With little or no awareness of the collective strength of the generation, lack the networks and connections that are needful to influence institutions and the power to bring about beneficial changes, generation X suffers from a huge void of leadership crises.
According to authoritative sources, the baby boomers fuelled by over anxiety for early economic development have downsized and marginalized training and development programs and left little focus on the transfer of hard knowledge, institutional knowledge, relationships and networks — all key factors in preparing leaders and building leadership. The untrained and un-mentored generation X is yet able to maneuver and survive in the workplace. No institutionalized grooming or mentoring helped them do this, but their own creative energies motivated them to action. It is true that the world is soon to witness an open generation conflict. The boomers cannot and will neither transfer knowledge and leadership traits to the generation X, nor will the younger generation will ask for the same. Borne of the self-esteem movement of 90’s this new generation is habituated to frequent and appreciative feedback. Though considered to be technically sophisticated they are dependent on someone to give them oversight. This situation throws out immense challenges for employers who will confront a complex, and chaotic workplace. At the workplace, they display enthusiasm and curiosity to grow and develop, and expect career track provisioning, supervisory oversight, and regular appreciative acknowledgment. They tend to be civically minded and want to work towards defined goals and objectives. The millennial(s) are different from generation X by lacking in self-reliance skills and the baby boomers by not being self-absorbed.
The demographic shift and its cataclysmic fall-out is prominently seen in US and other developed nations. In the developing world, prominent differences are emerging in terms of technology impact, and the rising urban-rural divide. Global organizations and industry can adequately counter the challenges of demographic shift by identifying the importance of leadership training, and by creating avenues for network and relationship building among the younger generation of employees. A better strategy would be to run focus groups with younger Boomers, generation X and incoming millennial(s) to determine the required knowledge, skills, and support in the coming years.
Training is vital, and training is inevitable to save global industry from the fall out of demographic shift. The trainers are none other than experienced personnel that are highly motivated to take youngsters under the wing, help them, and share with them contact and network information and provide gainful and knowledgeable inputs. It is to be understood that, it is only leaders who can train youngsters and turn them into leaders. Any invest in the long-term future of global industry means investing sizably in training. The unintentional mistakes made by the baby boomers by neglecting and marginalizing training and development need to be addressed and redressed, the earlier the better.

Using demographic language the people who belong to the baby boomer generation are the children of the silent generation (born prior to 1945) and the parents of generation X (born 1965-1981). The baby boomer generation has exerted significant influence on the trends seen in modern societies simply because of the pressure of their population mass!
Born between 1946 and 1964 the baby boomers got this name simply because there was a population explosion following the second world war. Their parents (the slient generation born before 1945) were happy that the second world war was now over and their was a renewed sense of optimism that that focused on families and creating homes to raise children. The resulting baby boom bulged the demographic profiles of many countries and the cohort of individuals born between 1946 and 1964 began aging together.
So what has this got to do with clutter?
The generation cohorts are influenced by the significant social, political, and economic trends of their formative years and during this time the attitudes, values and beliefs that influence their way of thinking are formed. In relation to “clutter ” the two influences that would exert the most pressure would be the home and the pop culture you grew up in. Therefore it becomes necessary to understand how each generation has brought these influences to bear on the clutter control habits now being seen in contemporary homes.
It all started with the silent generation. They are the parents of the baby boomers and the grandparents to generation X ( born 1965- 1981). The silent generation is sometimes called the veteran’s demographic because the people in this generation were greatly influenced by the first and second world wars as well as the great depression.
With a strong view of authority influenced by the military model that suggested “duty before self”, the silent generation may to this day have difficulty with assertiveness such as saying no.
They grew up with very little variety or choices in consumable goods and were limited to what was available within walking distance of their home. Along with the purchase of goods was the expectation that the purchased item would last as long as it was needed. The silent generation grew up with the belief that if you throw something away you are a bad person because you are wasteful. Therefore throwing things away is not an option.
The mantra of the silent generation would be “Make it last, wear it out, use it up, or do without”
Over a lifetime the persistent pattern of thinking in the parents of the baby boomer generation led to the accumulation of more and more material goods in the home. Up to this point the silent generation had no need to devdevelop clutter control skills so they began accumulating more and more material goods as their prosperity continued.
The accumulation of goods was a defining characteristic in the homes that the baby boomers grew up in. This was a measure of success and reflected the growing economic prosperity of their parents as well as the changes in the variety of goods and services now available to them and marketed through the media.
The baby boomer gneration was probably the first generation with a realistic expectation to “do better” than their parents! Unfortunately they never learned from their parents how to purge their possessions or even how to be happy without them. In other words they never developed the clutter control habits necessary to achieve a balance in the flow of material goods into and out of their homes.
The clutter in the homes of baby boomers and their families is the direct result of the emotional attachment to their stuff and the lack of skill in managing it. The clutter epidemic suggests that there is a legacy from the 1900’s that is still exerting its influence in the homes of the baby boomers and their children !

Microsoft has tried before with MSN Search and Live Search without success and no threat to Google at all.
Microsoft is charging ahead according to Wall Street Journal with a more effective search engine because it searches deeper into the web pages to find the search string you look for.
The name is supposed to be an important key to success as well. The name BING is short and easy to say and will work worldwide on all types of domains says Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.
The advertisement budget is on around 100 million Dollars, and we just have to wait and see how effective it will be and how well received the search engine Bing will be.
So if you can not Google it, Microsoft will help you bing it to you!

The question is what do you want and how do you want it? Harvesting the web for information has been around us for decades now. However, its been a changing arena with various engines to achieve this for us and now the market leader Google has been our main provider for some years. Will it last? My answer to this is a clear no. The competitors are arriving and will provide the information harvesters amongst us with more comprehensive tools in near future, and some are already there for us.
The latest news is that Microsoft will launch its new search engine called Bing on June 3, and prepares to compete more effectively with Google. I question that Google is the main competition at the moment or should be regarded as the main competitor when it comes to harvesting information on the web and other sources. While Google invented the advertising-based search model, which produces most popular items for each query, Microsoft is aiming to change the search game by calling Bing a âdecision engineâ , which will offer more insights to users for helping them take decisions, and not necessarily throw the most popular and relevant items. âWe are introducing a new level of organization to search results, and our differentiator will be the best results for query,â Satya Nadella, senior vice- president (R&D , online services division) Microsoft told the media.
So Google are getting more competitors by the day, are they for real or will they just vanish into the shadow like the rest of them? Will Google be the king of the hill for the foreseen future, or will it meet its make sooner or later?
