How can I guarantee that my survey will have a representative sample?

How can I guarantee that my survey will have a representative sample?

The importance of having a representative sample for your survey will depend upon the characteristics of your target population.  If you are only targeting one specific demographic group (for example, you want to know how women aged 20-25 feel about a particular product) then the representativeness of your sample is not very important as your demographic parameters are pre-determined.  If, on the other hand, you do not have a specific target population and you want your results to come from a broad cross-section of the community, then having a representative sample is extremely important.

The Exceet survey system is well-designed to help you in either of these two situations.  When you design a survey with Exceet you have the option of launching it to members of the Exceet community.  This community is a rapidly-expanding database of people who have registered with Exceet.com.  This is a new social networking site that offers members rewards for participating in online surveys via it’s exciting and fast paced auction system.  They are also offered rewards for introducing new members to the community, which means that the database is increasing every day.

Members of the Exceet community come from a wide range of backgrounds and demographic groups.  This means that whether you are targeting a specific subset of the population, or you want a good cross-section of opinions, then you will be able to get what you’re looking for with Exceet.  As the Exceet community grows, so too does the representativeness of the people that are available to take your surveys.

One of the major advantages of the Exceet survey system is that you are able to set the demographic parameters that you are looking for in your survey respondents.  Before your survey is launched, you will be asked to specify the type of the people that you want to complete it.  You can limit this according to gender, age range and even geographical location.  Your survey will then be made available to members of the Exceet community who satisfy those demographic requirements.  If you then want to narrow down your group that complete your survey, you can add qualifying questions to your survey.  Only those individuals that pass the qualifying questions will be permitted to complete the survey.

If you do not set demographic requirements then your survey will be open to all members of the diverse Exceet community.  If, when you receive the results, you find that you have more responses from a particularly demographic group than others, then you can simply re-launch the survey with parameters set to exclude that group and this will redress the imbalance.
