STEP ONE: KEYWORD RESEARCH – The base of marketing online

It’s the most tedious part of the game, without this, your website is invisible to the search engines. I use an specific strategy which brings me very good result and i will share it with you, if there’s someone there with new techniques or some tips about researching keywords, please feel free to share it with us.

First of all you should find a main keyword: a main keyword is usually composed of 2  or 3 words, some examples could be : internet marketing, home improvement, online marketing, make money online, etc.

Once you find the term you are looking for, make a list of 5 or 10 main keywords and go to google keywords tool

On the main box tipe your main keyword and in advanced options set the options for all languages and all countries, in the filter keywords option you must set the global monthly search more than 1000 ( you want to target keywords with high volume of serach per month.

Hit the search button and it will come up with ideas for keywords, these are called “long tail keywords”, which are usually composed of 3 or more words, these are the keywords we are looking for

You can download these to your computer in Excel format.

From this point you should have a list of keyword ideas to start working with.

Open your list of keywords and start reviewing each one, go for the ones with more than 1000 searches per month and copy and paste in google, now we are gonna take a look in 2 numbers, first the number of pages that appears when you type in your keyword from the list, and second, the number it appears after you put that keyword in quotes (example : “Jay Kubassek”)

Now, putting the keyword between quotes will bring the exact number of websites which are optimized (SEO) for that keyword, our goal is to find a keyword with less than 14,000.

It’s going to be hard work for you (still it is for me), but once you find the winner keyword, we can start working in our site.
