What Is Pay Per Click Marketing?

What Is Pay Per Click Marketing?

So you might be wondering exactly what is pay per click marketing and why do I hear so much about it. It is steadily becoming when of the quickest and most profitable forms of marketing available on the internet. It is used in all different areas including this website and more common website’s like MSN and Facebook. etc. So lets examine exactly what is pay per click marketing.

Pay Per Click marketing is the form of advertising where the owner gets charged a certain amount of money each time someone clicks on the ad they are running. Which means every time you click on an ad on a website it usually is costing someone else money. Now the amount of money is determined by the company running the ad.

Now the way you go about getting ads put onto a website is very simple and the two main companies that everyone uses are Google and Yahoo. You come up with a catchy slogan and have it approved by those sites and then it gets onto certain websites. You then have to choose the keywords that will trigger your ad to appear. This is where it gets tricky and where you have to do your research to choose the best keywords.

Keywords is what makes pay per click marketing because it separates each campaign. You can easily choose the keyword of the same topic you are promoting. The only problem with that is you are probably not the only one who thought of that. If that is the case then the amount of money you spend per click goes up and you are not guaranteed the first page results. If you decide to go after a keyword not used by many people and still gets a good amount of research you hit the money load. You will still get the traffic and you will not be charged a large amount. Now the charges can range from .01  to over .00 and that’s why it’s so important to do your research on keywords.

So what is pay per click marketing and how does it help with your internet business. To clarify once again it is one of the fastest internet techniques in the internet world today. If you do it correctly and do your research correctly you could see a very profitable campaign.

What Is Pay Per Click Marketing And How Can It Benefit My Business?

What Is Pay Per Click Marketing And How Can It Benefit My Business?

I could write a lot of pages, maybe even a book explaining what pay per click marketing is and what it can do for your business, but I will keep this short and to the point. Pay per click (ppc) marketing is an advertising platform in which you bid an amount of money that you are willing to pay for a click. When a searcher does a search at Google all of the ads on the right side of the screen are ppc ads. Google calls them sponsored listings. When a surfer types in a keyword, the advertisers who have bid on that keyword have their ads displayed. When one of the ads is clicked by the surfer he is taken to the advertiser’s website. The advertiser is charged at maximum, the amount they’ve bid. Most of the time they are charged less than what they have bid. But they are never charged more than their maximum bid.

The bids can start at 1 cent and depending on the market and the ppc search engine, go up to or more per click. When starting off I suggest bidding very low. Ten to fifteen cents per click or lower is a good start. The higher you bid the higher in the rankings your ad is shown therefore increasing your ad’s visibility and your potential visitors. The downside is bidding high can cost you a lot of money and in some cases bring you way over budget. Be very careful when bidding.

Bidding low might not get you as much traffic as bidding high but it will bring you traffic for much cheaper thus increasing your return of investment (ROI). One way to increase the amount of times your ad is shown (visibility) while bidding low, is to bid on a high volume of keywords. Some marketers bid on hundreds and up to hundreds of thousands of keywords.

This method will take some time. Putting together hundreds or thousands of keywords can be time consuming, but it is an effective strategy for getting quality traffic, without paying a lot of money. The more you work with the ppcs the faster you will get at putting together lists of keywords.

In case you’re not sure how to generate that many keywords there are many tools on the net that will help. Some are free and some charge money. One of the best free tools is offered by a company formerly named Overture, which has been bought out by Yahoo! This tool can be found here. http://inventory.overture.com

What can ppc marketing do for your business? Depending on your market, ppc marketing can be a great way to get quality traffic inexpensively, increasing your ROI and profit. It is also a great method for testing products because your ad can “go live” in as little as 15 minutes and up to 5 business days. Depending on which ppc search engine you use.

Advertising your business at free search engines a.k.a organic search engines can take weeks or even months for your website to be indexed in their directory. It can take a lot longer than that to get a decent ranking on your search terms. The more competitive the keywords you are trying to get listed, the harder it is to obtain a decent ranking. This is one reason why ppc search engines have a huge advantage over organic search engines.

I, as well as thousands of other marketers think the best two ppc search engines are Google Adwords and Yahoo! Search Marketing (formerly Overture). Google claims your ad can “go live” in 15 minutes but it usually takes a couple of hours. This is really fast. Yahoo! Usually takes a couple of days.

There are thousands of smaller ppc search engines. Some of them are good and some are not. Some will take your money but will not have many searchers. Google and Yahoo have hundreds of millions of searchers every day. If you think about using a smaller ppc do some research and find out what experiences other marketers have had. There are thousands of forums, newsletters, ezines and info sites dedicated to educating people about ppc marketing. You can learn a lot about Google Adwords, Yahoo! Search Marketing and a lot of the smaller (2nd tier) ppc search engines at these places.

You might be amazed at how many moneymaking opportunities there are online that revolve around the use of PPC (Pay Per Click) ads. Blogs especially are well noted for their creativity in placing and capitalizing on PPC ads.

For those business owners who may be inclined to use PPC ads as part of their marketing strategy this is good news. Many web users have turned to PPC as a way to make a little money doing something they already love to do.

These motivated bloggers are essentially offering their blogs to use in the marketing of your products and services. They might never talk about you on their blogs, but they accept niche oriented PPC ads to help pay for their site or earn a little residual income.

In a recent bout of research I encountered more than two-dozen fairly high profile moneymaking ideas that blended blogging with PPC. In some cases this meant the blogger had to sign up and blog for someone else or it meant sharing revenue generated from placing code on a blog that allowed PPC ads to be placed there.

In some cases PPC ads pay per click. They might also pay be thousand clicks or by sale or qualified lead.

For both the blogger as well as the business owner there can be many things they will need to learn while working to make Pay Per Click a cost effective means of marketing a website or to maximize earnings potential.

The growth of this type of advertising is a pretty strong indicator that it is an effective advertising tool. The implementation of PPC also tells us that bloggers are finding that it can provided them with enough return that they want to continue using the program.

If you are a blogger and you want to know more about programs that can allow you to make some money by using PPC all you need to do is use your favorite search engine and look for things like ‘moneymaking’ and ‘PPC’.

Businesses are also faced with an abundance of choice. All you need to do is type in PPC or Pay Per Click and you will have plenty to consider as well.

I will always advocate strong SEO (Search Engine Optimization) as a better alternative to PPC, but if you are going to use this type of marketing you really do need to learn as much as you can to improve the chances of success.

You should not view this or any other singular marketing strategy as the holy grail of your marketing endeavors. Feel free to experiment a little and find a variety of strategies that work in tandem to create a tailor-made plan that propels your business to the place you need it to be.

A similar approach can be adopted by bloggers. Test a variety of PPC revenue programs. You may find a company you enjoy working with, but you may also find that you can learn the skills you need to bypass a third party and manage a higher rate of return dealing with primary PPC ad placement services.

Add Pay Per Click to Your Online Marketing Mix

Add Pay Per Click to Your Online Marketing Mix

Pay per click (PPC) advertising is the hottest and perhaps most effective way for many Internet advertisers to reach their intended audiences. It is a marketing device that should be included in the tool box of any company which has or plans to have a presence on the net. The keys to pay per click are deciding what type of clicks to use and how to make sure that each click targets the audience a company wants to reach.

PPC advertising falls into two categories: Pay per click search engines and ads that potential customers can click on (so called clickable ads). Search engines based on the PPC model charge an advertiser a fee for the ranking it receives when a particular term (keyword) is searched. The more popular a keyword is the higher the price for an advertiser’s website to appear on the returned search list. Advertisers who pay the most will have their products and services appear at the head of the list given back to the person who initiated the search. Clickable ads appear on websites which have content similar to that of the ads. A customer perusing the website will see advertisements of interest and perhaps click on them. The advertiser pays only when a potential client clicks on that advertiser’s ad. Some PPC advertising companies are also experimenting with clickable ads where the advertiser pays only if a customer clicks on the ad and makes a purchase as well. Both of these styles of PPC advertising have advantages. An astute Internet advertiser will examine each type to determine which is best for its business. It is often possible that a combination of the two models will give a company the most bang for its advertising buck.

How can a company go about comparing the many pay per click advertising platforms and deciding which one is best suited to its needs? A company must first research the PPC search engines and clickable ad programs available; then it is wise to make a small investment to test those programs which seem viable. When choosing a program, biggest may not always be best. Some companies will benefit from casting a wide net with a large company. Other businesses may be better served by working with smaller advertising entities that specialize in niche markets. Remember too that a company doesn’t have to pay the highest price to be placed on a PPC search engine return page. Companies are placed on the page in descending order from the highest to the lowest bidder. Holding a place on the first or second search page may produce significant return at a lower cost.

Once an advertiser has decided to use a pay per click search engine or to place a series of clickable ads, a test run is advisable. Like all advertising companies, PPC advertising is based on a set budget. A company establishes an account and each time a potential client clicks on the keyword or the ad, an amount is deducted from the advertiser’s account until it is depleted. A company should set up small accounts with several PPC companies which seem appropriate for its needs. After setting up the accounts the advertiser then needs to devise something on its website to track how many visitors it receives from each company. PPC companies themselves will offer the advertiser a list of visitors who clicked through on their advertising but these lists may not provide a company with sufficient information for making an informed decision about the success of its advertising. A company wants to know not just that it received visitors but that the visitors were actual potential customers, not just idle surfers.

All in all, PPC advertising represents a viable and cost effective form of advertising. Most businesses will discover that either PPC search engines or clickable ads or a savvy combination of the two will increase traffic to their sites. So resolve today to make a small investment of time and money to find the PPC solution that will enable your company to enhance its Internet presence.

History in the making of Pay Per Click search engine marketing

History in the making of Pay Per Click search engine marketing

For the past 5+ years Paid Search Advertising also known as Pay Per Click and PPC has gained a immeasurable amount of recognition in the search engine industry. Whilst the traditional search engine optimization still remains the number one online marketing strategy, an immense amount of marketers have now discovered the potential of online advertising campaigns. With properly designed and managed PPC campaigns it will guarantee any business an increase in traffic.

Within the boom in search engine optimization and paid search engine advertising a lot of changes have occurred in search engines. All the common names that we hear today is Google, Yahoo!, MSN, Bing etc. With the big names to appear the smaller search engines are slowly dying out. To name a couple that no longer exist is “FindWhat”, “kanoodle” and “ePilot”. Furthermore choosing the right search engines is no longer a problem, just look for the big names.

1. Quick Overview

Pay Per Click (PPC) search engines are built like a bidding network, just like auctions. You are bidding against your competitors for specific, related keywords for more traffic i.e. customers. Keywords are one of the most important components in paid search engine advertising.

The concept of PPC bidding is pretty simple, you bid on the keywords that best relate to the product you are selling. The highest bidder either through position bidding (you choose your keywords and the search engine will give you the position according to the maximum cost per click) or the most relevant ad gets placed at the top of the search results, but you only have to pay the amount you bid if someone clicks through to your website.

Compared to organic search engine optimization (or SEO), the biggest advantage with PPC is that it allows you to target to large amount of targeted keywords that SEO is unable to achieve. You can target hundreds thousands or even millions of keywords.

By advertising with PPC search engines it gives you three key advantages:

The fastest and most effective way to gain traffic

By choosing the most relevant keywords that relates to the products or service you are selling, you are already targeting to the right type of customers. You have full control of how much your are willing to bid for the visitor who is going to visit your website. PPC search engines cheaply directs qualified visitors to you, to your business.

Exposure and immediate profits

Search engine optimization usually takes 2-6 weeks or even months to list your website onto a search engine. To see quick profitable results then PPC is the best alternative. Most PPC search engines will set your website live either within a couple of hours or maximum a few days. You will definitely see results and sales practically immediately.

Guaranteed Top Position

If PPC is not for you then the free way to get to the top position is search engine optimization. But it is quite daunting to know if you have chosen the correct keywords and have optimized your website enough so that it will show on search engines. You will either be successful or not successful and it will take a lot of applied hours. Again PPC is the easiest solution to gain high ranking and gain a return on investment. Generally the best way is to bid on the most popular keywords but this will be higher in price. You can either start your bid from 1 cent per click or pay .00+ for more competitive keywords.

2. Successful PPC Campaigns

To get started on a successful PPC campaign the logic behind it is “attract and gain as much traffic as possible and keep your bids as low as possible”. You know you are paying for each and every visitor visiting your website, so it is clear you must make sure you maximise the effectiveness of your PPC campaign. Below are some basic guidelines to help optimize your campaign and ensure your return on investment.

Good Campaign Structure

To have a good campaign structure you need to plan what you are selling and apply it to the most efficient keywords. A campaign structure consists of your account which is like your store (website), then you have your campaigns (what you are selling/ categories) and then you have your adgroups (keywords that are distinctive to sell your products).

Focus on highly targeted keywords

As mentioned earlier, PPC Advertising is the most cost effective way to target traffic to your website. To maximise your bidding campaign make sure you choose the right keywords you wish to bid on. The key with choosing the right keywords is to be very specific. For example, instead of bidding on “dog collars” you can consider bidding on “dog flee collars”. Keep in mind you want to target to attract qualified buyers. It will be easier to convert them into paying customers because they have found exactly what they are looking for. And sometimes more specific keywords tend to be less expensive than the general keywords that your competitors are bidding on.

Good Landing Page

A landing page is the first page of your website to appear when you click on your ad. You have be careful you are not leading your visitor to irrelevant information to what they are looking for. The page should have consistent information to the advertisement. Try to minimize the amount of clicks that have to be made to the purchasing page.

Customize your advertisements

To attract more attention from qualified buyers, you need to be able to write your ads specifically for each of the keywords you bid on. Think about the type of visitor that we end up looking at your website. An example is: instead of writing an ad for “pies” you can write “home made meat pies”.

Quality Score

A Quality Score is where the AdWords system calculates if your keywords are matching to your ad. This has been put in place so that the more relevant ad shows up first in search results. In general, a high Quality Score means that your keyword will trigger ads in a higher position and at a lower cost-per-click (CPC). So to get the best result you have to gain a higher Quality Score and then your costs will be lower and your ad position will be better.

Relevant Ads

Your ad is consisted in three parts, the heading, your description and your URL. Make sure your heading is describing what you are targeting to sell, your description relates to the product or service and the URL which doesn’t have to be the same URL as your home page for your website. You may want to target to either a language or a location.

Bidding Strategy

To control over spending you need to have a bidding strategy. Position bidding is one option to look out for. Position bidding means bidding on a specific position on search engines. After choosing your competitive keywords, in order to maintain a certain position you need to keep changing your max CPC (cost per click) because of the competition. The second option is ROI Bidding. There are two categories, ROAS (Return on acquisition spending) and CPA (Cost per acquisition spending). ROAS is suitable for businesses if they want to see direct sales and CPA is used to generate more leads.

Tracking and ROI Measurement

Tracking is where you can monitor your clicks to see if they are converting to sales. Of course you want to see if sales are being generated from your PPC campaign. Tools you can use are Google Analytics or Yahoo Web Analytics. By using either of these tools you will also be able to calculate your ROI (Return on Investment).

3. Managing your PPC Advertising Campaign

Now that you have designed a killer selling ad copy, chosen highly targeted keywords, calculated the maximum you can afford to bid on each of search terms and determined which spot on the search results you wish to secure. We can now concentrate on the tools that will simplify the remaining steps.

The aim is to manage the desired position of your ad and adjust your bids correctly in accordance to the PPC market conditions. It’s like monitoring shares on the share market, to get the best deal you need to constantly watch prices and react immediately to any change. Your competitors are what to watch out for. Keep an eye on the price of bids and your position.

(a)  Maintain Target Position

Maintaining your target position is not so much a hassle when it comes to using a automated bid management software. Bid Management software will automatically adjust your maximum CPC (cost per click) and will do its best to maintain your target position so you don’t have to constantly monitor it yourself. Be sure that you can set your upper limit, to give you full control of your bids. An example is you do not want to spend more than .00 on a competitive keyword, bid management software will keep adjusting the bids to aim at your target desired position and will not go over your chosen upper limit.

(b) Control your Maximum Cost per Click

As mentioned earlier in this article, the calculation of your maximum bid cost (cost per click) requires you to collect a list of statistics about your website. Based on our assumption, you are willing to pay maximum of .00 per click. Therefore you should not pursue any positions where the bids are over your .00 limit.

To get the most accurate bidding results without having to baby-sit your advertising campaign, I would recommend relying on one of the automated bid management software available on the market today. In general, those tools constantly check your bids and adjust them accordingly to maintain your desired position so that you don’t have to be alert 24/7.

The more sophisticated tools allow you to set your daily budget to prevent spending more than it is efficient for your business. Below I have listed the main features you should be looking for when choosing the bid management software for your campaign:

- Create new campaigns, adgroups and keywords easily

- The ability to create and identify targeted keywords and phrases that convert leads in sales.

- The ability to set the maximum and minimum amount your want to bid.

- The ability to set your desired position.

- the ability to compile comprehensive reports on your keywords, bidding cost, bid position and current bid for each keywords.

- Easy bulk updating

- Simple campaign conversion, update to Google, Yahoo!, MSN.

- The ability to change keyword match types, find out what you are doing right or wrong with your chosen keywords.

If you would like to download a FREE demo version of bid management software, there is one available at http://www.keywordbidmaximizer.com/bidmaximizer. It will help you understand the whole process of designing and maintaining PPC campaigns so you can always manage your campaigns cost-effectively and allocate your budgets and increase your revenue.

Paid Search Advertising presents an excellent opportunity to immediately address your offers to the proper online audience. Focus on identifying highly targeted keywords that convert for your website. Calculate your bids so your sales justify the cost. This way you will maximize your return on investment and ensure your website’s success with PPC advertising.
