Below is an overview about the software programs mainly used in web designing

Design Sense:
It is expected from web designers that they have the sense of design. Design does not only mean about knowing the color combination, but it also requires the knowledge and sense of the element of design and the basic design fundamentals.

HTML:
HTML is the most important thing in web design. HTML is very easy to learn and it helps to show important, easier and useful work so that your designs will be highlighted. Compared to a very popular WYSIWYG editor, HTML editors are more effective and easy to use. Even those web designers who don’t want to do work outside a WYSIWYG editor should learn HTML. It will help them understand the basis of their Web pages.

CSS:
CSS is mostly used with HTML. CSS is the most important thing for web designer as it gives look and feel of the website. One can learn CSS very easily. CSS determines how the page will look. It would be very difficult to make cutting edge websites without CSS. In fact it is advisable that only use CSS to control look and feel of the page.

JavaScript and Ajax:
JavaScript and Ajax are the first interactive elements of a website. JavaScript is little difficult to understand but you should at least get basic knowledge of JavaScript. Once you learn JavaScript it will then connect or extend to other applications and create Ajax based websites.

PHP, ASP, JAVA, Perl, or C++:
When you start programming of web pages programming languages comes in the picture. PHP is widely used for programming in other words you can say PHP is the leader. Generally web designers do not have much technical knowledge of programming language.

My SQL is the most popular database used today. For web developers it is beneficial to have knowledge of it as it will help them to develop a highly efficient website.

Using Adobe Flash, web developers can create interesting animated objects. Knowledge of Flash is useful to design attractive website. This will help them to enhance design knowledge.

Now days search Engine optimization is critical aspect of web design as it will help your website to get high ranking on search engines. Anyone who is building web sites should know that HTML is closely associated with SEO because HTML will decide the presentation quality of content and graphics.
