Cloud; Pretty obvious, but cannot be ignored. The “>cloud will receive wider adoption this year and no doubt will form part of IT strategies in businesses of all sizes. My prediction is that adoption will be widespread in small and blue-chip sized clients with the mid-market and Public Sector following in 2011/12. The key cloud technologies to look our for will be storage, “>email and private clouds.

The Tablet PC is Back; “>Apple are demo-ing an Apple tablet, or iSlate as it may or may not be called. No doubt that all key hardware manufactures and Microsoft will follow suit. In short, it’ll be the ‘on-trend’ form factor of 2010 as notebook manufacturers reinvent form factors to keep the revenue wheels turning. RIP netbooks.

802.11n; An amendment to it predecessors, 802.11n  improves “>network throughput over previous standards with a significant increase in the maximum raw data rates from 54 Mbit/s to a maximum of 600 Mbit/s.  It adds a host of other technical features…….keep posted to the IQ blog, I’ve seen a great 802.11n article en route and won’t steal it’s thunder.

Software Asset Management; Software publishers will be red-hot on audits this year. In short, when clients elect not to upgrade to shiny new versions and new seats are not being added to agreements, growth can be found through ‘true-ups’ and non-compliance in install bases. Coupled with an increased drive (and success rates) of the Federation Against Software Theft (FAST) and “>Software Asset Management , compliance will be high on the agenda for company owner’s and CIO’s.

Home Working; As organisations look to attract the right talent and decrease costs, home working will continue to grow through 2010. From a CIO perspective this means “>mobility, connectivity and VPN security will be key technology enablers. Interestingly, the recent snowfall has made many organisatiions revisit DR and contingency plans. This will also result in more workers having the right tools for remote working.
