Best Music Editing and Production Programs

Best Music Editing and Production Programs

Set up the bars stools, the dim lights and the lava lamps and set up your home studio with style with one of these powerful home studio music editing programs.

Pro Tools

The granddaddy of digital audio workstations, Pro Tools is often the go-to  program for some of the most respected and successful music producers around thanks to its powerful tools, great plugins and easy to use interface. Pro Tools is so powerful and elaborate that it can be a bit scary to just dive in and try to learn it yourself, despite it relatively easy user interface. Some people take semester long classes just learning how to use the program, and often that doesn’t even crack the surface of the abilities the program has to offer. Pro Tools is a great program if you have the time to learn how to use it and the money to buy it.

Garage Band

The popular music recording and editing software that often comes prepackaged with Apple computers, Garage Band is a surprisingly power and expansive piece of software that allows for a lot of creativity. There are a number of prepackaged MIDI sounds and files but it is best to find or create your own if you don’t want to sound like a million other amateur musicians out there. The fast learning curve of Garage Band makes it the ideal software for new music editors or those who want to eventually learn to use Pro Tools but want to dip their feet in the water first.

Adobe Audition

Previously known as Cool Edit Pro, Adobe bought the rights to this music recording and editing software and have added a few tweaks but have left it relatively the same as it was when it was known under the name of Cool Edit Pro. Adobe Audition is a good middle of the road program, slightly more advanced than Garage Band but not as powerful as Pro Tools. There are lots of unique difference with Adobe Audition but the main thing that it comes down to is preference of how you like to edit your music.
