Old files that are not deleted. Old programs that have been installed, that are no longer used. Redundant software that still runs in the background and even starts on boot up. Even programs that you didn’t mean to install in the first place! They are all taking up valuable space, tying up your resources and inevitably causing your computer to run more slowly than it is capable of.</p>

<p>A few ideas to make your computer run faster</p>
<p>Uninstall unwanted programs</p>
<p>Think about what you would want to keep from your computer if you were buying a new one. This concentrates the mind wonderfully. You will find that you’ll probably only want to keep a few programs and the rest is photos and music files. So, most of the other stuff on your computer is junk. So start here. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Uninstall a Program. Have a look through the programs and right click “Uninstall” any of those you don’t need any more. You’ll find a lot of programs in there that you never knew you had. Apple is a company I find installs all sorts of extra junk with their downloads. If you’ve installed iTunes you’ll probably have 5 others that came with it. The same for Adobe – always installing some nonsense on your PC – they only have one good program and they bought that from someone else.</p>
<p>Anyway, uninstall what you don’t need and you’ve saved a whole heap of resources.</p>
<p>Clean up your start up folder</p>
<p>When you switch your computer on, it loads the BIOS and then Windows. Windows looks in the Startup folder to see what programs to boot up first. These are programs that you want to have access to as soon as possible. Except that’s not always the case….</p>
<p>Full of their own self importance and the importance of the software they have created, programmers instruct their software to write themselves into the Startup folder and boot up as soon as the Operating System is loaded.</p>
<p>Every program in that startup folder is going to take time to open. If you’ve got 10 in there, it’s no surprise you have time for a wash a change from when you switched your computer on until the time it’s ready to do any work.</p>
<p>Most of them do not need to be opened straight away. iTunes for instance. Other culprits are printing software like Epson, Google, the dreaded Adobe, mobile phone software such as Nokia, and web cam software. They can all start when you want to use them. They don’t need to be open by default.</p> 
<p>So, go to Start > Run and type ‘msconfig’ then click OK. Click the Startup tab then un-check the boxes next to any programs that you don’t want to run automatically when Windows starts. I suggest being fairly ruthless. Everything else is fair game. Just untick it.</p>

Also, since they don’t do any research or attempt to find out details about their prospects, they tend to have a generalized view of who they are marketing too and this leads to generalized marketing campaigns (which are never effective).

You will not be effective marketing your business if you generalize. When you generalize, you fail to speak directly to a particular audience, and as a result, NO ONE will listen to what you have to say.

Whether you are just starting out or you have an existing business, it is very important that you know the demographics and psychographics of your clients.

Demographics are all the tangible details about your clients: Age range, sex, income, education, # of children, own or rent, etc.

Psychographics are all the intangible details revolving around your clients likes and dislikes: interests, hobbies, places to hang out, favorite websites, businesses frequented, etc.

When you are just starting out and don’t have any past experience to base your answers off of, you’ll want to talk with potential clients and find out first hand details about their lives. You may also need to make educated guesses on certain categories and then update/tweak your answers after you get some experience with clients. You should make it a practice to always be re-evaluating your clients, your understanding of your clients, and your marketing. Constant tweaking will make your business efficient and adaptable.

To start, you’ll want to pick a target group that you want to service. Based on your judgement of your area, pick a target market that is in abundance. Are there more middle class, suburban, families in your area? Are there more small businesses? Are there older folks with lower income? Maybe you live by a huge wealthy community?

Decide which target market in your area you want to focus your business around based on what services you are planning on offering. If you start out offering virus removal, you will be most valuable to families with children. Children are major culprits to downloading viruses by mistake. If you start out offering network security and maintenance, you will be most valuable to small businesses with 3+ machines.

Evaluate where your strongest networking connections are in your community and what target market you think you’d have the easiest time breaking into.

After you decide who you want to target, you’ll want to talk with at least 5 or 6 people in that target market and ask them questions ranging from what kind of computer and how many computers they have, what software they use, what tasks they use their computer for (personal, work from home, etc.), what magazines they read, what websites they frequent, how much money they make, whether they are religious or not, what there hobbies are, etc. You’ll want to gauge the questions as you go. If a prospect seems to not feel comfortable sharing information about income, that’s ok. You could instead ask what income bracket
they fall into (e.g. – under k, k – k, k – 0k, etc.). They may feel more comfortable with that.

The more people you talk to, the more common trends you’ll see. You may also learn information you were not expecting. For instance, perhaps you will find out they go to the same church, or maybe love the same hobbies. Any characteristics that are commonly shared will give you more insight into who these people are, what is important to them, and what motivates them to buy. This will start to give you tons of places you can start marketing that you may never have imagined on your own.

This will also make your marketing more effective because you’ll know exactly who you want to get your message to, how to get your message to them, and what to say.

The two complaints I’ve heard the most are from the speakers and the mouse button. The speakers are somewhat terrible, I can’t stand to listen to certain songs on them becaue they’re so bad, but the sound quality through a good pair of headphones is fantastic. Basically, the speakers will suffice and are certainly nowhere near a deal-breaker. They are plenty loud, which is another complaint I heard. I just wouldn’t expect to hear them in the next room. As for the mouse button it is a little difficult to push. I find myself occassionally trying to push too close to the center of the rocker and not getting any response until I move closer to either end. However, if you’re like me and prefer to just tap the pad then it’ll work just fine. I doubt even a power-user would notice after awhile. The trackpad’s touch features are very nice as well. The swipes and scrolling work perfect for me. This is a well-built, solid performing, thin and light laptop that actually allows you to work all day without having to plug it in…and it’s 0 MSRP (also look up Acer Timeline on Bing and save when you buy from JR Computer World with Bing Cashback). You could easily spend ,000 on another system and get the same performance without the weight, construction, or battery life. It’s the best deal out there right now and for the performance junkies who want to do a little gaming I hear there’s a model coming with switchable discrete graphics. If you’ve never tried an Acer (like me), this is a good time to start.
