What’s The Best Ebook Reader? Kindle or Nook?

Ebook reader’s have become popular products in recent years and Kindle more or less has sewn the market up with the Kindle, however other companies are getting in on the action with the Barnes & Noble Nook and even Apple with the iPad (we are excluding the iPad here as it is not a dedicated eReader).

Now let’s look at the basics:

- Both Kindle and the Nook cost the same.

- Both machines use e-ink technology displays.

- Both have a 2Gb default memory.

- The Kindle is slightly lighter than the Nook and both are a very similar size.

So there’s not much to distinguish these devices so far, however the following may help you decide which is best for you.

Firstly, the Nook allows you to share and lend out your books with other people for up to two weeks (as long as they have a Nook or the app). Furthermore, the software is Google Android which means that the device can use other applications and access to free public domain ebooks. Lastly the device has a color navigation touch screen. There is no International coverage currently for the Nook.

The Kindle 2 on the other hand sports wireless technology for International coverage and text-to-speech features allowing easy connection and the ability for a voice to read the book to you! Some may find the Kindle a little more comfortable as it is 2 ounces lighter. Kindle has push button navigation for content.

Some say that the Nook is a confused device and it is trying to be a device that is more than it is. On the other hand the Kindle knows exactly what it is – strictly an eBook reader.

So what is the best ebook reader? Well that is really down to personal preference depending what features above are important to you. However personally I prefer the Kindle and sales suggest that most other people do too for whatever reason.
