The Potential Impact Of Android On The Mobile Application Development Industry

The Potential Impact Of Android On The Mobile Application Development Industry

Over the past decade, Google has become the dominant force on the web, processing over one billion search requests per day.  However, Google’s web dominance only extends to desktop PCs, which are slowly being replaced by mobile devices, with over 3 times more mobile devices than desktops being sold each year.  The Android is Google strategy to extend its reach into the rapidly expanding mobile market.

The open source property of Android is Google’s unique selling point. Google recognised that the mobile experience on the most part is inferior to the desktop experience due to the restrictions placed on mobile application developers.  Apple, the manufacturers of the iPhone have been known to refuse to approve third party programs because they replace integrated features of the iPhone. Android is a completely open platform that will allow developers to create applications that call upon the use of any of a handset’s core features.  Android also aims to give developers the tools to innovate by allowing applications to combine information from a variety of sources such as the internet or other mobile device users.

The Android operating system aims to bring the experience users enjoy on desktop PCs to the mobile world. Mobile devices operate on a closed system where only applications approved by the manufacturer can be installed on devices. Mobile applications developers are usually forced to obtain code-signing certificates, which cost both time and money. With Android, developers will be able to install any application they develop instantly. The reduction in development costs will open up the market to new developers. Since Android’s success hinges on how third party developers react to the open system, the more developers able to develop for the system, the better for Google.
Google has a 16 billion dollar advertising empire on the web and seeks to transfer this to mobile devices. Although smaller screens pose a challenge to advertising space, mobile devices also offer new opportunities, as due to their mobile nature location based adverting can be used to market nearby services to potential customers. All Android devices will be constantly connected to the web to take advantage of location-based services.

For all the promise of Android, there are several barriers to its success, some of which have already begun to affect its chances of success.  The biggest barrier to Android’s success is the sluggishness with which network providers are adopting Android devices.  In 2008 when Google launched its first mobile device on T-mobile, it was widely thought that they would quickly enter into partnership with larger mobile network carriers such as Verizon and AT&T. Their failure to do this has resulted in a slow uptake of Android devices by consumers, as T-Mobile is only the fourth largest carrier in the US.

Mobile network providers may also be reluctant to enter into partnership with Google because several applications developed for Android completely circumvent their services resulting in a loss of revenue. The biggest example of this is Google Voice, which allows users to send text messages through their phone’s data plan. This means that there is no need for a Google voice user to have a text-messaging plan with their network since Google Voice offers what is essentially free text messaging.

The Android operating system has also encountered resistance from manufacturers for a number of reasons. Some manufacturers feel that the an open source mobile operating system threatens their own pre-packaged applications as network operators and users will be able to completely re-customise an Android phone, rendering manufacturers’ own applications useless. To compete effectively manufacturers want to be able to differentiate their phones and have a unique identity.

Some manufacturers fear that the emergence of a mobile operating system without any licensing fees could result in an influx of new manufacturers into the market as license fees act as a barrier to entry to new firms. This will result in a loss of market share for the existing firms.

Google’s Android has fulfilled part of the promise it had when it was first unveiled. It has lead to new and innovative applications being developed and allowed more developers to enter the market. However, it is yet to live up to its potential. If it is to succeed Android needs the support of more manufacturers and mobile network providers. In November and December 2009 Verizon and Motorola launched a new phone using Android, which is a step in the right direction. Google has the influence and vision to completely revamp the mobile market and with the help of their hardware partners, they are likely to succeed.

Is Adobe Photoshop undisputedly number one program for image editing in the industry?

Is Adobe Photoshop undisputedly number one program for image editing in the industry?

Photoshop is an Adobe Systems Product. Now days Adobe Systems is one of the biggest software development companies in the world. This company provides all multimedia application for all community designers. Graphic designers are using its Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, and Freehand etc. Web designers are using its Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, Sound Booth, and Fireworks etc. Post-production artists are using Photoshop, Premiere, Sound Booth, and After Effects etc.

All above explanation is showing that photoshop belongs to the biggest technologies owning community. Now, I am going to tell you about why Photoshop is necessary for each and every designer of graphic designing, web designing, animation, photography and video editing industry. Photoshop has strong ties with other Adobe software for media editing, animation, and authoring. The .PSD (Photoshop Document), Photoshop’s native format, stores an image with support for most imaging options available in Photoshop.

In 1987, Thomas Knoll, a PhD student at the University of Michigan, began writing a program on his Macintosh Plus to display grayscale images on a monochrome display. This program, called Display, caught the attention of his brother John Knoll, an Industrial Light & Magic employee, who recommended Thomas turn it into a full-fledged image editing program. Thomas took a six month break from his studies in 1988 to collaborate with his brother on the program, which had been renamed ImagePro. Later that year, Thomas renamed his program Photoshop and worked out a short-term deal with scanner manufacturer Barneyscan to distribute copies of the program with a slide scanner; a “total of about 200 copies of Photoshop were shipped” this way.

During this time, John traveled to Silicon Valley and gave a demonstration of the program to engineers at Apple Computer Inc. and Russell Brown, art director at Adobe. Both showings were successful, and Adobe decided to purchase the license to distribute in September 1988. While John worked on plug-ins in California, Thomas remained in Ann Arbor writing program code. Photoshop 1.0 was released in 1990 for Macintosh exclusively, and now the latest released version of Photoshop is cs4.

Apple Ipad Was Amazed Jobs It Industry Cold On Wall Street Had Its Innovative

Apple Ipad Was Amazed Jobs It Industry Cold On Wall Street Had Its Innovative

Apple iPad was amazed Jobs IT industry cold on Wall Street had its innovative

Over the past decade, the Jobs With the music player iPod and smart phone iPhone has successfully launched the field of consumer electronics revolution. Today, faced with even more demanding consumers, he could again spin gold from straw iPad

Some Wall Street analysts like to predict the future, saying that the old model, to be passed away, the times will be changed. When the “Silicon Valley Madman” Steve Jobs appeared as scheduled, these empiricists have further strengthened HP PAVILION DV6000 SERIES Battery own ideas.

January 27, San Francisco herb to an art center. 54-year-old Apple CEO Steve Jobs @ still dressed in trademark black turtleneck sweater and jeans. After last year’s liver transplant operation, he looks like some haggard voice a bit tired, but his heart and soul of Apple is still trying to be energetic look – here he is prepared to redefine the future of tablet PCs.

The dark arena, the Apple has been known as the godfather of demonstrating a “iPad” Tablet PC – a touch screen to replace the keyboard computer equipment. Before that, he has revealed Tablet PC is its “So far the most important thing to do.”

“We already have a iPhone mobile phones and notebook computers, but between them we are still missing what?” Faced with the audience surrounded by fans, Jobs appears to be very proud, “So there such the size of Apple iPad, support for Multi-touch, using iPhone operating system, built-in maps, calendar, YouTube, iTunesStore and other applications. “In his view, iPad easier to carry than a laptop, more than the smart phone functions, is a truly revolutionary product.

On the surface, will be on sale in late March of the iPad really slim, elegant, but it is soon discovered that, even with 9.7 inches display, its function is somewhat boring. Market analysts ForresterResearch analyst Charles @ Cole-man said, in ACER ASPIRE 1410 battery, iPad is a large-size iPodTouch.

In recent months, Wall Street analysts the much vaunted Apple’s tablet PCs will be how to change the world, consumers are also convinced of this, and even religious-like fanaticism. Facts have proved that any person who claimed to be able to predict the future and eventually will be considered to be an idiot.

Is now the capital market has also become more wary of Apple’s new work. iPad within two days after the conference, Apple shares slid 7.6%. Last year, Apple’s stock price more than doubled this year, January 5 is the record high reached 215.59 U.S. dollars.

Tablet PC revolution?

Apple executives clearly hope the iPad be able to leave the computer glorious history, as the company the same as the previous Mac notebook. Now, however, they first need to do is to convince the user is willing to dig into their pockets this lack of innovative products.

In fact, the Tablet PC concept itself is not new ideas. Than 20 years, there have been numerous technology companies try to release a Tablet PC or similar electronic devices, but for those pioneers who, between the laptop and cell phone is like the Bermuda Triangle, no one in that area, to find the right direction.

As early as 1993, Apple also introduced support for handwriting functionality Newton (Newton) PDA, although its innovative efforts to enable the industry to marvel, but the market just do not buy it. In 1997, the return of Steve Jobs shut down this business; Microsoft is also working to push the Tablet PC, but with little success. In 2001, Microsoft founder Bill Gates once predicted five years @ Tablet PC will become the portable personal computer mainstream. Gartner, the market research data show that in 2009 global sales of Tablet PC is only 1.03 million units, even lower than in 2008 to 130 million units. Due to expensive, limited Sony VGP-BPL2 Battery and other reasons, such products are now mainly used in a few industries such as health care and education.

Now, the ambitious dream of Steve Jobs preparing to restore the past. “If the Tablet PC to their existing full integration of the software ecosystem, it will open a gateway for the industry in mobile computing, new road,” the U.S. market research firm CreativeStrategies CEO Tim @ Bajarin said, 2010 will be become a Tablet PC to establish their status and re-define mobile computing year.

Jobs claimed that “new release of the iPad tablet PCs will become a great electronic products”, but this time he may not wish fulfilled.

Gartner analyst Ken @ Durrani said that the consumer is not authorized to carry mobile phones, laptops outside of the idea of a third device, the “user configuration screen to buy either a larger notebook, or to buy a smaller screen mobile phone, IL between the two products are still not count for much. ” Some observers have also begun to question the positioning of iPad ambiguity. Technology blog TechCrunch, said by German @ library Dewei, “iPad is not a true tablet PC, it’s just an oversized iPod only.”

In fact, if the iPad revolutionary, was only reflected in the price. Relative to the pricing system has been superior to other products, Apple, iPad the lowest price of only 499 U.S. dollars, it is indeed subversive. Steve Jobs and even ridicule those who predicted the price twice, “This product embodies our most advanced technology, but more incredible is its price.”

Jobs has always hated the Internet this. Ridicule at the press conference he did not forget that the Internet this really is not good, in addition to cheap and there is simply no comparison with the notebook. However, analysts pointed out that this was Steve Jobs high hopes for the product may be reduced with the lowest profit thin access to this same fate. The introduction of the Internet in 2007, last year’s global shipments accounted for two-fifths of the Dell Inspiron 8000 Battery notebook market, but immediate access to this market has become a zero-profit competition.

In addition, iPad configuration let Apple fans are deeply disappointed – there is no camera means you can not make video calls, will not be enough storage space too small to store more movies, more terrible is the lack of multi-tasking capability. The United States “PC” magazine has written that, iPad order to achieve the e-mail and spreadsheets to switch between a difficult thing, it is really difficult to imagine.

People may exaggerate the importance of technology eye-catching, the British “Financial Times” said that Apple’s iPhone, the popular and highly profitable, but last year sold 1.1 billion global mobile phone, iPhone accounted for only 0.2%.

Continued closure of the strategic

Like Apple’s headquarters in the back garden, “closed” is always a constant theme. Since 2001, released iPod music player, Apple in airtight farther and farther down the alley, they rarely use standard components and chips, which is no longer news in the industry.

In fact, iPad intensify their efforts to extend the release of the Jobs of this paranoia.

Apple claims that, iPad will be “genuine,” Dell Latitude D610 Battery to the user exciting way of web pages. But this argument untenable. Apple iPad refused to use Adobe’s Flash video technology, does not support Microsoft’s Silverlight platform, which means that users will be unable to watch from sites such as Hulu or Netflix’s free video. As for controlling the Flash reasons, clear and concise explanation of Steve Jobs: Adobe too lazy, Flash unstable.

EVOLUTION OF WEB DESIGN INDUSTRY

EVOLUTION OF WEB DESIGN INDUSTRY

Web designing has evolved since the beginning of Internet technology when the first page was uploaded on a web server as a simple black text document. Since then, web designing has progressed into more complicated and complex phenomena, and the process is still going on. The subsequent internet boom and the opportunity to do business online changed the ways and means of web designing entirely. Web Design companies created visually compelling sites to attract visitors for high sales. The web pages were crammed full of information accompanying lot of colors. Those websites managed to fare well for sometime although they were a nuisance for most of the people because of their overlapping colors, large bustling text and eye popping and distracting text effects.

Then came the so called internet recession, which as a paradox proved a golden period for website design. People learned from past experiments and started to make some engaging sites that allowed the viewer to focus on the main product/service being offered. But there was one drawback; the internet populace was going through a learning shift and they used to think that simple websites are designed cheaply. In efforts to solve this problem, most major designers adopted flash based interactive websites to impress visitors through the flexibility and uniqueness of flash based design.

It was the time when HTML, DHTML and Flash tools were used for designing websites. The table based design was good but it had some limitations like lots of codes to write and implement style on each and every object on the web pages. To address this problem, Cascading Style Sheet (CSS) was brought up and designers welcomed it as a savior against long codes. CSS is still very much in the vogue though the search for the best never stops. CSS relieves the web designers from the need to draw the tables. Just the div tag is to be used to assign styles to an object on the web page.

The hottest trend in the website design is the result of a 15 year evolution that occurred step wise. Today’s website designs are more mature and they are content specific not the other way round. In this scenario, web layouts are as important as never before. Smart web designers now employ web design layouts for the purpose of attracting the user’s focus to matter and not the manner. The websites are aesthetically developed to soothe the visitor eyes and keep them engaged. No more liquid layouts for sure.

A related recent trend is web designers’ inclination to create nice layouts but let the background remain sober. The web pages are purposefully left white outside the peripheries to attain focus and hinder distraction. The icons and images are made to project particular points. Furthermore, the web designers embed the videos in the sites to render them dynamic to engage the viewers at once. Light and sophisticated colors are the web designers’ best bet now a days to boost the design effect. Two more things that can be quoted in this regard are reflection effects and 3D gradients.

If one has to tell what is the very basis of web design, creativity can be the simple answer. Web designers are very sensitive to the way users react to their web design. The fickle web designer is always ready to go for web design that is basically odd but stand a strong chance of going mainstream approach. This is the way new web designing approaches come to the surface.

When various web design patterns are analyzed, it is observed that divergent emerging trends exist in the web development field. The beginning of the World Wide Web (www) has introduced oodles of fresh and unique trends in the web designing technology. Initially an academic focus emerged which focused purely on sharing of information. Another shift experienced was to the particular web design phase which can be termed the more graphics era. This trend further generated the techno-hype trend in which clients and web designers groped for new means to stand apart of the rest and use the latest web design tricks to draw attention. At this juncture, applets, flash, and videos were brandished with great zeal as opposed to textual content.

The recent phase of evolving web designing trends confirm the notion that a sound web experience is the outcome of a juxtaposed presentation of visual design, interaction with users, and website structure. This era is mostly called the functionality era and justifiably so. The standards of being a “cool” site has shifted miles from the earlier one. Usability is now the premium web designing buzz word.

lately, the web development field has witnessed two extreme trends of modern web designing. These are text only web design and graphics only web design. The text only designs typically have least graphics, a blank vacant background, and sober text. On the other hand, Graphics only sites generally have information nudged into a corner or tiny box.

To conclude, we can say that website designs are certainly improving with the passage of time. Though this is a sweeping remark, and this evolution has also witnessed many awkward web design trends also. Something that can be safely said is that the mature professional look is more crucial than abundance of images and other web design components. Less design and more content is the rule today. The future prospects for website design are very bright as the horizon is as wide as one can imagine. As the internet has evolved into the sole business platform for many businesses worldwide, the website design may be considered less important as compared to the content.

Kindle 2 Poised as Leader of Ebook Industry

Kindle 2 Poised as Leader of Ebook Industry

Electronic books, also called ebooks, are quickly taking off. Special devices dedicated to reading these ebooks, called ebook readers, have contributed to this newfound popularity with their powerful feature sets. At the forefront of this ebook revolution is Amazon’s Kindle 2. The second-generation of Amazon’s game-changing gadget, the Kindle 2 has a variety of features that people are getting excited about.

Ever stare at your computer screen and get a headache? So did people who used to read ebooks…but Amazon’s Kindle 2 has changed all that. The Kindle 2 uses a new “e-ink” technology that doesn’t have any glare, so you can read it in direct sunlight or in a dim room without hurting your eyes. The Kindle 2 also features crisp, clear images on a large display that rivals some print in paper books! Plus, with Kindle 2 you can even adjust the font size to your liking.

Another one of the advantages of ebooks is the ability to look up words on the spot. Amazon’s Kindle 2 is a walking dictionary, letting you look things up on the web as you read. The Kindle 2 is completely wireless and connects you to 3G networks automatically, which means you can look things up from anywhere. No monthly plan is required; you can read and shop right out of the box.

Online shopping is another advantage that ebooks have over the library. You can download new titles to your electronic reader without ever going to a book store. Amazon’s Kindle 2 is the leader in this department, as it gives you access to all the books in Amazon.com, the largest digital library on the planet. Plus the Kindle 2 boasts the ability to store up to 1,500 books. That’s an entire library in the palm of your hand! No more need to take a stack of books on those long business trips, just one little device.

And that is where Amazon’s Kindle 2 really shines – it’s as thin as a magazine at 1/3 inch thick, and weighs less than a paperback book at 10.2 ounces. It’s slim and discreet profile let you carry it anywhere, and you can charge it from your computer via a USB cord. Plus the Kindle 2 also offers a text-to-speech feature that can read your newspapers and books out loud to you, if you so choose.

5 Things CNN Money Loves About The Kindle 2

It’s really good at what it’s designed for: Reading books that are mostly text. Its e-ink screen technology makes reading a book almost as effortless as reading a book that’s printed on paper. The slimmer new Kindle 2 design makes it easier to hold, carry, and turn pages. And the long battery life means you don’t have to worry about getting lost in a text without a charging cable.

It’s discreet! No one will ever know that you’re reading The Da Vinci Code, The Tipping Point, Infinite Jest, DOS For Dummies, or anything by Danielle Steele.

Kindle-optimized Web sites are on the way. Instapaper, which lets you save magazine articles, news stories, and blog posts to “read later” is one of our favorite Web sites and iPhone apps. Now founder Marco Arment is working on a version that’s tuned to the Kindle’s browser.

It’s super for traveling, with a few caveats. When I spent three months backpacking in Europe several summers ago, I brought too many books: A few thick editions of Lonely Planet and Let’s Go, a Rick Steves, novels for 8-hour train rides, Eurail timetable, and more. A Kindle 2 would swallow all of those into a much smaller, lighter package, plus it would be searchable. But: The Sprint (S) wireless features will not work outside the U.S., so make sure you get everything before you get on the plane. And while black-and-white maps are passable on the Kindle, color illustrations — e.g., subway maps — are often useless.

New books are cheaper on the Kindle than on paper. Makes up for the 0 you have to drop to get a Kindle in the first place. Malcolm Gladwell’s Outliers, for instance, costs in hardcover at Amazon, but is for the Kindle. The Host is cheaper on the Kindle, too.

With all of these options, it’s clear to see why Amazon’s Kindle 2 is leading the way in the world of ebooks. Just like Apple’s ipod changed the way we interact with music, the Kindle 2 is revolutionizing the book world, offering easy-to-use hand-held personal digital libraries. Modern technology has finally caught up the printing press.

Ipad Birth Pc Industry In Taiwan’s Electronics Industry Vibration Mode Of Public Companies Profit Up Remodeling Products

Ipad Birth Pc Industry In Taiwan’s Electronics Industry Vibration Mode Of Public Companies Profit Up Remodeling Products

iPad birth PC industry in Taiwan’s electronics industry vibration mode of public companies profit up remodeling products

On this day, Apple’s iPad officially started selling in the United States. News spread to Taiwan, and the iPad OEM detached almost all the technology stocks that Acer Aspire 1410 Battery appeared in rose, but how others are not happy.

“A few months after Apple iPad time, almost all of Taiwan-known name on the PC manufacturers have launched their own tablet PC products.” April 8, Taiwan, Mitac’s product manager told reporters. In fact, including Mitac, including several Taiwanese manufacturers of flat-panel computer products, available as early as iPad before, we had put all kinds of exhibition booth, powerful and cheap. But today, consumers are still difficult to buy these products.

“From the present situation, Apple flat ahead of this one has too many other competitors.” IDC senior Taiwanese PC industry analyst Jiang Fang Yun analysis, and other PC hardware vendors can easily catch up with even more than Apple, but the service in the background , content, software, Apple has significantly ahead of other competitors.

In Taiwan, iPad to the entire PC industry, the concept of tremendous impact, reflect an upsurge of the entire PC industry is being launched.

So, what is binding the PC manufacturers innovative step, so that they can not Apple-style revolutionary innovation? The face of the raging iPad, other PC makers the opportunity to where?

“Do not call iPad Tablet PC”

iPad is a Tablet PC?

IPad’s consumers have got that, iPad fact, the computer simply will not meet the qualifications – can not run multiple programs simultaneously, even the flash do not support such a feature far less than we normally are used to computers.

Such a product, a powerful platform than the Department of tablet PCs, it is as trivial. Prior to this, companies such as Acer and Microsoft have launched a long with a handwriting feature, you can rotate the tablet PC screen.

“We should not iPad positioned as tablet PCs, it is a new Dell Latitude D610 Battery.” IDC senior analyst at the Taiwan PC industry, said Jiang Yun Fang, iPad is mainly used for entertainment, communication and Internet access, positioning and function of the Tablet PC market are essentially different.

iPad between market orientation between mobile phones and notebook computers, iPad give up a number of Apple users do not need that function, while the main function to achieve the ultimate – enough to light 12 hours of standby capacity, access to the Internet can see the electronic books, movies, pictures, music is not wrong.

In addition, Apple’s leading multi-touch feature for those accustomed to the iPhone (Mobile Internet) users put it down. Procedures being added to iPad application developers than many other cool Tablet PC, which brings the past, Tablet PC, and a completely different user experience.

“For example, a simulation software APP piano, with fingers on the iPhone and iPad fingers on the piano, is a Windows system can not do this out of feeling.” IPad, a fan told reporters.

Although the iPhone, many manufacturers have launched their own multi-touch technology, but in the consumers view, use the multi-touch technology and fluency to use the situation is entirely different.

In mobile phones, Google’s NEXUS ONE touch screen in almost total defeat on the iPhone, which once again reminded people that have entered the multi-touch technology for years of Apple, the technology is still far ahead.

iPad processor is Apple using self-developed A4 processor. Industry analysts, this processor running at 1GHz is actually a ARMCPU + GPU combination.

But compared to using Intel processors, running Windows Tablet PC is, iPad with low price and long battery life advantage — This is the system architecture decisions, X86 architecture enables full PC functionality but the price is high.

Those ill-timed failure

“I expect in five years, tablet PCs would be the best-selling PC products.” November 11, 2001, Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates vowed @ predicted that with touch screen, handwriting input, no keyboard easy to carry laptop computers to replace the traditional position.

That’s Silicon Valley, Google does not often been mentioned, Apple has once Wall Street investors as a company about to decline, yet laptops appear extremely cumbersome, many people do not know why the mobile internet thing … …

But 10 years later, Microsoft’s Windows Tablet PC is still only in hospitals, education, government and other industries limited can see Microsoft’s PC partners have complained to Gates, the so-called revolutionary products of this fundamental are no longer marketable. The original partners of a Tablet PC a go, only Acer still the bullet.

At the technical level, at the time chip technology is still relatively backward background, tablet PCs are designed to be very difficult to light.

In the software, although Microsoft has been dedicated in developing Tablet PC operating system, but the major breakthrough or input, and not in the market to HP pavilion ZV6000 Battery a fully functional touch screen touch. Therefore, the operation of tablet PCs in the past still keyboard, mouse main difference with the traditional products of a small notebook.

When Microsoft launched the Tablet PC, mobile Internet is still far from mature as it is today. Microsoft Tablet PC launch untimely age, in large part led to the ultimate tragic fate.

Why did they refuse to change?

“From years of PC makers to actively promote the Internet of this, smart book also tablet look of these new varieties, in fact, very much like to do some PC makers revolutionary innovation, but the problem is that they caught in the WINTEL architecture, it is difficult to make a truly revolutionary product. “Jiang Fang Yun in their analysis.

Enter the Tablet PC market in the beginning, PC makers have been faced with two options: one is the existing laptop with a keyboard with touch screen function, the other is the same as the iPad, simply touch the screen to only one .

But PC makers soon discovered that the same as the iPad completely redefine a PC, it is too difficult for them.

“Tablet PC screen only need to do is thin, which involved heat dissipation, all cables should be re-designed so that large increases in the cost.” Jiang Fang Yun analysis. This is to some extent, the tablet PC makers introduced high prices, which greatly hindered its vision of rapid access to ordinary consumers.

So to design to design, or Microsoft’s operating system with Intel’s chip line of least resistance – though meager profits, but the returns are very stable, which let PC makers would rather harm than do not want to bold innovation.

“In the WINTEL architecture, the most important technology is not mastered in the hands of PC manufacturers, the operating system provided by Microsoft, chip designed by Intel. PC makers any innovation will greatly constrained by such a structure.” Jiang Fang Yun noted, PC makers Any revolutionary innovation, requires the application of existing models completely subversive.

The direct consequence is that almost all PC makers in recent years in notebook computers to upgrade the physical performance – faster chips, bigger hard drives, more memory, although this innovation has promoted the development of the industry once , but its shortcomings have continued to this day.

For example, WINTEL the X86 framework, the notebook computer battery life, long-term in a very low level, until today still can not go beyond the standard 35 hours – this has greatly impeded some of the revolutionary era of mobile Internet applications for promotion.

PC industry model rebuild profit

Under the impact of the iPad, Taiwan PC makers have begun to reflect on their own profit model.

iPad sell before the official opening, Asus and Acer, and Quanta, Compal and Wistron Dengjun quietly into Tablet PC development. Industry sources, Acer and Asustek products being tested.

“The new all Tablet PC, are beginning more and more like the Sony VGP-BPS5 battery.” Jiang Fang Yun observed. For the majority of PC makers, Apple seems to go beyond the hardware easily. “In the hardware, as long as 3 months time we can make a flat product.” MiTAC’s product manager told reporters.

This company appears in the Mitac, no matter how good the content should have good hardware support, current hardware there is still much room for improvement. “Our easy to use interface is not enough? Let the consumers do not read instructions will use a computer? Consumers to use more simple equipment, we design, the more difficult.” Mio’s product manager, said.

This is equivalent to greatly enhance the Tablet PC of the entry threshold. “We want to design a hardware and related software, is the perfect product, at least one year’s time.” MiTAC’s product manager told reporters.

“PC vendors to start thinking about how the Apple APP store and also the content and resources cooperation, while Apple is a closed system, but I believe we can always find room for cooperation.” MiTAC’s product manager told reporters.

Acer chairman JT Wang has also expressed the same view, others put iPad is not a hardware issue, but behind the content, software, services and so on. Acer is thinking about a complete business model.

But the problem is that Acer still much room for their play? A real problem is in the background and the software, content matching, Apple has been ahead of other competitors too.

Google’s Schmidt Offers Advice to Newspaper Industry

Google and the newspaper industry truly have a love / hate relationship. Google loves the hard news generated by traditional media outlets but hates that the newspaper industry paints them as freeloaders. The newspapers love the traffic that Google sends to them but hates that they are doing it for free. This tug of war has been going on for some time but the inevitable “winner” in any tug of war is the side with the strength and the stamina to pull the team over the line. Right now Google has plenty of strength and stamina while the newspaper industry is in a tailspin.

So when Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt addressed the ASNE (American Society of News Editors) meeting last night there was some interest in just how he would handle this situation. His overall tone was to let the newspaper people know that things would get better. Politico reports

And Google CEO Eric Schmidt told a group of newspaper executives Sunday evening that his growing company will be an integral part of those changes.

Newspapers will make money once again, he said, but it will be from online advertisements and an altered subscription model. Schmidt said his firm is working on new ways to tailor advertisements and content for consumers, based on what stories they read.

“We have a business model problem, we don’t have a news problem,” Schmidt said.

He also took the time to throw a nice barb at bloggers by noting that quality journalism is an art and making that implication that blogging is, well, less of one. Fortunately, I have never claimed to be a journalist so this doesn’t really bug me but I suspect that more than a few bloggers would find Mr. Schmidt’s words offensive.

So how will the newspaper industry heal itself in the world according to Schmidt?

Organizations should refocus their attention on personalizing content and disseminating news through mobile devices – businesses in which Google is heavily involved.

Schmidt told the mostly full ballroom that “new forms of making money will develop,” and that Google is working on those forms. But he declined to divulge many details about that work.

Isn’t it great when a guy blasts a group of people for being less than professional (bloggers) then he just drops a statement to placate a group with no backing to it whatsoever? Maybe Mr. Schmidt is readying himself for political office since it appears that he has plenty of answers but no real details.

Much of Schmidt’s advice seemed to point to changes that might emerge from forms of technology that Google is developing, has developed or could foreseeably develop. Some of those advances in technology, he said, could create new revenue streams for news organizations.

News sites should use technology to predict what a user wants to read by what they have already read, he said – technology his company has. Schmidt said he doesn’t want “to be treated as a stranger” when reading news online. He also said he wants to be challenged through technology that directs readers to a story with an opposing view. Google, he said, can uncover why a news organization doesn’t have readers in specific areas.

Schmidt essentially knows he has this industry over a barrel. Without Google many news sites would see traffic numbers plummet along with the site’s ability to charge for advertising. If you are the newspapers you may be hearing Rupert Murdoch’s cry for paywalls and calling Google on copyright issues but most smart newspaper people are taking the stance of The Boston Globe

Boston Globe Editor Martin Baron told POLITICO after Schmidt’s speech that Google is “already a big part of our presence”: “The reality is all newspaper Web sites get a lot of traffic with Google.”

Baron, whose newspaper has been hit particularly hard in recent years, said Google is having a “dramatic impact” on the news industry, which he said needs to “adapt quickly” to the fast-changing media environment.

Newspaper folks realize they are in trouble and maybe they are also seeing that being cooperative with Google vs. adversarial may help them eventually. Until that time they need to take this very direct and pointed suggestion from Google’s Schmidt.

It’s an equation that’s not easily solved, Schmidt said.

“The fact of the matter is there are not simple answers to any of these questions. And in order to really find them, you’re going to have to run some experiments.”

Boy, I sure hope these newspapers’ editors didn’t pay much to get that advice. Even a silly blogger could have come up with that one.

Are Marketing Dollars Shifting? Exhibit Industry Down 12.5%

In 2010, HubSpot decided to give up booths and tables
at trade shows as part of its lead generation strategy. Trade shows have long been a standard annual budget item for B2B marketers as a way to get face time with potential customers. However, new data suggests that this tradition is fizzling out.

Research from the Center for Exhibition Industry Research recently reported
a 12.5% decline in the exhibit industry in 2009. This decline is up significantly from 2008, which only saw a decline of 3.1%. Overall, the Center for Exhibition Industry Research index has declined for seven straight quarters.

Where Is the Money Going?

A recent Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and American Marketing Association (AMA) study suggested that social media spending will be nearly 20 percent of marketing budgets by 2015.  The dollars to support social media marketing growth have to come from somewhere right? It is likely that money is being taken from trade show budgets as well as other forms of outbound marketing and being moved to online marketing efforts.

Why Is This Happening?

Trade shows work for some companies. The bigger question is, do they work more effectively than other marketing tactics such as inbound marketing? Trade shows can be extremely expensive. By the time a company pays for exhibition space, employee travel, giveaway items, etc., the costs quickly add up. In addition to the expense, many companies don’t have the clear processes in place for measuring the return on investment of trade show dollars. Much of the appeal of online marketing is the data that can be used not only to understand ROI but also to improve future performance.

Shifting Marketing Dollars by the Numbers

To better illustrate why these dollars are shifting, it is important to understand how costs scale. Let’s say that you lead the marketing efforts for a company that has traditionally had an annual trade show budget of $100,000. If we look at the decline of the exhibit industry in terms of one company’s budget, then let’s take the total approximate 15% decline from 2008 and 2009. That means your company took $15,000 out of its exhibit budget to spend on other marketing activities.

So in 2010, your trade show budget is $85,000 and you now have $15,000 to spend on inbound marketing. In the world of trade shows, $15,000 may have covered your booth space for one event.

How could you spend $15,000 online?

  • Spend $1,250 per month in pay-per-click advertising for a year.
  • Develop a corporate blog.
  • Improve search engine optimization for your corporate site.
  • Develop landing pages and custom forms for your key products.
  • Develop and launch a social media marketing program.

The barrier and cost of entry on the web is low. Above are only a few ideas of how $15,000 could be spent toward online marketing.

Have you reduced your trade show budget in order to support online marketing efforts?
