Making Money Online: Long Tail and Latent Semantic Indexing (lsi) Keywords

Making Money Online: Long Tail and Latent Semantic Indexing (lsi) Keywords

If you want to get any kind of traffic to your website or blog, you must use keyword phrases in your content.

Is this the only way to get traffic?

No, but it’s the best free way to attract visitors to your site.

Using a free or paid keyword tool, you will type in the word you want to target and see what results come up. Usually you’ll get a long list of keyword phrases that you can use for your content. At first glance this list looks great, but are all these phrases really going to produce the results you want?

No.

The next step in your keyword research education is learning about Long Tail Keywords and Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) keywords. These are two additional elements to keyword research that you must know in order to get the maximum results from your efforts. This knowledge alone can put you miles above your less informed competition.

Long Tail Keywords

While doing your online marketing research, you will often come across discussions about long tail keywords. Okay, so what are they?

Long tail means, not so popular or low hanging fruit. Basically some keyword phrases are more popular than others. The more popular phrases naturally produce the most searches, and therefore, the potential for bigger traffic numbers. However, because of their popularity, every Tom, Joe and Mary will be using them in their content.

This means that the competition to rank well in the search engines for the most popular keyword phrases will be pretty stiff. So, what’s an eager internet marketer to do?

Go for the low hanging fruit, of course. Yeah, this means you’ll be giving up huge chunks of potential traffic, but your odds of ranking in the top 20 for those phrases are pretty slim to begin with so, why not give yourself a better advantage?

You can dramatically increase your chances of ranking in the top 20 results by using long tail keywords.

Here’s how to look for these gems:

Lets use the keyword – mortgage.

You go to your keyword tool and type in – mortgage. You get the following results:

Mortgage rates = 9617 searches per day

Home mortgage – 1798 searches per day

Mortgage how much can I borrow = 298 searches per day

How low can 30 year fixed mortgage interest rates go = 19 searches per day

Okay, here’s how you’re going to analyze your results and quickly decide whether or not these keyword phrases are good choices.

Go to Google and do a search for each of the above keyword phrases – make sure you put them in quotation marks i.e. “mortgage rates”.

By using quotation marks, you’ll get an accurate picture of how many sites are using those exact same keyword phrases. The fewer sites using these phrases, the better your chances of ranking in the top tier of search engine results.

Here’s the results of our Google search:

“Mortgage rates” = 51,300,000 competing pages

“Home mortgage” = 43,300,000 competing pages

“Mortgage how much can I borrow” = 16,500 competing pages

“How low can 30 year fixed mortgage interest rates go” = 0 competing pages

Mortgage Rates and Home Mortgage gets thousands of searches per day, but look at your competition. Wow. There’s just no way you are going to rank well for those two phrases. The best thing to do is forget about them. Move on down the line to find some low hanging fruit.

Ideally, you want to find phrases that have under 50,000 competing pages.

Mortgage how much can I borrow has 298 searches per day and only 16,500 competing pages.

How low can 30 year fixed mortgage interest rates go has 19 searches per day and zero competing pages.

If your niche is mortgage and you put these two excellent phrases on your site, you will be in prime position to rank well. You may get less traffic for these, but these people are just as hungry for information as all those bigger traffic people. Using long tail keywords can result in getting highly targeted traffic to your site.

Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) Keywords

LSI is something that is fairly new on the scene. Google and other search engines are now taking LSI into account when ranking web pages, so this is something you need to know about.

LSI is basically a set of related keywords that are sprinkled throughout your web page content, or article, in a completely natural way. These words tell the search engines that your content has a high relevancy value to people looking for certain information.

Kwbrows.com is a good free tool that can help you find LSI keywords.

Let’s find some LSI keywords for – mortgage.

Here are the results:

FHA, mortgage loan, second mortgage, mortgage broker, mortgages, interest, calculator, bank.

Using these words throughout your content, in addition to regular keywords, can result in higher search engine rankings for your website pages.

Keyword Research: Make Them Optimized for Search Engine Indexing

Keyword Research: Make Them Optimized for Search Engine Indexing

Keywords play a crucial role in search engine optimization. Keywords or key word phrases are those words or phrases that define and highlight the crux of your content. The choice of keywords is essential to the indexing of your blog or site to the reputed and most used search engines.

A successful blog is conditional to proper and scientific research of relevant keywords that qualifies a specific niche audience search. Therefore, key word research has to be performed carefully and properly to launch a blog that gets a good rank. It should also be catalogued to match the most vital and relevant search generated in the same field.

Tools can only help you to get or access the inventory of keywords listed for a specific business niche. However, you need to choose the right keyword that narrows down the search to your blog appropriately. If you are veteran business professional and in net business for a long time you might be able to locate the right set of keywords that makes your site or blog rank the top in the search engines.

Keyword research could be disconcerting task if one does not put in effort and time to analyze the need, know the audience, and then design the blog. Tools are available in for free keyword research and implementation. This is not just a mere selection of words that you like but those words that people generally search for when they visit the net.

If you are new in internet business, it is always better to consult SEO experts or firms to help and generate a set of keywords just optimized to match search engine results. Employing an SEO expert will be a positive investment in launching business that has success potential from day one.

The most important factors that should cover your keyword research are: Each page of your blog or site should be optimized for a single keyword, Use of latent semantic indexing or LSI i.e. using key phrases rather than single words, Use of geo-specific keywords or using keywords that are optimized to specific demographics.

Each page of your site should be linked to a specific keyword or keyword phrase. Overuse of relevant keywords in the same content or same page could sometimes be confusing. Using up to five different keywords in the description and meta title are permissible and accepted for indexing by the search engines.

The other factor that is elemental in SEO is clustering of words to express one relevant keyword that defines your text. This positioning of the words in a particular right sequence in which the popular search is generated makes a keyword most sought after. Latent semantic indexing in keyword research and analysis actually focuses the variations or iterations of the keywords. It is a strictly mathematical or scientific approach to relate semantically close keywords and generate fruitful search.

Use of country specific keywords in also an important part to ensure the targeted traffic to your blog or site. The same word could be spelt differently in USA, Australia, and UK. Therefore, your research should be able to exclude or include these variations according to your specific target audience. Referencing the keyword phrases in the commonly used search engines is also significant in this context.

Keyword analysis follows your research task. Your keywords should be checked for competition with other sites. Read relevant blogs related to the same business and study carefully the keywords used and their density. Monitor your keywords for contemporary modifications and new search results. These might require re-positioning and fine-tuning for better matches or best rankings.

Keyword Relevance Equals Targeted SEO Indexing

Keyword Relevance Equals Targeted SEO Indexing

The function of keywords is to attract the search engine’s attention. Once attracted, the search engine lists the site that contains the keyword. This system opened up avenues for search engine abuse by web masters. Because of a search engine’s heavy dependence on keywords, anybody could write “sex, xxx, porn” and other strong keywords even though the website contains nothing of the sort. As a result of this abuse, the reputations of search engines all over the web begun to suffer. Surfers got re-directed to websites that had no relevance to their query.

To stop the abuse and enhance their accuracy and reputation, search engines devised an algorithm method where web crawlers not only looked at the keywords, but also at the contents that goes along with them. With this new method of indexing, web masters and internet marketers were finally forced to perform honest work. They stopped using words like “sex, xxx and porn” where there was none and begun writing relevant articles that give accurate descriptions of their website or products.

As a result of this new indexing system, the industry of search engine optimization (SEO) article writing was born. SEO article writers are required to write meaningful articles that thoroughly describe the product or website. Aside from using correct and appropriate writing methods, they also have to reserve slots within the article for the seeding of keywords.

As far as search engines are concerned, they index your website by scanning the top of your website first. Be sure to have descriptive literature of about 250++ words as this is what the search engines look for. Within that 250++ word article, embed your keywords in it without breaking the smooth flow of the article. Try to avoid grammar deficiencies because of keyword seeding. Your article needs to be as correct as it can be for the search engine to understand what your website is saying and what relevance it has to a searcher’s query.

You can try the old method but you will not get as good results as you will with the honest way. Furthermore, attempting to mislead a search engine can lead to a bottom placement in search rankings. Aside from being given low priority in searches, search engines also have the option of removing your website from their index. If this unfortunate development happens to your website, you’ve already lost your business.

The internet is evolving. Just as it took centuries for the laws of the United States to reach maturity, the internet is hurrying along at light-speeds to protect everyone who decides to visit it. If you try to disrupt the flow of one of its economies, various individuals and corporations that own a stake in the internet will immediately smother you and the tools you use for disturbing a relatively peaceful environment.

As honesty seems to be the best policy for now, SEO article writing is the way to go. Do not compromise your articles for the sake of keyword density. After all, when your customers get to your website and read a poorly written article, your esteem in their eyes will immediately plummet. It wouldn’t be a surprise if they decide to transfer to another website with better services and a higher degree of usefulness and accuracy.

Some will say that 2% to 8% is the ideal density of keywords for SEO purposes. Others claim that optimum density for Google is specifically 2% and that anything higher will result in your site being penalized. For Yahoo and MSN, they specify a 5% keyword density. But is it really?

In my experience as an SEO writer, most internet marketers require keyword seeding density at 10% or higher. Now, if Google, which happens to be the most popular search engine in the internet, does indeed penalize websites with keywords seeded at more than 2%, don’t you think that it’s senseless for my clients to ask for more than 2% seeding?

Since Google, Yahoo and MSN began incorporating relevance of keywords to the actual content into their web crawlers, keyword density, which was the main focus of web masters at that time, became a secondary consideration. Unfortunately, some web masters and internet marketers still stress keyword importance over content relevance. For example, the words “book”, “car” and “shopping” are most commonly used in internet searches. If you had those words in your site, you have a guaranteed hit. This system would work before. You could use sex as a keyword, but your website actually contains information about rutabaga farming.

This system of keyword importance and density lead to misleading search results. Because of the decrease in serviceability of search engines due to the abusers of the system, search engine operators decided to add the value of keyword relevance to actual content to better their service to internet surfers. So if you are talking about rutabaga farming and scatter the word sex all throughout your article just to attract more traffic, the search engine will get confused because, your keyword does not have any relevance to your content at all. When this happens, the search engine can ignore you, penalize you or blacklist your website from its search index.

If you take the time to read newsletters or articles about keywords today, you will mostly find similar emphasis on keyword relevance. When you write an article seeded with keywords that are relevant to your product or idea, you are doing several things at once. Your first accomplishment is in having a greater chance of higher search engine result rankings. Because the search engine understands what your website is all about, it would not hesitate to churn it out as a search result from a user query relevant to your keywords. Second, by having relevant keywords on your site, you get more chances of attracting the right kind of traffic. Having more relevant website hits gives you more chances of selling your product because your product is exactly the reason why the users are directed to your site.

Because of the relevance of your article, your ratio of relevant to irrelevant surfer traffic increases. Third, as a result of highly relevant keywords and content, the users will find your website very useful and will most likely decide to mark your site down for another visit just to find out if they can get something useful out of it again. Lastly, even though you will experience a significantly reduced traffic count, you don’t really lose anything since most searchers tend to get annoyed when they are re-directed to a website that doesn’t contain anything related to their search. You increase and enhance the usefulness and reputation of your site without having to resort to dirty, misleading tactics for traffic generation.

Being an SEO writer myself, I can only say that what I wrote above is all true. I’ve surfed hundreds of sites pertaining to SEO writing tips and suggestions. I never saw anyone suggesting a higher priority for keywords over relevance. My own opinion is that keyword seeding and article composition should both be done with great care.

I cannot stress enough how important relevance of keyword to content is. The importance of this value reflects on the search engines need to classify websites according to their content. If your keywords don’t match your content, your website will be ignored by the search engine.

Supercharge Your Lens With Super Fast Google Indexing

It happens to everyone. They produce what they think is the perfect website or Squidoo lens, only to fail to get any visitors. Why does this happen? Everything looks perfect! You have lots of verbage and pictures. Your content is relevant and people ARE searching for what you have to offer. So what’s the problem?

Unfortunately, it could be LOTS of things! Here are some things to look for when optimizing your web site or lens to get free ranking on Google.

Keywords: Not to little – not too much. Your page should have no more than a 9% ratio of keyword to total words. More than that and Google will penalize you.

Your main keyword should be in:

These are all hot spots that Google looks at, so be sure to use them.

Images – are your images named something like “abc123” or do you give them names appropriate to your keywords? Remember, when you name them on your hard drive you can use spaces – HOWEVER, when you upload them to your lens or web site, they will get renamed to something irrelevant if they have to convert those spaces. It’s always best to just name them correctly in the first place. Instead of “Pic of acne scar”, name your image “acne-scar”. This way when it’s uploaded it will be ready to go and recognizable by Google!

Have you pinged your website or lens? Everytime you update your page or lens, ping it! This tells all of the search engines that there is something new to check out on your site.

Are you blogging about your site or lens. Blogging gives you back links – another way Google has of figuring out if your “important” enough to come visit and rank. There are a lot of free blogging places out there. Grab one and use it!

Are you writing enough articles. Articles, like blogging, provides back links to your site. Make sure you do enough. Try to get at least one of your articles on Ezine. They are the premier article site and Google loves them.

These are just a few tips to help you get indexed by Google. If you do them all it shouldn’t take long at all for HER to find you!

3 Tips for Fast Google Indexing

If you have a new website then it takes some time until Google visits your web pages. Even if you submit your website to Google via their regular submission form, it usually takes weeks until Google visits your site.

There are some things you can do so that Google indexes your web page within 48 hours and not within weeks.

Tip 1: Get a link from an existing site

Links are very important for high rankings on Google. The more (quality) links you have, the higher Google will rank your pages.

An easy way to get a link to your website is to join a forum that is related to your website. Participate in the discussions and sign your posts with your name and a link to your website.

Make sure that you do not spam the forums. Only participate in an online discussion if you really have something to say about the topic. If you post in a well known forum then Google will quickly pickup the link to your site.

Tip 2: Create an external blog

Google likes blogs and many blogs are indexed very quickly. Use Google’s Blogger.com service to create a blog that is related to your business.

Write a few posts and add a link to your website in your blog posts. Google will quickly index your Blogger blog and find the link to your site.

Tip 3: Get as many links as you can

The more other websites link to your website, the sooner Google will find your site. Use IBP’s link building tool ARELIS and IBP’s directory submitter to get as many links as possible.

If you use all of these methods, it’s very likely that Google will index your website within 48 hours.

Links on the other pages make sure that Google finds your website more quickly. The more links point to your website, the more likely it is that Google will find your site. In addition, you will get higher rankings if many other pages link to your site. Further information on how to get high quality links can be found in our free link building eBook.

Speed Indexing – 3 Steps to Getting Your Website Listed in Google Quickly

Getting your website listed in Google quickly simply requires
that you know what Google is looking for and how to apply that
to your site. Fortunately, what Google is looking for is pretty
easy to understand and use in your marketing plan. Start with
these suggestions as soon as possible so you will increase your
traffic. Consider the following suggestions to get your website
listed with Google, and listed as well and quickly as possible.

Tip #1 – Submit Your URL

After you develop your website, you will want to register with
Google to get your URL in their database. However, the inclusion
of your URL is not promised so you will need to do everything
you can to guarantee this. One such thing is to make sure all
web pages are fully completed. If all web pages are not fully
completed, your URL might not be picked up by Google robots
crawling the web, and certainly not the unfinished pages. Also,
only submit your URL once as per the guideless set forth by
Google.

Tip #2 Keywords

Keywords are another thing you should use when writing content
for your website. The reason for this is Google relies on
keywords to rank web pages. When you research important keywords
for your market and use them in titles, in the beginning of
paragraphs, and throughout your content, Google will be able to
return your site as a result when people search for these
particular keywords. Make sure you know how to use keywords
properly and the words that directly apply to your market
because if you use keywords in the wrong way they can actually
hurt your rankings.

Tip #3 Links

Another very important consideration for a high rating in the
Google search engine is links… links to your website from
other websites. However, you can do this relatively easily by
simply communicating with other quality websites and asking them
to link to you. You can also link back to them. This is a very
popular practice. Also, there are reciprocal linking software
programs you can use to help you increase and manage your links.
It is recommended that you go the personal route with the more
important links you are interested in to ensure the link
reciprocation process occurs.

There are many things you can do to optimize your site for
Google’s search engine, however by following the above tips you
will get your site ready for Google searches fast and with
little effort. Make sure you know what you are doing, however,
because if not you might do more harm than good. Once you have a
clear understanding of what you need to do regarding links,
keywords, and registering your URL, you should have no problems

Google Website and Web Page Indexing for Dummies

You may have heard how important it is to have your website
optimized for search engines, especially Google, which is
currently the most popular worldwide. The reason for this is so
your website will be ranked high in the search engines and
people will see your site first, click on it, and increase your
traffic and ultimately your sales. You might think this all
sounds like a wonderful idea and want to get your web site
optimized for Google, but you may have no idea how to go about
it. Don’t worry, getting your web page ready for the Google
search engine is not as difficult as you might have thought.
Google has a system called PageRank™ that ranks the different
web pages according to different standards. When you learn the
standards you will know how to best optimize your page to get a
high ranking in Google.

Tip #1 Search Engine Spamming

If you want to get a long term, high ranking with Google it is
important not to spam. The reason for this is Google will
blacklist you from their index and not list your URL. Also, most
other web search engines operate the same way. Learn what is
considered as spamming so you can avoid doing this.

Tip #2 Links

The more links you have on the Web that point to your website
means the higher ranking you will receive on Google. This is
because Google gives preference to sites with more links on the
Web, so make sure you work hard to increase the links to your
website that exist on the Web.

Tip #3 Keywords

Keywords are another major consideration if you want to get a
high ranking with Google. The reason for this is that Google
searches for the keywords that are related to your website and
then ranks your website for those keyword phrases. If you have a
website that is optimized for many keywords related to your
niche, you’ll attract tons of free, targeted search engine
traffic.

Tip #4 Do not Use Frames

Google does not support websites with frames very well, so if
your website utilizes frames you run a risk that your site will
not rank well with Google or even get indexed at all. Get rid of
those frames if you want Google to list all of the pages on your
website!

Tip #5 More Text

Google searches for text, not photos or images. Make sure that
you keep your content keyword rich and accurate. Keep the
graphics to a minimum as well because the more images you have,
the less text you have, the fewer keywords Google will be able
to search for, and the longer your web pages will take to load.

Tip #6 Links

Make sure all pages within your site have their own URL or
otherwise Google will have problems picking up and ranking these
pages

Latent Semantic Indexing | SEO Traffic Spider

To put in a layman’s terms, latent semantic indexing (LSI) is a technique of indexing— analyzing, listing or categorizing certain keywords or phrases in the contents of various websites, books or documents in such a way that they have contextually and conceptually the same or related intent and meaning despite the different words used in them.

The technique used in latent semantic indexing aims at finding the keywords in the text that carry a latent relationship in structure and usage. The idea behind the concept of LSI is to collect data that is conceptually akin in meaning and context to the search queries entered by the searchers in the search engines. The search results may, therefore not share the specific words or phrases entered by the searcher.

For example, if you use the word ‘Saddam Hussein’, the search engine may return articles about the Gulf War, situation in Kuwait or Iran, the elite force of the Iraqi despot, UN sanctions, oil fields in Iraq and much more without even mentioning the search word ‘Saddam Hussein’.

The technique of LSI automates the process of categorizing the documents almost the way the human beings do. The text selected may not have the same words or sentences. The results returned may have lists, free notes, web content or even emails.

Advantages of latent semantic indexing

Sometimes the web searcher is conscious that he is not using the right keywords or phrases due to the lack of knowledge of appropriate vocabulary. He, therefore, uses only approximate words which may not return the desired information if the search process follows the Boolean pattern. Latent semantic index technique facilitates the retrieval of the related conceptual content even if the search queries do not use the ‘correct’ words.

Latent or true information

LSI technique returns information in its true conceptual representation, which is not easily possible through the traditional search approach. It uses synonymy that can bring forth the underlying concept even if the searcher uses different words or phrases. The traditional retrieval process does not always discover the right content on the same topic that uses different vocabulary.

Polysemy

A large number of words have multiple meanings. So, if a searcher uses numerous polysemous words, they may reduce the chances of getting the precise information. LSI helps to weed out the unnecessary words from the data and tries to arrive at the average meaning, which is close to the real meaning of the search queries.

Sifting close and distant words

LSI examines the contents of the different websites or documents and tries to find out which of these contain semantically common words, similar words, closer words or distant words. This is almost working like a human being. Although LSI does not understand the meanings of the words, its algorithm does notice the word patterns and indexes them accordingly. This process proves the astonishing intelligence of the LSI technique.

How should one use latent semantic indexing?

Latent semantic indexing is a very useful tool for search engine optimization of your website or copywriting.  You should, therefore, use the keywords and phrases very carefully. For example, if you are using the keyword or phrase ‘buy jaguar’ you should explain what the word ‘jaguar’ stands for since it is a polysemous word. It may mean a cat, a car or an aircraft. It may also be a brand name of some sanitary product.  Using the word ‘jaguar’ in isolation may confuse the LSI tool. You should, therefore, clarify what your ‘jaguar’ stands for. Otherwise, you will defeat the very purpose of launching your website.

You should also be careful in the use of synonyms so that they convey the meaning that you exactly want to communicate. Synonyms are very helpful in clarifying the meanings of the words. But stuffing keywords for making the site SEO compliant may also defeat the purpose and your site may be blacklisted for spamming.

What happens if one does not use latent semantic indexing?

The search engine spiders or the software is making a paradigm shift in selecting the sites for front-page ranking. Google and many other search engines use LSI to determine the relevancy of your keywords and phrases in context of the subject matter of the site’s content. If you do not use the keywords and phrases judiciously, you may not be able to optimize your site for high ranking. Not using the synonyms or theme related words may not help the LSI tool to identify your site’s relevance to the search queries. If your website is about barbeques, you should use words such as grill, patio, sauce, charcoal, recipe, etc which are related to the main keyword. If you do not use LSI, your site is doomed to stay unnoticed.

SEO Traffic Spider, is a global provider offering its customers a full suite of SEO solutions ranging from Indexing, Optimization – On Page/Off Page, Linking, SEO Copywriting, Site Overhauling, Traffic Analytics, etc.
