The Myth of Google Ranking Dip
Quite recently, there was mayhem when top ranking websites suddenly lost their rankings, resulting in a considerable dip in traffic. To sum it up, Google SERPS began to display unacceptable websites with broken links, spammy content, and you name it. It’s nothing like what we can accept from Google. Google couldn’t have chosen a better time to bring a bug into their system. Together with the economic meltdown, it was serious concern for webmasters. Well, they admitted that it was a bug in their algorithm that went away unnoticed and causing this huge shift in rankings. However, it’s all sorted now, and things are back to normal. But what is the whole point of this exercise? Some claim that Google have been testing some interesting algorithm updates, and would like to keep them under the wraps. Whatever the truth is, we need to know that there is an interesting concept around this whole exercise. Not all websites did lose rankings. If we take a close look, only the ones that were SE optimized did face penalties. Yes, I would like to call this a temporary penalty; however the reach was by far very immense and extreme that the Engineers at Google had to come up with a Plan B! With PubCon conference just a few days down the road, Google will try to get as much feedback as possible. Now, if anyone asks me “How do I stay away from these penalties?” or “How do I make my website an authentic website?” I wouldn’t honestly have any answer. These are easy questions one could ask, but the answer can be quite complex. Take the case of a government auction website that falls under ecommerce category. Can you make a similar one under a private corporation and still receive enough Google juice to be competing with the parent website? Hmmm… Pretty tough question, right? There is one important aspect that everyone can follow, that will provide them with some success. Have you ever thought that quality traffic and conversions never come for free? What if there were legitimate Search Engine traffic from Google and Yahoo (not by web marketing), if you could pay for it? Yes, it will be pretty awesome, right? The best part is, since you pay for this traffic, you will not be subjected to organic ranking shifts and you can keep getting traffic and customers, even if your website traffic reduces radically from the organic listings. For me, this is the way to move forward. At least, it will help me pay my bills!
