Gateway, the computer giant that markets in cow-print, is more than just a pretty face. Its hefty share of the PC market was won through innovative thinking, up-to-the-minute knowledge of market developments and a business strategy that could stand beside any of Donald Trump’s.

The Gateway notebook, or laptop, is arguably the best category in the Gateway range. The Gateway website distinguishes between two types of notebook: Office and standard office.

As the title suggests, there are differences in capabilities, features, GB size and, of course, in hardware and software packages.

The standard office notebook, though designed for the smaller business, is not to shabby a machine. Standard notebook consumers are offered bespoke packages with choices between varieties of medium to high performance features.

The standard gateway notebook can be purchased, depending on the consumer’s preference, with either Windows 7 Professional or Windows Vista Business. In terms of processing, a choice is offered between an Intel Core i3, i5 or i7, or Centrino 2 Technology with an Intel Core2 Duo.

As size does matter to some, Gateway customers can select at whim a notebook with the following dimensions: 11.6″, 13.3″, 14″, 15.4″ or 15.6″.  

In terms of speed, the standard office notebook comes with 4GB installed, expandable to 8GB if desired.  The office series comes with a selection of hard disk drives, designed to suit businesses requiring space for file expansion, plus an added option for solid state drives.

With Intel or NVIDIAGe Force graphics, the standard gateway notebook offers high performance in terms of graphic and video displays, particularly important for important presentations. High connectivity capabilities include various competencies of Wi-Fi Certified networks and Bluetooth connectivity. The standard office notebook includes reliable data security with various file encryption software packages available.

The office series is vastly higher in spec than the standard office notebook, coming with the option of a SATA hard disk of up to 640GB. For extra security, the office series also comes equipped with a fingerprint reader, so no-one, however versed in advanced computer hackery, can break into those files. To give an idea of just how high performance a notebook in the office series has to be before it’s considered market-ready, consider that it has to pass no less than 14 reliability tests, some of which include: Keyboard-switch life test, Spill test, Weight, pressure, shock and vibration tests, Drop test plus HDD protection test, Temperature and humidity test and Acoustic test.
Quality then, we can safely assume, is taken seriously by Gateway.
