For The Past Week Ive Been Taking Echinacea. I Havnt Been Able To Sleep Lately. Is This Connected?

I tried looking for evidence searching on Google of echinacea affecting sleep but couldn’t really come up with anything. Do herbal supplements sometimes affect sleeping patterns? It takes me forever to get to sleep and i seem to have sooo much energy. I wake up every hour or so. and i don’t feel tired. Does echinacea have caffeine?

If you have a history of inhaled or seasonal allergies (such as hay fever) I would suspect the supplement, Echinacea is a member of the aster/daisy family, and people sometimes have unusual cross reactions to things that are “close to” thiings they are allergic to – for example, its not unusual for people with allergies to ragweed, to have a different reaction to camomile because they are similar enough to trigger a reaction, but not similar enough to trigger the same reaction.
I hope that makes sense, but aggitation is not an unusual allergic reaction – its just that people often fail to recognize it as a reaction.

You are prooving the medicine in material doses. Sleeplessness is a hitherto unknown symptom of Echnacea, which I can add now and in homeopathic potencies it could become cure to insomnia due to high level of energy (i.e. a case of purified blood throbbing with life in you).
Usually Echnacea is used in homeopathic potencies as a “corrector of blood descrasia”, acute auto infection. Cases of blood poisoning, sceptic conditions including deadly poisonous snake bites, Gangrene, Tendency to malignancy acute and sub-acute conditions, exophthalmic goitres, cerebrospinal menengitis, puerperal infections, tired feelings, Last stages of cancer etc. etc. It is thus, seen as a life saving medicine and an excellent blood purifier, and analgesic. The mental symptoms are of highly elated, blissful mood which infact hampers the sleep because the body is adjusting to the newly found pure blood reaching the brain which is abnormal to a normally contaminated oxygenated blood reaching the brain.
Your suspecions are right, the symptoms you are getting is that of Caffein because echnesia had stimulated the functional activity of all organs, increasing the nervous and vascular activity. Sleep: Wakeful on a constant move, Sleepless on account of mental activity, flow of ideas with nervous excitability, desturbed by itching of anus.
You know what you have done? You have just now proved the antidot to the functions of Echnesia and that medicine is COFFEA CRUDA which is nothing but Coffee itself in potentised form. What you need to complete the conclusions beyond doubt is to take one single dose of Coffea 30 in homeopathic potencies and all your sleeplessness and problems will vanish into thin air. You have then antidoted the ill effects of taking the material doses of Echnesia.
It also indicates a major breakthrough Stephanie that how Echnesia works in the body. How it purifies the blood, how it removes the snake poison, how poison can be converted to medicines, all these clues are very much there. The instance you have mentioned denotes that Echnesia works through the caffeine content in the blood either uses it or eliminates it completely to achieve the purification powers. The cravings of caffeine is what might incidently be expressed as symptoms of coffea in the form of sleeplessness and availability of caffein energy in the form of potentised coffea instantly antidots the echnesia. Isn’t that something to reckon with? I think so.
I hope this helps. with best wishes.

Yes, it is – you’ve reached the toxic level! Keep on taking that garbage and you’ll do further permanent damage to your system.

Yes, herbal supplements can sometimes affect sleep patterns.
    Echinacea does not contain caffeine.

I have been searching for a decent remedy to help me get to sleep too. Melatonin has bad side effects. I read about Calms Forte 4 Kids. That link goes to a review. You think its as good as they say?
