Blackberry 8110 Pearl Review – Same Difference?
Blackberry 8110 Pearl Review – Same Difference?
The 2007 release of the Blackberry 8100 Pearl certainly caught plenty of attention as it was the first of these Mobile Internet & E-mail mobile phones that strived to be a compact and accessible to more than just the business market.
This was mainly due to the unusual half-QWERTY keyboard that made the 8100 more like a standard bar phone in terms of appearance, thus broadening the appeal when compared to the normal Blackberry devices which were less than compact (putting it mildly).
With the new Blackberry 8110 Pearl, the Canadian manufacturers are clearly looking to consolidate and build on the relative success experienced by its predecessor.
The majority of the feature set from the older Pearl still remain; notably the lightweight design; Bluetooth 2.0 (no A2DP sadly); USB Port; microSD card slot and obviously the standard Blackberry E-mailing services.
What has been added to the above is built-in GPS for easy navigation and the camera has also been upped to 2 Megapixel. Admittedly not groundbreaking, but itâs a start.
Sadly still remaining, is the Blackberry customised user interface which may be good for some, but in my opinion is not particularly user friendly & far less easy to use than Windows Mobile. It is a little baffling to see why Blackberry are continuing to persevere with this when it would be much more sound business decision to update this more along the lines of the Windows, or even (dare I say it) the Apple UI.
Still present as ever, is the trackball navigation wheel which seems to have split opinion amongst users. Personally I feel that this is a very-good method of navigation, but implementation is slightly too loose and with a few software adjustments to this, it could easily become more popular and widely-used.
Overall, the Blackberry 8110 Pearl is a minor – and with the exception of the new GPS module & updated camera – almost unnecessary upgrade to the original Pearl. With possibly an upgraded UI, Wi-Fi, 3G and re-designed keyboard implemented this would be a worthwhile upgrade for owners of the original Pearl, but with so little being changed or tweaked, it is unlikely it would worth bothering with, unless you really want that GPS in your Blackberry.

How Targeting Can Make All The Difference With Online Advertising
How Targeting Can Make All The Difference With Online Advertising
One of the keys to successful online advertising is the level and sophistication of the targeting used. There are three main types of targeting: contextual targeting, behavioural targeting and yield targeting.
Contextual targeting which analyses the content of pages on the network to deliver the most relevant ads. Behavioural targeting profiles web users based on their navigation behaviour determined by anonymous cookies on their browser. Yield targeting optimises the campaigns in real-time to place ads on sites which are performing best in terms of click through or conversion
The typical approach to behavioural targeting starts by advertisers analysing user data and segmenting users in to discrete user groups. Each group is analysed and assigned a virtual profile. These profiles can be based around personas that give the website operators a starting point in terms of deciding what content, navigation and layout to show to each.
When it comes to the practical problem of successfully delivering the profiles correctly this is usually achieved by either using a specialist content behavioural platform or by bespoke software development, or analysing the profiles against yield data. This latter approach has proved successful.
Social media users now offer a new wealth of data previously difficult/impossible to gather. Data about friends, linkages, location, influences, and content created; from web, mobile and TV. Behavioural targeting is taking on a new remit, which is not just to focus on what you want, but what your friends want and how you influence them. This data is now in real time.
Many online watchdog groups are becoming increasingly concerned about the privacy rules around this type of targeting. Many advertisers try to contain this by using constraints to either keep the user information anonymous or by seeking permission.
One ad network has developed ‘cluster’ targeting. Clusters are created as with the above mentioned profiles. They are then subject to continual yield performance analysis and the clusters refined, to ensure clusters are perfectly segmented for behaviour and click through performance equally. This then takes behavioural targeting to a new level, one that is less based on theory but actual user behaviour and one that is already showing a +35% performance enhancement over normal behavioural techniques.
This new way of ad targeting means online advertising no longer need to experiment or blindly guess which sites or which times of day will work best for their campaign. They have a higher chance of running a successful campaign, where the system already knows when and where to place ads for optimal performance. This is particularly useful for smaller businesses that may not have the budget necessary to continuously experiment until they find the “right” websites to advertise on.
The latest developments are intended to help publishers increase their eCPM and also give advertisers better returns through better targeted campaigns, without the advertiser having to do anything different.

What’s the Difference between Kindle For Ipad and IBooks?
What’s the Difference between Kindle For Ipad and IBooks?
iBooks differ from Kindle for iPad in that the former allows you to deviate from the store and the reader, and Kindle does not have an integral store like iBooks. The nice thing about Kindle is that its store gives a more detailed classification of subjects compared to iBooks. While iBooks, for instance, only has one subject in “History”, Kindle holds 14 distinct categories under that subject alone.
Kindle for iPad holds its own and gives the reader innovative tools that facilitate reading, like the LED backlight screen, which can be reversed to having a black background with white text to relieve eye stress in reading for lengthy periods of time. This application can also mimic the amazing animation of pages, and can simultaneously alternate the screen from black to white and alter the font types and sizes to suit the reader.
The capacity to hide the status bar, which indicates signal and battery power, is another attribute uniquely inherent to the Kindle for iPad. This affords the reader the chance to concentrate and not be distracted in his readings. With the mere touch of the finger, the status bar reopens to serve you with the different settings available, including bookmarking and font setting options.
Kindle for iPad has a clear advantage from iBooks in terms of the quality and amount of ebook selections. This larger book option feature is joined by the previously mentioned features like the hidden status bar and the reversible text and background view, to make the Kindle for iPad application a most sought after deal.
The Kindle store has around 20% more books than Amazon’s 450,000 in stock. Kindle for iPad offers a much more public approach compared to iBooks as it does not show ornamental animations and graphics. The pages in the Kindle for iPad are shown singularly at every slide instead of the landscaped two page display of old. While it limits the font style of a book, it still offers options for screen brightness and font size manipulation. Readers are compelled to get downloads from the Kindle store over the Internet, and it is only through browsing that you can get your book selections.
While iBooks appear to have the better application, Kindle manifests to have the better program, but over the long haul, it entirely depends upon the requirements of the reader. This defines the functional aspects between the two applications. Should the reader require only reading, then the iBook is adequate enough. However, if the reader wishes to underscore topics and wants to scribble down notes, then the Kindle for iPad is the singular choice to make.
Reading and synchronizing books with a lot more tools is what gives the Kindle application more advantage over its counterparts. The Kindle for iPad affords the reader a chance to continue his readings, beginning say, at home or in the office, and then continue perhaps while commuting in the train or in the bus. Soon, this Kindle feature will be available to the iPhone application, but until then, using the Kindle for iPad is a most beneficial option to enjoy electronic reading to the max.

The Difference Between Marketing and Selling
The Difference Between Marketing and Selling
There is a lot of confusion about the differences between marketing and sales. Marketing is in fact the act of ‘bringing the product to market’. Selling is about closing a sale and turning a potential buyer into a customer. Closing a sale is also called a conversion.
Marketing is primarily about research – identifying potential buyers and then finding the best way to introduce your product to them. This usually involves some form of advertising. When you have identified the potential customers, marketers will develop what is called the ‘marketing message’ to try and reach them. The more this message resonates with what the prospective customers need or want, the more likely it is that you will be able to sell your product or service to them.
There are some advantages to online marketing as opposed to offline marketing. Marketers can perform market research using keyword searches or search engines, using various programs to help them. The marketers can get a lot of useful, real time data in this way about what people are looking for online and this is often free or very cheap to do. It is also extremely valuable information to have.
Marketing and sales do often overlap into what is called ‘the pitch’. This is how you deliver the marketing message and is how the marketing turns into the sale.
If the marketing has been done well, the message will be clearly delivered in the sales copy, ad copy or however you communicate with the customer. Building trust with the customer and presenting your message clearly is very important.
Selling is about overcoming objections. It is a one to one technique where the seller helps the buyer to reach a decision. As part of the marketing process, you need to uncover potential objections which might prevent someone buying what you have for sale. Selling is when all marketing research is applied at the point of sale. The better you know the customers’ potential objections, the better chance you have of making a sale to them.
Marketing is an art as well as a numbers game. The best marketers know how to reach prospective customers, which is more than just number crunching. They know how to make people tick and what makes them buy.
There is a huge focus on numbers when it comes to internet marketing. Thousands or even millions of potential customers will see an ad or receive an email. You might think that success is guaranteed when you advertise to so many people.
This is not altogether true. Just because you reach a lot of people does not necessarily mean a certain percentage of them will want to buy from you. You do need to get the marketing message to as many people as possible but it is also vital to make sure you are advertising to the right people.
Good marketing should disappear behind the ad copy and neat graphics. The marketing message should come through easily to motivate and interest the right people. If marketing is done well, the products can sell themselves.
