If your are trying to make any money online, one of the fastest and best ways to do it is building a list though optin e-mail list marketing. I know you have seen it before if you have signed up to receive an email, you are just one of hundreds or thousands who are subscribed to this particular person’s newsletter. But some people think that the more subscribers you have the easier it is for you to make money. This is not necessarily true because a small “targeted” list of subscribers can match up any day to a 100,000+ list. It is hard to sift out the buyers from the lookie-loos unless you know a couple of things.

1. You need to know who your customer are
    What are their needs, what is their demographic, what situations are they in. You need to be able to communicate with them and show that you know where they are coming from. Building a relationship with your target audience is a major part of building a successful list. Once they can trust you they will be more willing to buy from you.

2. You need a product or service of real value
    Why would you want to spend that time building a relationship only to be in jeopardy of losing it by providing useless information. People obviously signed up with the intent of recieving valuable knowledge about something whether it be a new deal on a hot product that they know about an that you are selling, or maybe they needed a little extra cash to pay bills and you are providing them with valuable content and direction to systems that could benefit them. 3. Joint Ventures
    Now that you have a list craving to obtain the great products and services you are providing then you can try to increase that list by finding a joint venture. A JV Partnership is typically a business enterprise in which two or more companies or individuals enter a temporary alliance. In this case you agree to sell each others products to your respectable lists. This can become very lucrative for you if you can the right person to do business with

Everybody in internet marketing says “the money is in the list”.  The email list, that is.

Why is that?  Can’t I just do direct selling on my website?  Sure you can. But if you were to build a list, you would have a very  interested group of people waiting to hear what you have to say!

Getting your sales to convert, takes a lot of work, and of course, you need traffic.  Sending traffic to your sales page might get a small conversion rate of about 1-2%.  But that means that 98-99% of your hard earned traffic goes away. . . forever!

Hey, that’s almost EVERYBODY!  And you will never hear from them again. Now, if before they left your site, you had a way to capture their email address, you would start to build a list. A very good list, because you know they clicked your link for more information, so they are definitely interested in your topic.

Now this list you are building is a very targeted audience, because you already know they have a good interest in your topic or they wouldn’t have come this far by clicking thru.  That is why you never want to just “buy” a list of emails.  So much better to build it yourself, one by one.

This kind of a targeted list will be much more likely to listen to what you have to say. And because you captured their email address, you will get that chance to communicate with these people again and again.

Now this is where the secret comes in:  Now that you have a list, it is very important how you treat these people. Don’t just pitch sales to them – they will quickly jump off your list. Instead, spend some time building a good, strong relationship with your people, so they will come to like you, trust you, and then, even buy from you.  People buy from people they trust sooner than from strangers.

Building a list of “relationships” takes time, but it will be well worth it. Just remember they are real people, like you and me. Really talk to them and give them valuable information in your emails.  Even give them some free bonuses that also contain valuable information.  However, make sure that what you are sending them is NOT junk! Make it really good stuff, and they will love you for it.

2. You need to setup a form to capture your prospects contact details and connect it to your autoresponder.

3. You need visitors to come to your website (Generate traffic).

Basic Principle 1

Starting with the first basic principle, you need something of value to offer your potential prospects.

You can offer:

- A newsletter

- A product(s)

- A service(s)

- A special offer

Basic Principle 2

The second basic principle is setting up your lead capture form. This is the box (form) on your website that you prospects fill in with their contact details. As soon as they press the send button, your autoresponder adds them to your database and sends them your message. Voila, you are starting to build your list.

Most autoresponders give you the HTML code for your form, so don’t worry about any kind of programming. All you have to do is cut and paste.

The details you can collect from your leads depends on your offer. If you are offering an online newsletter, you only need your lead’s first name and email address. If you are sending them a CD by snail mail, you can collect their postal address, even phone number and fax numbers.Basic Principle 3:

Building your opt-in list is similar to building a city. You want to get as many people into your city as possible, so you need to build roads. You need an 8 lane highway and multiple smaller roads to fill your city with people.

In list building terms, you need to focus on one main technique to pull prospects into your list. You will also want to use secondary techniques to add to the momentum to your traffic. Below are some methods that you can use to develop your lists. Choose one methond as your main focus and use the rest as your secondary traffic sources.

1. Advertise in print

Place advertising wherever your market is. Ask yourself what you read personally, where do you get your information? You market, most likely, does the same as you, so get in front of them by using classified or display advertising in:

a. magazines

b. trade journals

c. newspapers

d. direct mail

2. Advertise online

This is the least costly method of advertising. You can reach a targeted audience through advertising in ezines, online newsletters or pay-per-click services; such as Google Adwords, MSN (Bing), and Yahoo

3. Write articles

Writing articles gives you credibility. Write articles on a regular basis and submit thenm to online and offline sources. You should be submitting articles to the same sources you’re advertising with as well as all other publications you find in your market. Do research on Google or your favorite search engine for the keyword “ezine directories” and you’ll find lists of potential places for your articles and advertising.

4. Affiliate Program

One of the fastest ways to build your list exponentially is to setup an affiliate program. If you have a unique, original product, a joint venture may be an option for you. Contact some entrepreneurs who have large lists and see if they’re interested in working with you.

8. Referrals

This is very powerful. Include a referral or “tell a friend” form on your website. This little form can help build your list with no additional effort. When someone recommends your site to a friend, that friend is most likely going to visit and possibly tell another friend. And the snowball starts rolling. Add this technique with an affiliate program and you’ll soon have a nice fat, targeted list of prospects.

9. Buy opt-in subscriptions

Buying leads is not as simple as it sounds. You have instant access to a large list of subscribers, but they generally are not as responsive as a list you build using the other list building methods.

If you do choose to give this method a try, there is a simple formula to maximize your response rate.

1. Send them a welcome email thanking them for subscribing to your service via one of your partner’s websites.

2. Send them some valuable information with no sale message for the first 2 emails.

3. Send them well crafted messages inviting them to join your other lists or check out your other offers.

1 Put together an incredible offer; such as a report, newsetter, interview, etc. Place a value on that offer. Something you think the offer is worth. Don’t exaggerate because your prospects will pick up on this. Be honest. If you are not sure what to price your offer at, google your product . This will allow you to see what others are selling the product for. In your case, the offer is free to your prospects, but you want to point out to them that if you were selling, how much your offer would be worth.

2. Simple Form

To access your offer, visitors must fill out their name and email address and then your offer is emailed to them.

To build traffic to your offer page, post to the top internet marketing and business forums, as well as send an email to a couple of smaller lists.

The list building process is really quite simple. Offer a quality product as an incentive to sign up to your list. Plug your sign up form into an autoresponder. I talk a lot about articles and how they can drive traffic to your list building page. This is a very important idea. Driving traffic to your squeeze page is the most important thing you can do. Without traffic… NO subscribers. So, let’s talk a bit more about using articles to send traffic to your list building page.

How can you make articles “search engine friendly”? Getting your page to the top of the search engine results pages increased your list building power exponentially.

First, get a list of keywords together and keyword phrases. Got to Overture, use their search tool and check to see if there were many searches on your keywords for the previous month. Use any that have a search rate of 500 or more, but the higher, the better.

For instance, if you search the term “list building,” at Overture, you might get results like, “email list building, and opt-in list building.” It may be hard to compete with some of the highest-ranked keywords, so you may want to concentrate on keywords that are less searched because there is less competition.

So, let’s say you choose “opt-in mailing list,” and want to use so that you can rank for both list building and “opt in mailing list.” And let’s say you’re promoting an ebook about list building. OK, then, your title might say: “List Building Magic” or “Opt-In Mailing List Secrets.”

In the body of your article, you’ll tell people how to build their lists by reading this free ebook. Right? Use “opt-in list building” and maybe “free ebook” as many times as you can, without what’s called “keyword stuffing.” You want to keep the flow of your article natural and you want to use the keywords early and often, especially in the title. Just be sure the article flows when you’ve finished it.

Then, in your resource box, you’ll use your keyword phrases again, like this: Joe Smith is an affiliate manager and a list building ninja. Let him show you how to build a great opt-in mailing list at his website http://listbuildingmagic.com.

How do you know if the density is too high or too low? The guideline for the entire article, including the title and resource box is 2 to 5%. But how can you tell?

You can find some keyword density analyzers online, where you can input text and they immediately tell you how high your density is. It’s simple! But if you want to count the number of keywords you used and divide by your toal word count, you’ll come up with the density, too.

If you find your density is too low, add keywords where you can without making the article sound funny. Or, edit out some of the text. If you find the density is too high, find ways to say “opt-in list building” in a different form, like plain “list building.” It will be hard to find synonyms for that phrase, but you get my meaning. If your density is too high, get rid of some keywords or write more text.

When you have your keyword density between 2 and 5%, you’re set. Check your spelling and upload your article to a directory. It will soon start driving traffic to your squeeze page and you’ll be list building in no time.
