Scribus is a Free Software Publishing Program That Has Been Rapidly Gaining in Popularity

Scribus is a Free Software Publishing Program That Has Been Rapidly Gaining in Popularity

Making business brochures is easy. Making brochures that look good is a bit more difficult. Making effective brochures that increase profits is harder yet. But with the help of a well designed, user friendly software program, the task becomes somewhat more manageable.

So which program should you choose? Well, it really depends on your personal preferences. For more details go to: www.scripts-to-sell.com the only way you are going to produce an attractive and effective brochure is if you use a program with which you are familiar. And the only way to become familiar with a program is to use it for a while.

So my advice is to try a few different programs, become familiar with each, and then decide which one to use full time. Every one of the products that I am discussing in this article is either free or offers a free demo, so there is no cost to try out each program.

The best known publishing software programs are Microsoft Publisher, Adobe InDesign, and Quark Press.

To get the most powerful features and capabilities, you can choose one of these programs. But they are not your only options. I am going to discuss two other programs that are not as well known as those powerhouses, but can help you all the same. One is a surprisingly capable (and free) publishing program, while the other is a word processor that can function as a brochure designer in a pinch.

One final note before we begin: no matter which program you ultimately use, always (AND I MEAN ALWAYS) uses a very good commercial printer to handle your brochure printing. You will be sorry if you do not.

Without further adieu, here are two relatively unknown programs you can use to make your business brochures:

1. Scribus

Scribus is a free software publishing program that has been rapidly gaining in popularity. It is best known for its massive array of page layout features, as it has more than the number offered by its big competitors: Adobe InDesign, QuarkXPress, and Microsoft Publisher. For can visit to: www.pure-profit-software.com Due to its remarkably affordable cost (free) and its wide range of features, many hardcore designers have turned to Scribus as their program of choice.

2. Apple Pages

This page layout application has remained under the radar because it is usually considered more of a word processor than a desktop publisher. Still, it has many publishing features that make it much more effective than Microsoft Word, including multi-column layouts, stationary templates, and brochure templates.

While it may not be as powerful as some of the other brochure making programs out there, it is a perfectly acceptable choice if you own a Mac and do not want to spend a lot of money on new software.

Keyword Popularity Analysis and Its Significance

Keyword Popularity Analysis and Its Significance

Why do we require a key word popularity analysis?

A search Engine Optimizer should always start of with his key word research before building his content and creating web page as this is a comprehensive internet strategy. It helps you to find out the most competitive key word and a popular key phrase in the market. Targeting the right key word is essential, as your content should make use of these key words to appear in the search page. If your web page consists of the key word that a user is looking for, it appears in the search engines and gets you quality traffic. The number of times the keyword phrase has been searched for on the meta-search engines, will be tracked easily by the word tracker. However, this count result need not truly represent all search engines equally, as it differs with Google, Yahoo and MSN.

It further helps you find out the number of searches in the recent past for a particular key word or a key phrase. Secondly, it helps find variations of the primary key word known as the secondary key words which can also be used. Thus it suggests you the alternatives of your popular key word. Finally, it helps in building relevant content with the help of relevant key words.

How is content written?

The actual page content should have a keyword density of about 3.5% and should weigh in at about minimum of 200 words –Out of this Primary KW should be repeated roughly around 4 times and the secondary kw around 3 times per page of 200 words. Similarly the no of KW would increase with the increase in the total no of words for a particular page. Plural, past tense, etc. are used by the major search engines as similar but not identical keywords. Thus, you will get much of the benefit of using them in your keyword densities without running the same risk of hitting densities that are too high. As an added bonus, you may just rank for these other keywords as well.

Any page content will have two sorts of Key words:

Primary Key Phrase: Eg. Los Angeles

Secondary Key Phrase: Eg. Visit Los Angeles, Los Angeles Holidays

Search Engine Optimizers do a key word analysis with the help of Overture Key word Research Tool or a word tracker to find out the top Key word. This tool gives the no of clicks found per word. They then take the top 7-8 Key word in the list and use it as targets for their site. They further categorise it into Primary and Secondary Key word.

The Popularity of Online Advertising

The Popularity of Online Advertising

Internet banner advertising is one of the best ways of advertising for company’s brands on the internet. For a successful online banner advertising, it is necessary to create some interesting and flashy website banners and then place them on the various websites and wait for users to click on it. However, sometimes this does not appear as simple in practice as it sounds. Here are some of the useful tips that could be used in making effective banner ads.

If companies are just beginning with it’s banner advertising program, it is advised that in the initial few campaigns they should not concentrate much on the flashy part. They should pay more attention on the copy of the banner ad as it is the copy that most people would read and then click on the link to visit their websites. If the text is not informative enough then the banner would not be clicked and the companies would not have visitors to their websites.

The another crucial aspect of banner advertising is the right placement of the banner ads. Ads should be placed only in places where they would gain the maximum exposure and would create higher traffic. The chief vision of banner advertising is to generate clicks. And this could be done best only by effective and potential content. If the written text is effective enough in making people read it, then it won’t take much time to make them click on the respective ads. Most of the digital marketing agencies successfully make their banner ads to appear in the targeted places.

Now-a-days, it has been frequently seen that some popular websites display advertisements at the top or pop up advertisements. The banner advertisements specifically the ones at the top and pop ups are some of the instruments used in digital marketing practice. Online banner advertising is a serious business and website owners who are heading into online advertising should have a good knowledge about the best ways of placing online banner ads so that they are helpful to the business. The size, content and idea of these banners differ from one to another. Successful online banner advertisement is the one which can have the maximum results from its display.

The Popularity of Blackberry Software – Why the Fuss?

The Popularity of Blackberry Software – Why the Fuss?

BlackBerry handheld integration into an organization’s e-mail system is provided through a software package called “BlackBerry Enterprise Server” (BES). Versions of BES are available for Microsoft Exchange, Lotus Domino and Novell GroupWise.

Individual users can often use e-mail services provided by the wireless provider and therefore may not be required to install a BES server on their local network, but organizations that have multiple wireless users usually run BES on their own network. While it can be very expensive having an own BES, third party companies like GPXS provide hosted BES solutions. These are solutions with the advantages of an own BES, but without the costs.

BES can act as a sort of e-mail relay for corporate accounts so that users always have access to their e-mail. The software monitors the user’s local “inbox”, and when a new message comes in, it picks up the message and passes it to RIM’s Network Operations Center (NOC). The messages are then relayed to the user’s wireless provider, which in turn delivers them to the user’s BlackBerry device. This is called Push procedure, where the mobile user doesn’t have to synchronize the data by hand. All new e-mails, contacts and calendar entries are pushed to the BlackBerry device automatically. Device storage also enables the mobile user to access all data offline in areas without wireless service. As soon as the user connects again, the BES sends the latest data. This way the handheld is always up-to-date.

BES also provides handhelds with TCP/IP connectivity that is proxied through a component called “Mobile Data Service” (MDS). This allows for custom application development using data streams on BlackBerry devices based on the Sun Microsystems Java ME platform.

In addition, BES provides security, in the form of Triple DES or, more recently, AES encryption of all data (both e-mail and MDS traffic) that travels between the BlackBerry handheld and a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

The universal and push-based connectivity of the BES/MDS infrastructure are among the most valuable aspects of Research In Motion’s product. An organization can have devices on different carriers, and connected through different cellular network protocols, all functioning in an integrated fashion.

Most providers offer flat monthly pricing for unlimited data between BlackBerry units and BES, which also enhances the value of the MDS component. In addition to receiving e-mail, organizations can make intranets or custom internal applications with unmetered traffic.

With more recent versions of the BlackBerry platform, the MDS is no longer a requirement for wireless data access. Beginning with OS 3.8 or 4.0, BlackBerry handhelds can access the Internet (i.e. TCP/IP access) without an MDS – previously only e-mail and WAP access was possible without a BES/MDS. The BES/MDS is still required for secure e-mail, data access, and applications that require WAP from carriers that do not allow WAP access.

Unlike television, this medium is cost effective and extensive in reaching audience. Moreover, banner network gives a large exposure to banner ads.

Keyword popularity check

Keyword popularity check

Before using keywords for your site, it is always better to check for the popularity of these sub theme keywords. Some or all of the tools mentioned in the keywords tools section could be utilized to measure the popularity of these keywords.

Based on the popularity count of these tools we should come up with a descending order listing of our most unused but good key phrase. These are our good target keywords. As the competition increases on the keywords, deeper optimization then just building keyword specific pages will have to be done.

Variations on sub- theme words:

This is the word- play to get into the mind of the user.

Now our set of 25 to 30 keywords will be expanded to include singular-plural word combinations, juxtaposing the same words in a different combination, using synonyms, building on the list of words using Thesaurus & a good dictionary.

The ideal set of keywords/ key phrases is to come up with around 70-100 possible ways of looking for that web site on the search engines (our keyphrases)

Research on these variations of the sub theme keywords for actually combing up with the combinations that are relatively un optimized for yet popular.
At the end of this exercise we will have the ranked list of keywords, which we can start optimizing for.

General observations & other nuggets:

When using google to check for the competing pages through the SERP house the keyphrase in quotes. This will do the exact phrase searching for the phrase that we are optimizing for. Now to have a real feel of the actual competition on this phrase use the adword tool.

Typically offline competition for the business & online competition are not equivalent. The client needs to be driven out of this mindset. Online the competition for us depends on the key-phrases that we choose rather then the industry or the competition chosen keywords.

Another useful tip is to watch out for the ranking of the subpages on the SERPS page.

A higher occurenec of a sub- page suggests a lesser competitive key- phrase.

Keep excel sheets handy to work out on your key words

Here is a benchmark:
If the site is fairly well optimized, and has a focused theme, then the combined total number of visitors from secondary variations of the main keyword phrase, should be higher than the number of visitors from your main phrase by itself.

Another yardstick can be that 20% of your search traffic reach you through your primary theme words. Another 20% through the sub theme words & their combos & the remaining 60% is fractional. A true pyramid.

Keep the keyword density on your pages in between 5-20% while optimizing.
The latest talking optimization based on keywords is that almost none of the things mentioned above might apply as it is. You create text based on the end user perspective & optimize for 5-6 keywords per page. Check your referrer stats & fine tune optimization.

Free Keyword Tools:

The first tool that can be used is Overture.

One trick is to check the keywords on all the Overture tools, US, UK, DE, FR and even JP. You would be surprised at the ideas you can come up with on the other O Tools that do not appear on the US one. Also, the de-pluralizing and match-drive-alphabetization some times does not appear on the other tools.
Second tool of course is the word tracker.

Use Google adwords to check on the competition for the chosen phrases using the CPC barometer. Higher the CPC more the competition.

Another tool is at:

Yet another tool is Alta Vista “PRISMA”

One can use Refine search option of Teoma to arrive at more generic/Primary keywords. Another way of doing that could be through the DMOZ subcategory study.

Refining of key words can be done using the Server side data or the referrs log.

UK Letting Down Global PC Sales Despite Laptop Popularity

UK Letting Down Global PC Sales Despite Laptop Popularity

New figures from technology research analysts Gartner have indicated PC sales in the UK compare poorly to global levels. Sales of PCs in the UK are constraining a revival of the global computer manufacturing sector according to Gartner, which predicts a return to growth for worldwide PC shipments in 2010. However, the forecast relies on the UK improving its sales, having experienced a prolonged decline in sales.

Computer sales in the UK totalled 3.3 million during the third quarter, down by 2.4 per cent on the same quarter in 2008. 2008 was also a poor year – the first in six years that the sector experienced a decline.

With dismal desktop PC sales, the global PC manufacturing sector has relied heavily upon the sales of laptops and netbooks. Globally, laptop sales are expected to grow by 21.2 per cent to 196.4 million units next year, with netbooks the major reason for this growth. A 41.4 per cent growth in the sales of these mini notebooks is forecast, taking total sales to 41 million.

Consumers appear enticed by the affordability of smaller laptops, balancing functionality with price and allowing users to access internet on the move.

Dell LATITUDE D600 series laptop battery, Dell INSPIRON 6000 laptop battery, Dell VOSTRO 1000 laptop battery

another story is Consumer Laptop Demands Fuels Growth in PC Shipments

IT research company Gartner has revealed an 18 per cent increase in global PC sales. The new figures revealed that 376.7 million sales of PCs were made last year, compared with 308.2 million during the previous year. The growth was driven largely by an increase in sales in the consumer segment, which, according to Gartner’s principal research analyst Ranjit Atwal, continues to grow despite the global economic difficulties. The increased sales translated to a 12 per cent increase in revenue to 5.4 billion.

The large business segment is expected to contribute to further growth, with Atwal revealing expectations that PC replacement programmes and the migration to Windows 7 at big companies would begin in the second half of 2010 and continue until 2012.

Netbook growth, meanwhile, is also expected to continue, with shipments expected to total 41.8 million on 2010 – an increase of 30 per cent on 2009. That figure would give netbooks an 18.6 per cent share of the laptop market, though that figure is expected to fall to 13.9 per cent by 2014. Ten million iPad type devices are expected to be shipped this year, compared to just 2 million tablet PCs, though iPad sales are expected to rise from 2013 once functionality increases and prices fall.
