When it comes to finding your ideal client, there is a basic principle that you must remember. Your prospects buy what you sell because they have specific needs or wants. Your job as a business owner is to know, understand and deliver the solutions for those needs and wants, which will differ depending on each specific business. Therefore, it’s critical that you know exactly what your prospect’s needs and wants are. If you distill it down to one significant purpose, it would be to create a match between your buyer and your product or service.

There are two primary categories of information that will assist you with this determination.

The first category is called demographics. This consists of characteristics that identify the ability, need and interest of a client to purchase your product or service. Demographics define those clients who need what you sell.

The second category is called psychographics. These are the factors that identify the motivation or reasons why someone wants to buy your product or service. Psychographics define those clients who want what you sell.

Both of these categories will differ based on the type of client you sell to. Your job as a business owner is to create a match between the buyer and your product or service. Your demographic and psychographic information will enable you to do exactly that. As you identify their wants and needs and compare them with your wants and needs, you will gain greater insight into your ideal client. As you develop and refine your client profile, you’ll wind up spending less time and money to acquire your ideal clients.

To start, you must research your current clients – the ones you presently deal with day in and day out. Select at least three of your current clients to interview. Perform the demographic research by personally interviewing these clients either on the phone, or in person.

B2C: If you sell to consumers, take time out of your business routine to survey them to find the answers to questions like these: Are your current clients mostly men, mostly women, or do they represent a 50/50 mix? Is there a certain age group or range that tends to buy from you? If so, write it down as a range. Are most of your typical clients single or married? Do you know their approximate income level? If not, do you know what zip code they live in? Most zip codes contain homes or apartments that represent specific income ranges.

B2B: If you sell to businesses, interview at least three typical businesses you sell to. Find out the number of employees they have and their location to learn about their company culture and the number of subordinates you may have to speak with in order to get your sales message to the decision-maker. When you sell to other businesses, there’s a mindset to consider that may be different from your own. For example, you may need to position your product or service differently when selling to a New York-based business compared to a California-based business. In some cases, that difference can be day and night.

Look for Patterns:

When you have completed the interviews, compile all of the information to determine commonalities among your current clients. Collecting this information will help you find the traits they have in common, which will help in future marketing. All of this demographic information is designed to create a picture in your mind of your current client. By identifying this client with demographic information, you can use this information later when you begin lead generation and to create a specific marketing message targeted toward your ideal client, so take your time and be as specific as possible when completing these interviews.

Demographics do need to studied and defined for each culture. Gaining insight into the differences in demographics and it consequences on your product’s foreign market is a very enriching experience. Internet Marketing: A Complex Process That Requires Training

This article is a word to the wise, intended for anyone interested in making money online as an affiliate marketer.  Don’t ever underestimate the complexity of the process known as internet marketing.

Web surfers and internet enthusiasts are constantly bombarded with the message that it is easy to earn money online.   This is probably welcome news for those on the receiving end of that message, but let’s take a moment and carefully analyze the message before taking that plunge.

How many times have you encountered online advertisements that promise that if you’ll just join whatever offer they are dangling before you, you can make millions online?  I was always drawn to the one that promises you can turn your computer into a cash machine.  Oh! And how about – fire your boss – that’s a favorite!

There is far more to internet marketing than meets the eye.

These advertisements are frequently filled with absurdities and doubletalk but don’t provide you with a realistic insider perspective of everything you’ll need to do once you accept the offer.  They are designed to dazzle you.  They know how to impress you by making the process sound insultingly easy, deceptively simple, and elementary.  But, don’t be so quick to by into it.  To the contrary, it is anything but.   Those advertisements are deliberately designed to entice want-to-be-internet-millionaires who would literally give their right eye to have a chance to make a lot of money online, given little or no information about the arduous and demanding learning curve required to master the skills needed to actually generate revenue as an online marketer.

Often, those who are new to the internet easily fall prey to these seductive ads — people with little internet experience, and no real understanding of the internet marketing process.

But take it from someone who knows.  Years ago I was one of those want-to-be-internet-millionaires who often fell for the pitch hook, line and sinker, without completely understanding or analyzing the process more closely.  But, in most cases the disappointment emerged only after purchasing the product or investing in an opportunity and gradually realizing I was in over my head.   In many instances, signing on to one program called for another commitment to buy something else or join some other program; and that purchase called for another, and on and on and on.   Ultimately – feeling overwhelmed — I would abandon the whole thing – that is until seduced by yet another new dazzling opportunity.

I had developed a self-destructive and repetitive pattern of falling for these make-money-online opportunities without understanding the process known as internet marketing.   I was doomed to a continuing and never-ending pattern of repeated failures.

After numerous attempts at affiliate marketing on my own, I was introduced to the idea of enrolling in an online marketing training course.

Why hadn’t I thought of this before?  After-all I was educated, intelligent and sharp.

The reason why is because these make money online business opportunities appeal to the emotions, inject a sense of urgency, compel you to buy on the spot, and subtly neglect to tell you that to really succeed you must know how to use a variety of internet marketing strategies and possess a set of skills that in all likelihood, you do not have. They make it sound like taking candy from a baby.   “Hey, pay me now; join my program; kick your feet up, or lay around in your pajamas all day and make millions!”  They seduce you!

For me enrolling in an online marketing training course turned out to be the most profitable decision I had made in a long time.

One of the best arguments in support of that decision is that I had no earthly idea what I was doing! Who can succeed at making money online – no matter how enchanting the opportunity — when you don’t have the skills needed to do the work?   For me, this was quite a revelation.  It is so unfair to have opportunities dangling in your face and invitations to invest in a business opportunity without first understanding that you need to have certain skills related to internet marketing prior to investing in any opportunity.  It’s just not fair.

All marketers need to know the language and terminology of marketing.  They need to know the basics of internet marketing; the many marketing strategies available to them, and how to use them.  They need to understand website development, and search engine optimization. They also need to understand keyword research and the complexities involved in setting up ad campaigns.  And, for me, just trying to learn and master Google Adwords alone has proven to be one of the greatest challenges ever.   It is a never-ending quest.   But the bottom line is that anyone who wants to delve into online marketing needs to understand that it is a beast, and know the nature of this beast!

Enrolling in a bona fide marketing training program was the true beginning of my understanding of internet marketing as a process that requires a set of skills that you can’t just pick up because some overzealous marketer trying to make an instant sale says you can do it that way.

The cure for my pattern of repetitive failures at internet marketing was educating myself.

My online marketing education actually gave me a framework for understanding the process and its many parts.  It also taught me that no one becomes a millionaire by doing nothing.  Internet marketing is a process that, if executed properly can yield great returns.  But, it, too just like anything truly rewarding, requires time, effort, and energy.   The beauty is that once you acquire the skill set, it is a process that can be repeated to infinity, and reward one with the real freedom to make their financial dreams come true.

Before you accept another offer or join another opportunity, invest in yourself and your education by enrolling in a good online marketing training program and master the complexities and components of the process known as internet marketing.   Turn those repetitive failures into an unbelievable success story!

A formula for this is to take the optimized results and divide that by the number of searches. This will give you the R/S value, the lower the number the better the keyword phrase. Select the keyword phrase with the smallest number.


4.) Another great free tool you can find on Google is Google Adwords Keyword tool . You can type in your keyword phrase and it will return the advertiser competition along it’s search volume. You can even see the estimated average cost per click competing advertisers are competing for. If you see advertisers paying big bucks for the cost per click that’s a sign that there is money to be made with that keyword phrase. Use this tool wisely.


5.) Next go to Google and type in your selected keyword phrase and study all 10 of your competition on the front page. Start by looking at each websites PR(Google Page Rank). If your using internet explorer make sure you have Google’s toolbar as on it they have a feature which shows you the Page Rank of any website. If you have competition with PR’s of 7 or above I don’t recommend competing for that keyword phrase as it will be very difficult to beat them for that spot. The lower the PR the better chance you have of taking their position.


Any good marketer can tell you that the most important part of any campaign is doing solid keyword research. Without it you won’t have any results no matter how much time you put into your campaign. Using the simple 5 steps above will allow you to completely dominate your competition on Google and provide you with the foresight to see great success in your campaign by having a solid foundation built underneath you.
