Organic Search Engine Marketing – it Really Works!

Organic Search Engine Marketing – it Really Works!

While helping traditional ecommerce companies increase their organic search engine marketing, I realized that the services and techniques we apply to those traditional ecommerce clients can be utilized by Internet marketers anywhere and everywhere, including affiliate marketers!

My realization led me to write this article. My goal here is to outline the general process and techniques we employ for organic search engine marketing.

I’m going to construct the body of this article with the following sections:

1. Organic search engine marketing v. paid search engine marketing (PPC) 2. Blogs v. static web pages 3. Long tail keywords v. short head keywords 4. Unique content and Web 3.0 5. Internet marketing and Web 2.0

1. Organic Search Engine Marketing v. Paid Search Engine Marketing (PPC)

Organic search engine marketing is marketing a website to increase the ranking for its web pages in the organic, or natural, search engine results pages (SERPs).

Paid search engine marketing is incorporating paid advertising strategies such as Google® Adwords or Yahoo® Search Marketing in order to be listed in the “sponsored” or “advertisement” sections of the search engine results pages (SERPs).

With the increasing costs of paid search engine marketing, advertisers have been suffering from a downward trend in return on investment (ROI). On the other hand, with more sophisticated and proven strategies for organic search engine marketing, the return on investment (ROI) for those who market to rank higher naturally in the SERPs is increasing. Therefore, we advise ecommerce companies, affiliates and super-affiliates alike to shift their resources from paid search engine marketing to organic search engine marketing.

2. Blogs v. Static Web Pages

Blogs have an inherent and distinct advantage over static web pages. Search engines like blogs better. Everything being equal (design, content, page layout, H tags, Alt tags, age, etc.), a blog page will outrank a static web page more often than not. However, all things are not equal! Blogs take advantage of plug-ins, or features, to be very search engine friendly.

We create and customize “Power Blogs” for our clients. A “Power Blog” is a search engine friendly WordPress blogs with tons of SEO plug-ins. Once we install a Power Blog we use it as a platform for Web 2.0 marketing, a.k.a. social marketing.

The benefits of our Power Blog include:

(A) Multi-Channel Visitor Strategy – Instead of having Google® be responsible for 95% of your visitors, now you can also get visitors from all of the Blog Search Engines. Because blogs use RSS (really simple syndication), you will find that other websites are syndicating your content on their websites, bringing you more visitors and links. By having multiple streams of visitors you protect yourself in case one of your traffic streams starts to underperform.

(B) Free Links To Your Site – The amount of links that you have to your site plays a huge role in how highly you rank on Google®. By utilizing the Trackback feature in Wordpress, you can automatically get other websites to link to you for free.

3. Long Tail Keywords v. Short Head Keywords

Remember, this is called “Organic Search Engine Marketing”…..it’s marketing, and marketing needs a focus. In order to focus in on what to market for, you need to have a solid foundation of the main keywords that describe your business and/or products that you are selling. These main keywords are one to three phrase keywords (or keyword phrases) generally speaking and are more than likely highly competitive. These types of keywords are known as “Short Head” keywords. For example, “car insurance.”

Once you know your short head keywords, you will want to market directly to more specific, longer keywords related to the main short head keywords. These longer, more specific keywords are known as “Long Tail” keywords. For example, “car insurance discounts in Georgia.”

Although the traffic for each long tail keyword is usually much less than its short tail relative, if you add up all the long tail keywords, they will usually add up to much more traffic and most importantly, targeted traffic, than the short tail keywords alone.

4. Unique Content and Web 3.0

Once you have targeted the long tail keywords for your business or niche, then you can start marketing for them.

The cornerstone for organic search engine marketing is unique content creation. Whether it’s 500-word articles, blog posts, blog comments, forum posts, social snippets, or videos, you are going to want to be able to create unique content based on your long tail keywords.

Web 3.0 is a term that refers to the future of the World Wide Web. In our opinion, that future includes the “Semantic Web” or web use affected by artificial intelligence. Sounds kind of like Star Wars®, Alien and E.T. all wrapped into one big and scary WWW…doesn’t it?! Well, not really of course. Semantic Web in this case just means that search engines will be able to figure out what a web page is all about in a different, more intelligent way. The major idea here is that search engines will take a more encompassing view at a page and understand its meaning rather making a determination based on figuring out which keywords pop up most often. In this new Web 3.0 scenario, a search engine might find a web page on “sun tanning in Florida” to also be quite relevant to “sun tan oil application” and therefore list this example page in the search engine results pages under both keywords.

What does Web 3.0 mean to you? Basically, when creating your unique content, keep the semantic web concept in mind and use synonyms for your target keyword wherever it’s natural. Never stuff keywords in your content, i.e. use a keyword just to use it and not when it should be used naturally…and never stuff keyword synonyms either!

5. Internet Marketing and Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is the “Social Web,” so naturally, the concept of social marketing should apply to today’s Internet Marketing strategies.

Social marketing includes posting on social networking, social news and social bookmarking websites.

You can also think of blogging as part of Web 2.0, and of course you’re covered because you have read Section 2 above.

In conclusion, whether you own your own ecommerce business and sell your own products, or if you are an affiliate or super-affiliate, organic search engine marketing must be on your “actions list.” In the long run, outranking your competitors in the search engine results pages proves to bring a higher return on investment (ROI) than trying to out-advertise your competitors in paid search engine marketing.

You now have the basic know-how to create your organic search engine marketing strategy.

How A Healthcare Advertising Agency Can Help Your Business Really Understand Your Audience

How A Healthcare Advertising Agency Can Help Your Business Really Understand Your Audience

In the past, companies could afford to blanket consumers with information. There was little need for a healthcare advertising agency to spend much time targeting the most fruitful client bases. Radio and TV assured that everyone was virtually a captive audience for all promotions. With the arrival of the internet, everything changed. Now, every hospital marketing agency uses careful audience targeting – and if they don’t, they’re doing clients a disservice. For today’s healthcare advertising agency, identifying a target audience is just the beginning. The best promotional programs emerge after a much more in-depth process of research and investigation: the process of truly understanding the target demographic.

A Good Hospital Marketing Agency Can Tell You Everything About The Audience

What does a neurologist do for lunch? How late does an average 45 year old with high cholesterol stay up at night? These questions might seem irrelevant until you consider their implications for medical promotions. In order to accurately target the neurologist, you need to know what media he encounters during the day. You need to know what websites he visits, and what medical journals he is most likely to read. The same thing is true for the 45 year old with high cholesterol. They will almost certainly have radically different schedules, and turn to totally disparate media in their downtime.

Benefits Of In Depth Research

Some might question whether or not it’s worthwhile to put this much time into research. There is still certainly the odd healthcare advertising agency resisting this new push for increased understanding of the audience, but even the holdouts show signs of embracing the facts. Thanks to increasingly specialized websites and publications, it is possible for a hospital marketing agency to provide a more targeted message than ever before. The limitation of that targeting is no longer the media, but rather the amount of research that can be performed. One can place an ad in a very specific, industry-only web sector, but not until that sector has been clearly identified as beneficial and receptive to these kind of products.

Dollars And Sense

The increased spending on research is almost always less expensive than trying a particular broad campaign and hoping for good results. Focus groups can help even a small healthcare advertising firm understand the habits of a target audience at very little cost. The amount saved on otherwise wasted promotional efforts can be funneled into another campaign, perhaps targeted very directly at another promising sector.

Every healthcare and hospital marketing agency faces the unique challenge of frequently appealing to two very different audiences. The same new medicine may be marketed to physicians and their patients, or hospital workers and in-home caregivers. With such a broad market to address, choosing the right audience and pinpointing the best ways to contact them become increasingly important. There is a big risk of wasteful spending unless highly targeted approaches are used for the two different sectors. When a health care marketing company can successfully isolate engagement opportunities, all funds can be used to their best advantage, helping health care companies maximize their return on investment.

Chris Harmen is a writer for Knight Marketing, a healthcare advertising agency. Knight hospital marketing agency specializes in understanding the medical community and translating that understanding into success.

How Much Does Your Google Adsense Really Make

How Much Does Your Google Adsense Really Make

Since its introduction in 2003, the Google Adsense program has greatly help bloggers defray hosting charges and other costs related to running blogs. Blogging can be very expensive especially when you have high levels of traffic and numerous pages. Many are turning to Google Adsense to generate some revenue from their blogs and what’s more, earn some extra on the side.

What Google Adsense Is

Adsense is an advertising program run by Internet giant Google. Google Adsense allows you (blog owner) to sell advertising space on your blog. The program enables you to display relevant text and banner ads on your blog’s content pages. Banner ads are the most common form of online advertising displayed at the top of many blog pages. Google pays you a fee when the visitor clicks on the ad.

When you join the Adsense program, you get access to Adsense for content which places ads on your content pages. Because the ads are targeted to what visitors are looking for on your blog or they match the interests of the visitors your content attracts, you earn and at the same time enhance your content pages. Google uses its vast search technology resources to serve ads based on blog content. In this regard, Adsense has become a popular choice for placing advertisements on a blog because the content of the ads is relevant to the blog. For example, ads for kitchen utensils will appear on a blog post about healthy cooking. Google has an extensive inventory of ads for all categories, business, practically for all kinds of content. If Google is unable to display targeted ads on your blog page, you can display a default ad of your choice.

A companion to the Adsense for content is the Adsense for search. It allows you to add a Google search box on your pages. This keeps the visitors on your blog longer since they can search from right on your blog. When a visitor searches the web using the search box, Google shares any ad revenue it makes from those searches with you and you shell nothing to participate.

Another recent addition is the Adsense for feeds. This runs on RSS and Atom feeds. RSS and Atom feeds are standards for publishing regular updates to blog-based content. Ads are displayed in the most suitable feed articles. You are paid for your blog’s original content; visitors see appropriate advertising and more relevant feeds to choose from.

How to Join

There is no rigid criteria to conform to for acceptance into the Google Adsense program, unlike other online ad networks that place minimum traffic requirement to be accepted. The only real criterion is acceptable content. Of course, any ad program wants to attract quality content blogs only. Assuming you already have a blog on which you can include Adsense links, you first need to be accepted into the program. The first step is to go to http://www.google.com/adsense to sign up. Google will review your blog to find out if you have the necessary traffic and the content that would bring in sufficient clicks to make your taking part in the program beneficial to Google and to you.

Once you are accepted, all you need is a bit of javascript code to incorporate the advertisements into the accepted blog site. Google does the rest like providing appropriate ad links from its inventory of clients to your blog. Targeted ads will start showing up on your blog.

How It Works

There are two sides to Google advertising – one for advertisers selling a product or service called Adwords and Adsense for blog publishers. Advertisers pay Google to have their ads designed using Adwords appear next to the search page results in Google and a list of significant keywords for their offerings. Google will display an ad only if the provided keywords conform to a visitor search. An advertiser pays Google on a cost per click (CPC) basis. This means an advertiser pays only for that ad if the visitor clicks on the ad and visits the advertiser’s site. Advertisers compete with one another to buy search keywords usually from five cents and above. Nevertheless, Google also takes into consideration the search engine ranking of the advertiser blog, so no one site can just buy keywords. For example, a purchase of the keywords “digital camera” produces ads next to Google search result in its home page. Said purchase also shows Adsense ads for digital cameras on other blogs where digital cameras are mentioned.

For their part, blog publishers using Adsense create relevant pages. Google sends out Mediabots (digital robots) which use special algorithms to crawl the host blog page and evaluate the content to determine what keywords are relevant and report the result to Google’s ad server which then serves the appropriate ads. Blog publishers get paid a percentage of the fee that Google receives from the advertiser. This is done through a combination of a pay per click (PPC) and pay per impression basis. Impression is the number of times a specific ad has been displayed. A blog publisher is reimbursed at a fixed rate per thousand impressions. If a page isn’t significant enough, a blog publisher doesn’t get paid as much. There is no charge for the blog publisher to join Adsense. All costs are covered by the advertiser who participates in Adwords.

How Much Money It Makes

The amount of money you (blog publisher) can expect from Google Adsense depends upon several factors. If your blog draws tons of traffic and you focus on a particular niche, Google will serve ads that appeal to visitors of your site. For instance, if you maintain a popular blog devoted to portable media player, you can make a windfall because of the high level of competition for related keywords. Rates for competitive keywords can exceed which impacts your blog’s earning potential. Conversely, if you are in a less competitive niche, you get occasional traffic only, thus less visitors click on your ads which equates to less money earned.

How much each advertisement pays per generated click is also another important factor. Each Adsense ad is not worth the same. An ad may give you ten cents while another may give you per click. It depends on the demand for that kind of ad. If a number of advertisers are bidding for the same advertising space, the advertiser offering the most per click will get their ad displayed first.

Ad formats and placements influence revenue. Placing ads on the right part of the blog page is significant so that visitors looking at your page will see the ad, at the same time it will be not be overly intrusive to put visitors off.

Fundamentally though, it is all about content. To make money from Adsense, you have to know what your visitors are looking for. It may be information on a topic, a product they want to buy or a service they want to avail of and entertainment. Offering visitors good content will generate highly relevant ads which in turn will draw more clicks on the ads displayed. To optimize content, the same basic rules for search engine optimization apply.

Google doesn’t publish the percentage it takes as a commission and only displays what the blog owner receives in member reports. However, you can make a rough estimate. The average click through rate (CTR) for online advertising is generally around 0.5 to 1%. CTR is the rate at which visitors click an advertisement usually calculated as a percentage of ad impressions (number of times a specific ad has been displayed). What each click pays is dependent on the content and keywords that are generating the ads being served.

Although Google doesn’t release the amount it pays for keywords, you can sign up as an advertiser on top of being a participant in the Adsense program for and see for yourself how much advertisers are paying Google for various click through. For example, a thousand page views with Google ads on them per day, at 1% click through rate and 25 cents per click will yield .50 per day. Not a lot but it can cover hosting fees or service fees.

Google Adsense is not a get rich quick program. But there are documented cases of bloggers earning as much as ,000 a month and more. In fact, Jason Calacanis sold his blog network, Weblogs Inc. for a whopping – million on Google Adsense revenues of million yearly. There isn’t any sense why a blogger can’t earn much from Google Adsense program. Definitely, there are thousands of dollars worth of reasons to make money from Google Adsense.

Learn A Variety Of Website Promotion Methods That Really Work

Learn A Variety Of Website Promotion Methods That Really Work

When a person launches a website, they know it is a good thing, but they may not be aware of all the various ideas for successful website marketing. Then since they do not know about those ideas, they can see the site that they worked so hard on to appear one day, but the next day be replaced by another site that is not even as good looking as the one they just launched.

One of the quickest and easiest plans to implement is also one of the ones that can easily cost a person quite a bit of money. That method is to use the pay per click ads that appear on search engines. For some people, the chance of losing money may not be that big of an issue, but for others, it is a serious matter that can easily lead to failure of the site because they can no longer afford the hosting.

If a person has quite a bit of time, they can research various forums that are on the topic that the site covers. Then after they have found some of those sites, sign up for them and in the signature put a link back to the site. The reason that this method may take quite a bit of time is because a person may need to make several posts before they can have a signature, but also the more posts a person makes the higher the chance of people clicking on the signature.

If a person is any good at writing and is able to carry out key word research properly, they may want to attempt the ideas of successful internet marketing called article marketing. This form is free, but it can be time consuming as well. However, if a person writes really good articles and submits them to high ranking directories, it is possible to start getting a steady flow of long term traffic from them.

Getting noticed by the search engines is a great way to get organic traffic. However, the problem is some people may not be aware how to do that and will need to have the help of a search engine optimization expert. These people can help get a site indexed into the search engines, but can also help modify a website to keep people on the site to purchase products rather than to leave.

Building an email list and getting emails out to that list is another great way to market. For some people, they may not think this is a good method, but even if just one person on that list clicks to see what is being offered it could easily lead to a sale and that could pay for the entire month’s bill for the email service.

Having a web site does not always guarantee success on the internet. To get that success, a person needs to be able to get traffic to the site as well. However, the issue that a person can encounter is in not knowing about the various ideas for successful website marketing.

Social Media Marketing Exposed – How Social Marketing Traffic Really Works

Social Media Marketing Exposed – How Social Marketing Traffic Really Works

The rising numbers of the online social media community is enticing. Business owners the world over are lining up their plans to tap into these numbers, all incorporating social media marketing strategies in one way or another. But simply jumping on the bandwagon is not enough. Knowing why social media optimization – a method in social media marketing – is valuable will go a long way in forming more effective strategies. There are a couple of reasons why they are important.

The first: linking. Linking is something any website owner strives for, whether you are talking about a personal blog – or, in this case – your business’ website or social media page. Social media optimization is one of the ways to promote what is essentially the act of bookmarking your page, so that it is easily accessed by members of the same social group. This translates to an increase in social marketing traffic. This association makes it easier for information about your business to reach members of any particular trade. Think of it as a sort of “word-of-mouth” phenomenon, only in the context of online socializing. People are more apt to click on a link that has been recommended by people who they share an affinity with (i.e. people from the same social network) than they would a random hit on a search engine. Linkages often set off a chain reaction, and the number of clicks a URL has will double up over itself, and more clicks naturally mean more traffic for your page.

That said, visits are not important in and of themselves. Which brings us to the second reason social media optimization is essential: the fact that it promotes people to stay and explore your page, as opposed to only looking at the main page. Social media page owners need to make sure that the content in their pages encourage visitors to actually browse through the site. There are various ways to make visitors more inclined to do this:

-          Providing user friendly navigation to make it easier for visitors to go through the site.

-          Offering ample and useful information, making sure essential details about the business and yourself is made known.

-          Offering personal information through articles, videos and podcasts about you to build trust and to give the message that they are dealing with an actual person.

-          Using designs that are pleasing and attractive to the eye.

A clever combination of any and all of these according to your particular business is a surefire way of increasing web traffic.

The answer is not far fetched…

This now brings us to the BIG question…

Does article marketing really work?

A simple “YES” answer will not do article marketing any justice without you first examine your visitors’ mentality, intentions or their expectation online and then see how article relates to the reader’s state-of-mind.

First thing you need to realize is the fact that an average internet surfers want one thing and came to the web for one thing only – to get a content rich information. How relevant the information they get relates to what they need is what will determine if they want to get more information from the same source “YOUR SITE” or move forward to another site.
