Solar Contractors – How To Find A Reliable Solar Power Installer
It’s not difficult to see the appeal of using solar power to meet our domestic energy needs: it utilizes a natural energy source (the sun) and thereby avoids any environmental damage that can result from the energy being generated via traditional means. The use of solar power for the home has become increasingly prevalent in recent years and particularly in dry landscapes that have an abundance of sunshine such as Australia or the state of California. For the majority of home owners however, installing a solar heating system without professional assistance is not a viable option. There are a number of things to consider such as adequate cable size, correct fusing (every circuit should be protected by a fuse or circuit breaker), the positioning of batteries and the correct positioning of the solar panels. Attempting to do all this by yourself and not getting it exactly right will result in a less than optimum performance of your solar power system. As such, it is prudent to call on the assistance of a solar power installer or solar contractor.
The question that then arises is: “How do I go about finding a reliable solar power installer?” There is help at hand depending on where you happen to be located. The California Energy Commission maintains a list of registered installers on its Web site. California’s solar rebates are available only to homeowners who use installers registered with the state, and all those contractors listed on the commission’s Web site will qualify. You could also check the membership roster of the California Solar Energy Industries Association, the trade organization representing solar power installers. Similarly, homeowners in Oregon wishing to receive Energy Trust’s incentives must have their system installed by an Energy Trust approved contractor. The Oregon Department of Energy maintains a list of tax credit-certified solar technicians. Many state-certified solar technicians are also Energy Trust trade ally contractors.
In Australia, in order to qualify for the solar power rebate, the person who carries out the installation of the solar panels must be accredited for design and installation of photovoltaic systems by the Business Council for Sustainable Energy (BCSE). A list of BCSE accredited designers and installers is available from the Clean Energy Council – or alternately you could contact a designer/installer and ask for proof of their accreditation.
As is always the case when dealing with any type of contractor, personal attention and responsiveness are important. If you find that one solar contractor seems to be able to communicate more clearly and is more responsive than others, you will probably want to take this into consideration when making your choice. Ultimately you want to be able to deal with a contractor that can design a system for your home, sell you the solar modules and install them. To do this you will need to find a contractor that has a good track record and a load of good references. The longevity of their business is also important as you’d want to be able to go back to the same installer in the future, should you experience any problems.

Solar Power Technologies on Hold
Two solar power technologies exist, the passive and the active technology. The passive technology are the photocell panels or the photovoltaic film that receives sunlight and generates electricity more apt for a space station or a home. The active technology is a solar thermal that uses a dish to concentrate sunlight that produces steam, which in turn powers a turbine that generates electricity. Another active technology, which is not being promoted, hidden form public view, is using the Stirling Engine to move a power generator.
The passive technology is ready to go, and there are a few homes that have already installed the system. This system is totally clean, backed by the USDOE Solar American Initiative, it requires sufficient space on the roof to position the panels or film, and uses an inverter to turn direct current into alternate current homes can use. The Utility companies have also developed the Net Metering system to buy electricity on their terms, from homes that have generate a surplus of electricity. The new federal tax law “Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008″ effective January 2009 provides a 30% tax credit of the cost of a solar system. Some States are also providing large incentives to install solar systems, although with the current economic crisis these paybacks can be curtailed or delayed. The rest of the payback has to come from real savings generated over time by the system from the Utility company. This passive solar system is expensive as of today, and payback is obtained in 8 years of savings. Photovoltaic film or photocell panels are low efficiency and voltage, and compare badly with the option of buying electricity from the utility company. Currently you require from 13 to 15 photocell panels to generate the 2.5 to 3.0 Kilowatt hours generating capacity.
Walmart has established a pilot plan to install photovoltaic panels in several of their stores. If the system produces a return, they will massively implement it in all their stores, since they have sufficient roof space currently not utilized.
The Solar-thermal system is not adequate for homes and mainly will be used for large Utility companies. However, the active system based on a Stirling engine to power a generator which could be applicable for homes, is not available for massive distribution. Although all of its components have been developed, no one has yet integrated the solar power generating kit, or a home appliance. This home system or appliance should be very low cost because it requires: a solar collector or dish which could cost around $200 USD, a stiriling engine with a cost of $350, the 3 KW per hour power generator with a cost of $350, and the battery bank which is the expensive ticket item and could run several thousand dollars, to store electricity if the system is a stand alone not tied to the power grid. If the home is currently supplied by a utility company, then the battery bank is not needed and the Net Metering system with the public utility company can be used. In addition to the sun collector dish the rest of the system can be packaged in two boxes. One which has the stiriling engine and power generator, and the other with the battery if you are a location not tied to the grid. It can also have a gas heater installation as a backup to when there is a lack of sunlight making this a very reliable alternative.
Apparently, there are companies in America, New Zealand, India, Sweden, and other countries trying to develop the stiriling engine . A few companies are receiving funding from investment funds to develop the stiriling engine for this home appliance. Infinia Corporation, a US company has a head start, because they are currently producing a big sterling engine to power up 10 homes at a time and installing many of them in a centralized solar farm in California. Other companies should not be discouraged because markets are so huge, there will be enough room for all suppliers. Just in United States alone there is a potential of 124 million homes that could use the solar power appliance, plus commercial and industrial sites.
Having the home powering appliance, can be the initial steps for returning to sustainable systems. Today, the sun is light and warmth, provided to us from God and Nature, free for all of us to use and enjoy. A home solar powered generator would provide clean energy, and allow equal footing to all nations rich and poor, to devote their funding into other worthwhile social services such as health and education. Rich nations which have electrical grids and power generation capacity would suddenly feel there would be no need to continue increasing Power generation capacities and hopefully they would discontinue all those plants that contaminate. Original Website Marketing Starts With a Swipe File
The first time I heard about swipe files I was shocked. I thought we would write copy. Swiping? Aren’t we supposed to be original?
But I’ve since learned that swipe files often help create some of the most original websites around the Internet.
A swipe file is a collection of examples of great copywriting. You might have a physical paper file or a list of bookmarks in your Internet browser.
A swipe file is not a license to plagiarize. You cannot copy someone else’s keywords or results (“earned $30K in one month”) unless they apply equally to you.
In fact, typically your best “swipes” come from copy targeted at a market that is totally different from your own, for products you would never dare to use. a If you do any writing — web content, books, sales letters– you can use swipe files 3 ways.
(1) Get ideas for headlines and bullets.
Remember the old line about “They laughed when I sat down at the piano…” You cannot swipe the line if you are selling piano lessons, like the original ad.
But let’s say you are selling fitness coaching or legitimate arthritis remedies targeted to people over 50. You might come up with a headline, “They laughed when I said, ‘I’ll walk up three flights of stairs. And then I scampered up like a teenager.’”
(2) Add spice to your style.
Nearly all copywriting masters advise their students, “Take a famous ad and copy it out, word for word.” Some say, “Don’t use a computer: write by hand.”
Of course you’ll never use the exact words you’re copying in your own work product. But you begin to appreciate how the words go together and you become unconsciously influenced by what you read.
Sometimes, when I’m getting ready to write, I’ll find samples from an over-the-top edgy copywriter. I’ll write a few paragraphs, daring to be outrageous.
Then I go back to my own copy, in my own style. The result? Just enough edge to be interesting, not enough to overpower my own writing.
(3) Get inspired.
Every so often you’re trying to write some copy…and you keep staring at a blank page. Now is a good time to read through the swipe file.
For example: Find a set of bullets in a successful ad. Now rewrite those bullets with your own product, target and benefits.
Here are 2 imaginary examples for a weight loss product:
“How to lose 20 pounds without feeling hungry,” and, “The one kind of chocolate that actually helps you lose wweight”
Now let’s say you are selling a time management product. You would modify these bullets:
“How to add 2 extra hours to your day without feeling pressured,” or, “The one kind of clock that actually helps you meet deadlines.”
Keep going with all the bullets you see, adapting them to your product or service. By the time you reach 6, you’re probably filled with inspiration.
And don’t be surprised if your copy looks nothing like the file you swiped from.

Solar Power for Airplanes
In recent years, talk of green alternatives for cars has been heard immensely. But what about other vehicles and modes of transportation? The solar powered car has been studied and produced but now there is also some talk of a solar powered airplane. Gasoline use is incredibly high and that doesn’t look like it will be stopping any time soon. Finding an alternative is high on many people’s priority lists. Solar power is something that seems promising though it does have its disadvantages.
Solar powered planes have been under study for quite some time now. A concept model has been produced called the Solar Impulse. For a solar powered plane it is quite impressive but it is lacking in certain areas. Something this huge cannot be perfected all at once so it may take some time before the Solar Impulse is arriving at an airport near you. The concept model is very expensive, costing an outstanding $94 million dollars to produce. At that price, it’s unlikely that airlines will be looking into making a switch in the near future.
This concept model was designed so that only one pilot can fit in the cockpit at a time. That may be seen as a disadvantage when it comes to health and safety. If something were to happen to the pilot, he would not have assistance. The airplane is made out of carbon fibre which is a durable material that is also quite flexible. The plane is designed to draw power from the sun during the day, storing it in the battery so that the plane is operable at night as well. Of course like any solar powered machine, an overcast day could cause complications that need to be addressed to get beyond the concept model stage.
The solar powered airplane does have its drawbacks. It can only fly for an average of eight hours at a time before it will need to be recharged. With hundreds of people thousands of feet in the air, that could pose a serious problem. The plane can average 127,000 feet which is more than adequate. However, there are clearly some features that need to be perfected before these planes are made available to the public.
It may or may not come as a surprise to some that the solar powered airplane is something that NASA has been studying for many years now. The use of solar power seems to be one of those things that everyone is striving to harness. There is no question that it is something worth making use of. However, there is plenty of work to be done still before it is something we will see in our daily lives. There are simply too many safety issues to be dealt with. Solar power is promising but it is not yet ready to take the place of gasoline powered airplanes or automobiles. More time invested in this option may bring it to that point. Given enough time and expertise, the solar powered airplane certainly could be the way of the future.
