Great laptop for the money. It’s light, the screen is beautiful, and the touchpad and keyboard are decent, plus the touchpad buttons are easy to push. The speakers are junk, though, and battery life isn’t that great. Plays Netflix and Hulu full screen with no problem on laptop screen, and almost perfectly via HDMI (only minor skips). You have to use DVD -R disks rather than +R to make your (3) recovery disks. Add a USB tuner and media center remote, and with the built-in Windows Media Center, this becomes a HD DVR with no monthly fees, Netflix streaming player, Hulu player, and DVD player.

Maybe you have heard from many of the so called experts that keyword research is vital to your success if you ever hope to make any money online. With a complicated algorithm of monthly keyword queries compared against competition for your desired keywords and the number of back links that your competition has you are supposed to decide whether a keyword is profitable or not.

Honestly, you can become paralyzed with analysis and never make any money online or overwhelmed with information on what the right number of monthly searches should be for a good keyword if you buy into the popular information out there. Experts have their own magic numbers for what makes a good keyword and what would eliminate a keyword from their list of what is doable or worth putting in the time and effort to pursue. Even talking about it can make your head hurt!

I will tell you that in the beginning I did very little keyword research and to this day I would rather spend my time doing just about anything else. Yes, I do have a couple of spreadsheets with keyword ideas for a popular niche but honestly I haven’t bothered to look at it in months. I am too busy doing what works for me and what makes sense to me.

I am not knocking those that do all sorts of keyword research and many folks swear by it. Many have even told me that I would find more success and wind up making more money online if I actually did do some keyword research but I would rather take a beating, thank you. I would rather have a root canal done without novacaine.

The simple fact is that keyword research doesn’t have to be painful or time consuming. With a little common sense you can come up with keywords that will get you organic search engine traffic. Ask yourself what you would type into a search engine to find information on the niche that you are hoping to rank for. What words would you type into a search engine to find the main topic of your site or your niche.

While many would argue that proper research would uncover the fact that there is too much competition for a certain keyword I would argue back that there is no such thing. As a matter of fact, those are the exact keywords that you should be going for… full bore ahead. Don’t look back and look at this like a real business. Look at the big picture and move forward with capturing page rank for those profitable keywords that you drool over.

This stuff isn’t just about making money online. This is about building a business with a long term strategy that will be making money for you for years to come. Stop looking at the dollar in front of your nose and see that in the future it is those keywords that others turn away from because… “well, it’s just too hard to beat those sites and I’ll NEVER be able to rank for those keywords” Pfft! If I can do it you can too!

What is a Payment Gateway?

A payment gateway is the equivalent of a point of sale terminal found in retail stores.  It can authorize payments for a myriad of businesses, including online stores and businesses and brick and mortar stores.  It is a service that acts as an intermediary between the shopping cart, the merchant, and the financial institutions.  This will include the buyer’s credit card issuer and the seller’s acquiring bank.  The transfer of information takes place over a secure connection (SSL) and shopping carts are configured to send information in a certain format for a particular gateway.

How Does A Gateway Function?

The payment gateway will transfer information from the payment portal, which can be a website, a mobile phone, or interactive voice response service, to the bank or Front End Processor.  Here is an overview of the process:

1. After entering his credit card number information, the customer will click the “Place Order” or similar button on a website.

2. The information will be securely transported from the website to the merchant’s webserver via SSL encryption.

3. The information is then sent securely to the payment gateway.

4. The payment gateway forwards the information to the payment processor that is used by the merchant’s acquiring bank (the bank where he has a merchant account).

5. The payment processor will send the information to the appropriate card company (Visa, Master Card, etc) and at that point will be routed again to the credit card’s issuing bank.  The processor acts as the issuing bank for Discover Card and American Express.

6.  A response is sent back to the payment gateway as to whether the transaction was declined or accepted

7. The payment gateway forwards the response to the website.  This whole process takes only 2 to 3 seconds.

8. Once all the funds are available, money may be transferred from the merchant account to a business account.

Other Services

Many of the payment gateways will offer tools that can detect fraud which includes verifying the delivery address and geographic location of the buyer.  They may also calculate the taxes before the request for authorization is sent.  Most payment gateways offer an information screen for inputting data.
