Sony VAIO SR Series Review
Sony VAIO SR Series Review
Deftly balancing work and play, the 13.3-inch Sony vgp-bps8 offers enough style and power for everyone from home users to students to road warriors. And with a price tag of ,359 (starting at ,049), this notebook offers a good combination of graphics power and battery as sony vgp-bps9 life, making it a value-priced alternative to the 13-inch VAIO Z Series (starting at ,739) for executives. We especially appreciate the versatile Switch mode feature, which lets you customize shortcut buttons based on how you use the notebook. The webcam could be better, and we wish there was less preloaded software, but, overall, the VAIO SR is a great value.
Design
Compared with the pricier VAIO Z series as —a 3.4-pound notebook that sports an all-aluminum keyboard and carbon fiber housing for its LCD panel—the VAIO SR seems fairly basic, but we generally like this machine’s design given its price point. The SR features a magnesium alloy chassis that weighs a relatively light 4.2 pounds and measures 12.4 x 9.2 x 1.3 inches, making it a good travel companion. In fact, this system is one of the lighter 13-inch notebooks in its price range. Certainly, the SR felt lighter in our hands than the 4.5-pound 13-inch Apple MacBook, although that aluminum unibody machine has a slimmer 1-inch profile. The similarly priced Dell as has a more luxurious wedge-shape design, complete with leather accents, but is even heavier at 4.8 pounds.
While the lid is smooth, the sides and bottom have a rough, sandpapery feel. The version we tested comes in standard black, but you can opt for Glossy Pink, Platinum Silver, and Titanium Gray in the configure-to-order model.
Multiple Personalities
The seven buttons on the circular hinge area above the keyboard are unique to the SR’s design. The switch mode button (furthest to the left), lets you switch among three desktop environments (Home, Office, or On The Go). Depending on which environment is selected, the five buttons in the center activate various applications, which as appear as icons in the lower center of the screen.
In Office mode, for example, the icons are Mute, Lock Computer, Computer asPresentation Support, and Windows Meeting Space. Home mode has icons for VAIO MusicBox, Movie Story, ArcSoft Webcam Companion, Burn Disc, and Internet Explorer. All of these buttons can be mapped for different applications using the Setting button on the right.
Keyboard and Touchpad
While other notebook makers have just begun to adopt the island-style keyboard, has been doing it for years—and at this point, the company has it down pat. The keyboard, in a recessed area of the deck, provided good feedback and no flex, and was comfortable to type on for extended periods.
The large touchpad ashas a gray-and-white spotted pattern that distinguished it from the rest of the deck. Although the pattern looks textured, it’s actually as smooth as the rest of the chassis. It, too, was very comfortable and had low friction. The two mouse buttons, separated by a fingerprint reader, provide strong tactile feedback, but are a bit noisy.
Ports and Webcam
On the left side are VGA, HDMI, and FireWire ports, along with an ExpressCard/34 slot. On the front are an SD Card slot and a Memory Stick Pro slot, which features lenovo/IBM’sproprietary MagicGate encryption technology.
The right side houses the 8X DVD+/-RW drive, two USB ports, and Ethernet and modem jacks behind a removable flap. The power button, built into the right side of the hinge, glows green when the system as is powered on.
Although the colors were pleasant, the 1.3-megapixel webcam took dim, not-very-sharp still photos. Our VGA video, too, was dim and soft, but at least all of the movement looked fluid and the picture stayed in focus as we moved closer to the lens.
The ArcSoft WebCam Companion software’s white-and-blue interface isn’t the sleekest, but its task-oriented main screen makes it easy to navigate. When you finish snapping or recording a capture, you’ll see a thumbnail as in a pane to the left. A separate dashboard allows you to adjust the lighting, contrast, and saturation settings (among others) on a sliding scale, as well as apply fun filters, begin face tracking, and insert 2D frames.
Motorola Krzr K1 – Designed to Excel
Motorola Krzr K1 – Designed to Excel
Another four – lettered bombshell from the house of Motorola, the Motorola KRZR K1 is a sensational device. The handset comes wrapped in good looks and places itself decently between the fashion phones and other serious devices.
The KRZR K1 comes with a narrower frame as compared to its predecessor, the RAZR. Its narrow frame has a hardened blue glass finish at the top, while the back borrows a matte feel of the PEBL. And at the bottom are perforated dimples, to give the phone a modern look. The device’s magnesium and polished chrome composition adds to the solid and well built construction – thus providing a good feel when held in hands, or placed against the ears. To accommodate the narrow frame, the Motorola KRZR K1 comes with narrow keypad and narrow internal display. But thankfully the trimming down did not spoil the user experience. With the 1.9-inch internal display, the device maintains the same brightness at 65,536 colours and 176×220-pixel resolution. Perhaps the only disappointment in the designing flaw is that the device is really prone to finger prints.
The Motorola KRZR K1 has bumped up the camera sensor to 2 Megapixels from the RAZR’s 1.3 Megapixel shooter. And that’s about it. For the camera comes sans photo light and auto focus. There is also no dedicated camera icon in the first-level menu grid. The user interface of the camera is kept simple. There is an indicator about remaining photo that can be taken, self timer, storage media, camera and video mode, self timer, zoom, and an animated D-pad to allow changes in settings for Colour Style, Lighting Conditions, 8x digital zoom, Exposure. Besides, there are options for editing. The video mode shoots clips with sound at 15fps.
For music, the device comes with a good music player. It can support popular music formats like MP3, AAC and AAC+ files. Multimedia A2DP profile is supported, so music on the phone can be streamed wirelessly to a stereo Bluetooth headset.
Other features of Motorola KRZR K1 are pretty straightforward. The device is a quad-band, and it offers the versatility of EDGE, USB, Bluetooth, GPRS and WAP. There are many messaging options like SMS, MMS and email; while its also features a comprehensive organizer list. Motorola KRZR K1 offers 20 MB of memory and 6 hours of talk time.

Can’t Wait To Have Kindle 2 Electronic Book Reader
Part of our old days memories are those times when we spend time going to a leading bookstore to choose the best book for us and that book is usually printed and hardbound. We turn over the pages of those books to be able to know what we want to know. Nowadays with the advancement of technology, to Buy Amazon Kindle electronic book readers are made available for our convenience. Indeed, eBook Reader really makes reading more modernized and a great experience for the people.
It is appropriate for us to say thanks to Amazon for developing Kindle, an electronic book reader that pulled us out from dealing with paper-made books to read. Eventually, with more technical demands and with the limitations of the first Kindle, they also designed Kindle 2.
The latter Kindle features a much improved performance, better internal memory, built-in speakers and the text-to speech audio reading addition. That really sounds great, isn’t it? That is not all. In Kindle 2, you will also experience the use of a great keyboard since it’s designed for an easier use with keys in circular shape and the space bar that was made longer. Another feature of this kind of Electronic Book Reader is its use of e-ink technology which enables words and letters to appear like those ones that you can read from the printed books. Another feature that you can take advantage of is what they call Whispernet. That refers to the free built-in wireless connection that Kindle 2 offers. With Whispernet, it will be easier for you to download those books straight from Kindle store and you don’t have to worry for a longer waiting time since those files will be sent to your machine in just few minutes.
In addition to the features previously mentioned, there are still a lot to mention. In appearance, Kindle 2 is slim, as thin as most magazines and is lighter than a typical paperback. You also don’t have to worry on frequent charging since it has 25% longer battery life than Kindle which means that you can read for days without worrying on your battery status. It can hold as much as 1,500 books and has plenty of newspapers, magazines and blogs available. Earn Cash With Your Digital Camera

I am writing this article in December 2008. In the economic crises we are now facing, it can be very difficult to make enough money to pay the bills. Many people are being laid off, and finding work is becoming more and more difficult. One way is to start your own home based photography business using your digital camera. If you own a good quality digital camera, you can start your own home photography business. Wedding Photography is an approx. Billion per year industry.
You can make an excellent at home with your digital camera and shooting weddings on weekends. Do you love taking photos of family and friends? Do your family come to you for photo advice? Then you can start your own business taking wedding photos on weekends. Wedding photography can be a very lucrative part time or full time career. In the United State alone, the Wedding Photography industry accounts for approx., Billion per year. That’s a very large market. And with some know how and a decent digital camera, you can be a part of this industry. All you need is a course that includes business forms, technical discussions, sample ads and business cards, and even tips on using Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Apple’s Aperture.
In this article, I will explain some technical considerations of picture taking. Available light photography and many people often have questions about the aperture and how to use it effectively.
Available light photography is pretty much as the term says. You take photos using just the available light in the scene. You do not use the flash on the camera or other portable light sources. However, by using s reflector, you can redirect, or model, the light to give a more pleasing and natural effect. In my blog, the address is below in the resource box, you will see some sample photos, including a scene from a wedding which does not use a flash.
If you look carefully at the photo, you will notice some very obvious things about the light. Overall, the light is very even right across the whole image, including the background of the image. This is because the light is bouncing off the walls of the church and lighting the whole scene. A flash on the other hand, will only light a small part of the scene, usually just the bride. The problem with flash is that it will product a lot of hard shadows both on the bride and dress, and also on the background. With flash, you would normally see a big shadow of the bride on the wall in the background. By using available light, you eliminate this shadow. Also, the shadows on the brides face are also very soft.
Now, the biggest problem with available light photography, is that the exposures are usually much longer, and so there is more opportunity for the subjects to move a create a blurred image, thus negating all the advantages. So, you need to let people know that this is a special lighting effect and that they need to stay very still for the exposure. The image shown in the blog, had a shutter speed of a quarter of a second. Photographically speaking, that is a long time. Most exposures will be in the order of a hundredth of a second or more, which will freeze the movement of most subjects (maybe not very active children) and give you a nice pleasing photo as a result.
We need to consider two things to when using available light to get correct exposures. One is, as we mentioned, the shutter speed, and the other of course, is the aperture.
Lets take a look at how a correct exposure works. The shutter speed, in a wedding for instance, will freeze the movement of the subjects, so that the images appear sharp and pleasing to the eye. So, the shutter speed determines how long the light affects the sensor on the camera, and the aperture affects how much light hits the sensor. So the combination of how much light hits the sensor for how long determines by the shutter speed, gives us a correct exposure.
The secondary effects of the shutter speed is the amount of movement shown on the image. A fast shutter speed will show no movement, and a slow shutter speed will cause a blur of the image, either from the movement of the subject or by not holding the camera perfectly steady.
The secondary effect of the aperture is how much of the image is in sharp focus. With either shutter speed or aperture, a lot of people get confused about the numbers involved. The aperture shown on a camera lens is usually shown as f5.6 or f8 etc. The confusing part for many photographers, is that the larger the f number, the smaller the lens opening. But do not let the numbers confuse you. The numbers are only written this way because of space constraints. The number is really a fraction, and every number technically should be written with a one on top of the number. So, f8 is really f and 1 over 8. And f16 is really f 1 over 16, or a sixteenth. What this means is that each stop downs, halves the amount of light coming through the lens.
The effect of closing down the aperture this way, is that the smaller the aperture, the larger the depth of field. In other words, the smaller the aperture, more of the image will appear in focus. So, when shooting portraits, we usually want a shallow depth of field, so that the background does not affect the appearance of the subject. But as we adjust the aperture, by letting more or less light reach the sensor, we have to adjust the shutter speed to allow the light to be on the sensor for a longer or shorter period to make a correct exposure.

Verizon’s Blackberry Curve Vs Sprint’s Bb Curve
Verizon’s Blackberry Curve Vs Sprint’s Bb Curve
The battle of the smart data mobile phones has never been tougher, especially when two different phone companies share internet-ready mobile phones which are made by the same manufacturer but have different styles, this is the case of Verizon’s Blackberry Curve vs the Sprint Blackberry Curve version.
If you have ever had the chance of comparing these two devices side by side you will notice that they are physically similar, however there are some key differences, Verizon’s version sports a gray finish and Sprint’s uses a sleek black finish which seems to appeal to most people. This type of phones attract customers who are used to checking their email messages, their stock quotes and favorite sites on a daily basis, users who do not access the web and email applications that much would be better off with another mobile phone model.
The first thing you notice about these devices is how different they look, with the Sprint version sporting a darker titanium finish and the Verizon version going with the more conservative liquid-silver aesthetic.
The Blackberry Curve sold by Sprint sports a darker titanium finish and Verizon’s version uses a conservative liquid silver look, recent polls and blog feedback have shown that people seem to prefer the Sprint version when it comes to looks. The way the icons are arranged when a user turns on the device is also a difference between the two and again Sprint’s version comes on top. Verizon’s icon arrangement is more traditional, Sprint’s icons seem to be more animated and placed vertically on the left hand side of the screen.
The backgrounds and images can be customized on both so if you decide to go with Verizon you won’t be stuck with just one default background or animation type, however Sprint’s version of the Blackberry Curve seem to aim a younger audience who are attracted to neat graphics and style.
A major improvement seen in the Blackberry Curve (for both carriers) is that there are two new applications installed which allow users to record video as well as audio notes to its memory or to the removable microSD card. Both models are GPS ready and have EV-DO connectivity along with a 3.5mm audio jack. The web browser font size has also been modified for easy to read messages.
As always the one with the last word is the consumer, who must decide between stylish looks and the benefits of the network they are signing up for, besides the service is all a matter of tastes and personal preferences.
