reading posts at a forum and really listening to what is being said. Sometimes you can even find out their age, education levels and job positions by looking at their profiles.
You can really make a marketing explosion if you know who you are talking to and what they really want. Take some time to do some digging and find out more about the types of people that are buying your products.
In your pursuit of doing target market analysis, you can even start investigating some market survey sites to see if there have been studies on your product that show what kinds of people are buying it. You’ll be surprised at what has been surveyed and at times very surprised by the results as well.

In-depth Look at the Nokia N96 Plus Why Have O2 Decided not to Sell It?
It’s finally available to buy, but is the Nokia N96 actually any good? Is it one of the best mobile phones of 2008? And if it is, why have O2 decided not to sell it? Read on to find out!
Nokia – the reign of the Nseries mobile phones
If we’re talking proper top-end mobile phones, then one name in particular will strike a chord across the whole world: Nseries. It’s a name that’s synonymous with the best of the best from Finnish manufacturer, Nokia. Basically, when you see a mobile phone from Nokia that’s got a big ‘N’ in its name, you can be sure you’re getting a powerful, feature-packed, multimedia-friendly handset. From way back in their history, starting with the N70, N90 and N91, Nokia Nseries mobile phones have been the flagships, the trendsetters. There’s a word in the world of technology, and in particular the world of mobile phones, that suits the Nseries down to the ground: convergence. The coming together of lots of different experiences in one gorgeous device. THAT is what Nokia Nseries mobile phones have always embodied, and why people are seemingly obsessed with them.
Well, the Nseries has got a new flagship handset, and it’s fair to say it’s one of the most anticipated mobile phones of 2008: the Nokia N96.
Nokia N96 – flying the flag
The question that’s been on everybody’s lips (apart from ‘When can I get one, tell me, please, WHEN?’) is… is the Nokia N96 really as good as it’s made out to be? Well, I can categorically say that it’s really rather excellent. The Nokia N96 is genuinely beautiful, dumping the hard edges and sharp design of its predecessor, the Nokia N95, to use more flowing curves and glossy fascias, making it one of the most attractive mobile phones around. Ok, so it looks like its OTHER predecessor, the Nokia N81, but that isn’t a bad thing, believe me.
Nestled inside that curvy, sexy body, you’ll find the Nokia N96’s arsenal of features, designed to put other mobile phones to shame. So, no the Nokia N96, you get a 5 megapixel (complete with Carl Zeiss lenses, and bags of extra features like autofocus and flash), GPS, super-fast HSDPA internet and most importantly, a STUNNING multimedia player (which includes DVB-H mobile TV and streaming video). Good job you get 16Gb of memory in the Nokia N96, because you WILL be filling it with loads of cool stuff. Oh, and let’s not forget that the Nokia N96 is one of the few mobile phones on the market that you can use BBC iPlayer with. That’s just phenomenal.
Basically, as I’m sure you’ve gathered, I really rather like the Nokia N96 (and that’s saying a lot, coming from me, since I’m a Sony Ericsson lover, usually). It’s gloriously relieves itself all over other mobile phones, and so, yes, it is as good as people have been expecting.
That being the case, then, how come O2 have decided not to sell it?
O2 and Nokia go together like… well, like two things that don’t go together at all
It’s an odd fact, really, until you think about it: why would O2 say no to the N96? Nokia have crafted a wonder of a phone here, and it’s going to sell by the bucketload. Surely O2 would want a piece of that pie? Well, I can answer that question with one word.
You see, O2 have paid huge amounts of cash to be the exclusive network in the UK for the iPhone. As in bags and bags of cash. And since the iPhone 3G is subsidised heavily by the network, that’s used up a huge chunk of O2’s subsidy budget for the year, the money they use to make mobile phones cheap, or free. Since they’ve splurged it all on the iPhone, there’s not masses left to subsidise the Nokia N96, another expensive mobile phone that will need lots of subsidies to even think of it being free. That’s bad news for the Nokia, since it means that they’d only be able to offer it free on really high tariffs, and so, it wouldn’t be as attractive to customers. So, because of the iPhone, something I still say is a niche product, other, better mobile phones aren’t getting a look in. That’s a real shame, because by not stocking the N96, I reckon O2 are onto a loser..
Social Media Marketing Does Not Sell
Social Media Marketing Does Not Sell
Nowadays, everywhere you look you will hear something new about social media marketing including how great it is, how it won the Presidential campaign, and how companies are spending more money doing it. There’s one problem though – Social Media Marketing does not sell!
Think about it – How many Facebook and MySpace ads have you ever clicked on? Even if you did click on an ad, how many times did it lead to a purchase? The truth is social sites are a great place for people to meet people and make business connections, but its not a place for advertisers to make money.
Social sites struggle to bring companies what they need most – actual paying customers. The problem is that people don’t go to Facebook, Twitter, or MySpace to make buying decisions, they go there to be social. According to a recent study by Knowledge Base, only 5% of social site users have ever used a social site to help them make a buying decision. This is the main reason why Facebook continues to struggle to monetize its 400 million users and have resulted to alternative means of making money.
In addition to social media marketing not selling, it is also important to be aware of the dangers of social media. Although social media can create a following, it can also create an angry mob. Just ask Toyota and their faulty accelerators. Another danger is the opportunity cost. Social marketing takes time – a lot of time. To be social, you have to be social often and always. Although these efforts may result in incremental gains, please consider the cost of not redirecting resources elsewhere.
Now, this isn’t commending all social marketing. Social marketing does have its place. I use social marketing for my blog. This may sound hypocritical, but I am not selling anything. What I am offering is free content and commentary – something much more inline with the social mindset than the consumer mindset
Regardless, I am not advocating ignoring social media at all. I am just advocating that you need understand its use and its dangers, and that use it appropriately.

How to Sell Ad Space for Banner Advertising – 5 Tips
How to Sell Ad Space for Banner Advertising – 5 Tips
Here are five crucial factors that need to be considered when monetizing your website or blog with private Banner Advertising:
1. Locating Advertisers
You can find advertisers yourself or list your Advertising Space for sale at a Banner Auction website.
Finding advertisers yourself:
The most likely sites that would want to advertise with you would be those directly corresponding to your target audience; Sites that are advertising with your competitors are a good start. You can also contact websites which are advertising on those sites. You will need to contact each prospect one by one with a professional email asking if they are interested in buying Advertising Space on your site. The email should include an attachment or link to your media kit including analytics, prices and a description of your website. Personalise the email stating where you found the website and why you believe they would wish to advertise with your site. You won’t get a favorable response to a a standard and impersonal email. Keep a record of who you’ve contacted and their response. Remember to follow up on an email and offer some great deals to get noticed
Advertising Space For Sale:
Sell Ad Space at an auction website to spare yourself the hassles of looking for individual advertisers one by one; Ad space Auction websites enable you to list your space together with details of your website and analytics. You can either set a specific buy-out amount or put the Ad Space up for auction; Potential buyers are able to contact you direct and make you offers; You can create a store which displays all the Advertising Space you have available, standard information about your website, your acceptance policies, ad specifications, analytics and anything else you desire.
2. Positioning, Quality & Quantity
What advertisers look for:
Positions above the fold (where their Banner Ad will be displayed without viewers needing to scroll down to see it); Larger Banners (the bigger, the more you can charge); Wider Ads are more readable and tend to perform better than vertical Banners; Not too many competing Ads on the same page (large volumes of space taken up by other advertisers on your website takes away their quality); Your traffic is only one indicator of the worth of your Advertising Space. Many advertisers seeking to reach a specific target audience in their niche would rather advertise on a directly related site than a site with huge traffic but no relevance.
3. Costing Method
How should you charge? Below are the method of how to charge for Ad Space:
Pay Per Click (PPC) – the advertiser pays you the agreed amount each time a viewer clicks on their advertisement; Cost Per Thousand Impressions (CPM) – an amount is charged for each thousand times the Ad is to be displayed on your website; Pay Per Action (PPA) / Cost Per Lead (CPL) – payment is made each time the Advertisement is clicked and the customer undertakes some type of approved action (such as registering, subscribing or making a purchase); Cost Per Time – this is the most favorable method of costing for private Ad sales. Sponsors simply pay to have their ad displayed in your slot for an agreed period of time (such as one wee, month or quarter); Most publishers do not offer costing methods reliant on specific events or actions taking place (as the income is too dependent on the quality of the Banner Ad and the offer contained in it). In addition, more reporting is needed to undertake such campaigns.
4. Ad Specifications
Before placing the Advertising Space for sale, you should consider the advertisement requirements and creative specifications, including:
Ad dimensions; Maximum file size; Animation restrictions (example: loop maximum, maximum animation time); Preferred / allowed format; Flash requirements; Video requirements (example: loading with sound off, rollover activation, maximum run time, visible stop icon, who pays additional service costs, polite download); Expandable creative specifications (example: maximum dimensions, file size, animation restrictions, user-initiated, close button, expansion delay, additional serving costs); Appropriateness of content (example: no adult material).
5. Analytics
You should prepare a .pdf or image file of your website analytics.
There are various aspects to selling Advertising Space. With many decisions to make, some site owners just take the easy way out and put their space in the hands of an ad network, where profits are slim and sometimes inventory is sold for scraps due to the overabundance in supply. When done effectively, selling Banner Advertising direct can be very profitable and worthwhile.

How Social Media Marketing Can Help A Car Dealership Sell More Cars
How Social Media Marketing Can Help A Car Dealership Sell More Cars
Social media has altered the small-business marketing landscape. It is not enough to have a website anymore, even if it is informational and well managed. You need social media marketing – it is quick, precise, measurable and inexpensive.
93% of Americans believe a business should have a presence in social media, according to a recent Cone Business School study. 85% believe a business should not only be present but also interact with its consumers via social media, and 56% of Americans feel they have a stronger connection and are better served by businesses when they can interact with them in a social media environment.
Anyone can have a social media marketing strategy but not everyone can do it right. Here are a few ways how a car dealership can do it right.
Expense
A car dealership today averages about 0 per car using traditional advertising. With the economy still struggling, it is more important than ever to spend your advertising dollars wisely. The cost of social media networking and marketing is fraction of what the traditional advertisers like TV, radio and print demand – and it reaches a new market that traditional media just can’t deliver for you today.
New Selling Opportunities
The sooner your dealership gets its name and message out on the social network sites, the better. Sites like Facebook and Twitter have fan pages that generate leads, leak sales and deliver your message to a huge new untapped market. Facebook alone claims to have 350 million users – and 50% of them visit it every day. That is not a typo – 350 million! You can brand your dealership over time and increase your sales overnight.
Drive Traffic to Your Website
Over 30 percent of new cars will be purchased through a car dealerships internet department, and that number will grow as consumers become more savvy about the convenience and savings available, according to Edmunds.com. There are many ways to use social networks like YouTube and Facebook to drive traffic to your dealer website. Entertaining commercials, events, loss leaders and distressed merchandise are a few examples. Someone who knows you from a social media network is more likely to visit your website – and your store.
Contests and Promotions
As a car dealership, you are very familiar with traditional promotions. Did you know that they are one of the most effective tools in social media marketing as well? You can use them to drive sales, generate leads and brand your business. Discounts are a great way to connect with your community. By giving special coupons to your social community, you are telling them you are not only a business to engage with but also one to buy from.
Interact with Your Customers
The reason why they are called “social” networks is because people socialize and interact with each other on them. It is the new word-of-mouth advertising. According to Jeff Kershner of dealerfresh.com, a negative image is one of the biggest fears that keeps a car dealer from embracing social media. But a car dealership is going to have that negative image whether he uses social media or not. And a dealership can change the image by joining a social networking site – almost immediately.
